5.0 out of 5 stars Wide-ranging, years-long, modern World War III saga, December 24, 2004
I have read and reviewed each of the individual novels and then discovered that there is this hardback that contains all five.

I am honestly excited to find this out and will add the hardback to my library because the five novels it represents were so very good!

This is, simply stated, the best overall, modern World War III story on the market today.

Naval battles and strategy, Air Force, Amry, Marines, Amphibious assault, espionage, terror, weapons of mass destruction, geo-political intrigue, high tech weaponry, research and development, space warfare, asymetrical warfare...this novel has it all with a wide cast of real-life characters...many of whom die (including some of the most major characters) along the way...whose every day lives are impacted in compelling ways by the overall war story.

Highly recommended with five stars. I hope some day Mr. Head and this series are picked up by a major publication house as the entire thing is apparently self-published. This series deserves major publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grand slam ending...chalk one up for the good guys, December 24, 2004
Mr. Head brings his tremendous saga to a close with this book.

Even as they go down to defeat, the enemy pulls some very horrific rabbits out of their hat that leave you wondering as you are reading about them, whether or not the west will, in fact, be able to bring the conflict to a successful conclusion after all.

As the story progresses, I especially liked reading about how the characters, many of whom (on both sides) you feel you have come to almost know personally, fare and react as the novel moves into its wind up scene.

I also like Mr. Head's no-holds barred attitude about using the series to deliver timely and adept messages regarding our "real" society and drawing attention to some of the pitfalls of current geo-political, military, moral, and other societal trends. At many stages of the entire series, you find yourself saying, "Now wait just a minute, didn't that type of thing just happen in real life?"

A very encouraging and faith promoting read, and very exciting and enthralling. I have read and reviewed each of the novels and can honestly recommend them to anyone interested in a great, modern Word War III techno-thriller of epic proportions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Free peoples of the world on the comeback trail, December 24, 2004
Mr. Head continues his epic saga with a description of how the West, after finally gaining the upper hand in the years long world-wide struggle, begins to push the enemy alliances back across the globe. New technologies are developed, the war goes into near earth space in a major way, and the enemy continues to react and respond with developments of their own.

It is a hard, long push, filled with set-backs, but representing a tenacious, prolonged effort by the free peoples of the United States and Canada, the United Kingdom and free Europe, Austrealians in excile who begin to reclaim major prortions of the continent nation, and the freedom loving peoples of South America and Africa struggling against their own enemies who have allied themselves with the Greater Islamic Republic (Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Iraq) and the Coalition of Asian States (Red China, N. Korea, India).

This was another really compelling, exciting and great read, and I recommend most heartily this series to everyone. I rated Volume IV a little lower than Volumes I-III. Mainly because Volume III was SO good, and SO compelling, that I felt I had to take a little something off just in comparison.

5.0 out of 5 stars World War III against the West turns around, December 24, 2004
This novel, the third in Jeff Head's series, was the most compelling regarding the overall weaving of moral principle into the horror of war and the absolute determination of the west to prevail and overcome the awful disadvantages and surprizes that the Greater Islamic Republic and the Coalition of Asian States throw at freedom loving peoiple.

While Alaska is being invaded and the north slope oil fields taken from the United States, while Russia is being invaded from the east by hordes of Chinese, Islamic and INdian forces, and after all of the Middle East has fallen and the last vestage of freedom is whooly surrounded in what is left of Israel...Mr. Head weaves a very interesting and compelling foundational moral plot line into the background of the overall war story. That plot line ultimately has the most astounding impact on the overall plot.

In the end, three decisive battles cap off this novel and end up, along with that moral underpinning, turning the tides of war.

I would recommend this series to anyone.

The characterization is very well done, their is great attention to technical detail in the battle descriptions all around the world, and the exciting and compelling nature of the whole story just grabs you and just will not let go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epci tale of modern Naval Warfare, December 10, 2004
This story is the epitome of what modern naval warfare is all about. Tillman does a fantastic job of describing not only the vessels, technology and hardware, but also of introducing strong, believable characters.

The battle scenes are riveting...and there are a lot of them...which I really enjoyed.

The story line remains plausible even today, 13 years later, though it is dated and though the Russian Navy has lost most of the assests described herein.

The only books that come close to this in later years are Jeff Head's, Dragon's Fury Series, which pit a modernized and rapidly expanded PLAN and its allies, with some significant technological break throughs, against the US Navy in a seven year long World War III fought out on all five populated continents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting World War III Techno-thriller, December 10, 2004
After finishing book one, I was excited to read the second in this series. I was not disappointed.

The United States and her allies continue to be pushed back by the combined weight of the Sino-Indian-Islamic axis, where the Chinese developed supercavitating super weapons to negate the US Navy. Unbridled immigration brought in tens of thousands of terrorists who attack the US from within while the war rages in foreign lands.

New alliances form in South America as a move by the Chinese against the International Space Station has surprizing and horrific results.

The entire series leaves you wanting more and I am really excited to get into book three.
