5.0 out of 5 stars slamming funk, October 1, 2014
This review is from: Bustin' Out (Vinyl)
the stomping funk on the one. love that killer intro and how it just slays the mind with the groove. Rick James owned that 80's funk.i still bump this cut and one of the baddest things about this cut is that according to Rick James it was inspired by Peter Tosh and that is a great compliment. the arrangements and groove still kick

5.0 out of 5 stars Barry White was badd!, September 30, 2014
This review is from: 5 Classic Albums (Audio CD)
one of the baddest to ever do it musically. these five albums are still rock solid and Barry white never got his full due for his greatness and overall depth and creatiivty. Produciton and those strong arrangements and how he could make the butter roll off te bread with the smooth flavor and flow of his music vocabulary and his tendency of texture and how he used various parts and extended the groove with counter rhythms and parts that had a mind all of their own. these albums are tight and of course he had many monster hits which took a life all of their own. Barry white was so important to my ears that til this day whenever i eat pasta i gotta have string noddles in honor of the strings that him and gene page had on those classic albums. barry white and strings were a match made.his voice was soulful and he told it like it is. back in the day he always had the goods.strong harmony, groove and a hybrid of groove which just made you feel good.

5.0 out of 5 stars one bumping cut, September 30, 2014
still slammin. rick james always kept the grooves for the MJG. they really had a cool vibe when they were singing and the grooves were catchy and right on time; this song dropped back in 85 and it is still a cool cut come summer time. the chorus and the groove is on point. real catchy and fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars MJ dropped a turning point cut right here, September 30, 2014
the king of music and to whomever it may concearn Michael Jackson got the dancing and the music from James Brown. ask Berry Gordy about that.this cut right here had the stank and it grooved and it still bangs. this is one of the greatest songs ever way up there and its a pimping cut. MJ had a twisted sense of humor. got pregnant on the floor and in the round? even Snoop Dogg or Too short,2Pac,Biggie,etc... ain't dropped something so gangster and yet so twisted and cleaver all at once.MJ did it up. Song and Music man period.

1.0 out of 5 stars lenny creole and the becky no'sno's, September 30, 2014
This review is from: PLECTRUMELECTRUM (Audio CD)
senile over blown indulgence has set in. while Prince is a better musician than lenny kravitz, prince can't pull off what lenny does. and that is sad to say. but this mess is cutting room floor and forgettable. prince use to have that hybrid thing were his music was like a gumbo, not like now where he trying to appeal to the tacist notion of splitting your music to formats. folks old enough to remember knew that "bambi" got played on R&B radio as purple rain, raspberry beret, take me with u got played on various radio. so why split it up? also Kid Creole and the coconuts did this whole thing better in the 80's peep put "table manners" and hear where Prince got alot of ideas off from? same with the Go's Go's those chicks could play.this band he got is wack to me and a step down. ain't none of these chicks that Prince is playing with on that wack album seeing no lisa Coleman and Shelia E.prince needs to give Lenny Kravtiz some money and beg to have Cindy Blackmon-Santana for some sessions because the drumming on this album is lacking. this at best should have been a bonus ep at best. but nobody is gonna remember this loud and boring album. warn a Brother, i mean warner brothers records will do whatever to get that purple rain bonus stuff out, even if it means allowing Prince to drop this lame off as finished product. prince did better rock vibe projects dez dickerson and andre cymone and then later with sonny thompson and michael bland. this ain't worthy

This review is from: ART OFFICIAL AGE (Audio CD)
well he has been constantly off for twenty five years. he been trying to recapture what use to come so naturally for him. this cat been on more comebacks as almost as Police academy. problem is he can't sing that well anymore, poor songwriting and he often sounds like a third tier version of himself.every once in a while a second tier, but never seeing his prime and peak of 82-87.he still is a legit live act, however he needs to retire from the studio. he is in his "living in america" phase doing corny left over muzak. the album cover is suppose to be a play on his 45 cover of "when doves cry" and lets get somethng straight he ain't no where near that level of a track. his songwriting and vibe is on some Cornell West meets willona woods tip and it is so lifeless. he needs a R.Kelly or a Bruno Mars to help him write a modern day memorable song because these joints are cornball. this album is ok,however it sounds like some 2nd to 3rd tier outtakes and he just added some modern touches up on to put out.however he ain't made a legit album since 87. he ain't no dummy he knows everybody wants those old school remastered with outtakes, not this cornball mess.all the slow cuts sound the same and he just seems lifeless with what he is putting out.truth is somebody kidnapped Prince or a alien or a ufo took his musical thing way back when. because that turkey just lost what use to come naturally for him. what is the use of having talent and a vibe and just putting out some much tired corn ball muzak?

3.0 out of 5 stars cool album, September 28, 2014
This review is from: JHUD (Audio CD)
cool record from J hud as she is channeling the early 80's. on the Cherryl Lynn tip and it works. though she doesn't quite have what i call a money track or a signature cut that takes her next level. its your world with R.Kelly is the cut and it is screaming for a house remix which would be slamming. the album has a throwback vibe which works in places. this album is a step in the right direction for.

2.0 out of 5 stars just ok, September 25, 2014
This review is from: Partners (Audio CD)
it was hit and miss in places. the best duet was with Stevie wonder and it worked. the rest are met with mixed results at best. good arrangements and production. the duet with John Legend was comedy. i mean Barry Gibb and her were on point. her and John Legend make a good early nap and you might not wake up anytime soon and that is the problem with the bulk of this set. this could have been way better. it feels like product placement and it never takes off. wasted chance with Lionel Richie as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars a Great Poser, September 24, 2014

lenny still being lenny after all of this time in the game. if there was a hall of fame for posing and playing that part of a rock and roll star to the hilt then Lenny Kravitz would be way up that food chain. problem is listening to him putting out tracks that sound like 2nd and 3rd tier rate late 70's/early 80's stable tracks of pop. he has never been good at hiding his influences and they are on display in full effect again. this album is just re hash of what he has already done and nothing really stood out.but then again he is doing what he has always done and he found a lane and knew his lane.
