4.0 out of 5 stars good book, October 30, 2014
This review is from: De Niro: A Life (Hardcover)
very good book and lets be real until recently Robert Deniro was never that big time talker or this or that. for a while he truly had this aura and vibe and it help him craft some of the greatest films and roles ever, this book explores a particular time period and what it lead to his depth and importance to film. its a cool read on him, though you never get the full scope.

2.0 out of 5 stars swift formula, October 29, 2014
This review is from: 1989 (Audio CD)
i give taylor swift props for a commerical ear and i tell you she is gonna last. she ain't going nowhere, now does that mean she will ever challenge herself and actually not ride within a certain vibe? who knows. somewhere between Olivia Newton John, Deborah Harry, Madonna and a few other acts is where you find Taylor Swift with a obvious nod to country cross over acts over the past twenty years. problem is this album stays on a formula. so this album is the paint by the numbers and yet she is in a groove with her audience and because she writes and keeps a theme going it is working. she is able to dabble into different things and yet its basically juice newton who had one big hit, however swift has learned the game despite playing with one deck

5.0 out of 5 stars a strong and important film then and now, October 26, 2014
This review is from: Conrack (Blu-ray)
the kind of movie that needs to be shown and taught in this day and age. the kind of film where education and the mind is challenged and not the garbage that the media and Hollywood pimp and push across as a way and avenue. there was a time when films were made to educate and show how racist and one sided things were and how they impact a future of the unknown.films don't come out of the woodwork these days and they are missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars very good book, October 23, 2014
very good book and read on a musician who has done it all through styles and changes in a unforgiven industry. what he has done musically is still incredible. i often think of musicians the same as i do of athletes and to me Herbie Hancock has always been the Kareem Abdul Jabbar of Music. in that he was always a Winner in whatever he elected to do and he had no limits when it came to his musical visions. this book talks about his life and the depth of knowledge and feelings on different subjects over time.how many artists can go from playing Miles Davis, do the Funky Headunters and then drop Rockit and come around and do standards.? you always know his tone and style.

5.0 out of 5 stars nothing but the funk, October 23, 2014
one of the mountrushmore's of funk music period. band leader, concept, songwriter, producer, arranger, just all around funkateer and one of the most profound and deepest thinkers on the planet and one of those guys that has had a Forrest Gump life experience when you consider the music that was happening when he entered the industry to where it is now. and this cat inspired, influenced and left a lasting mark over so many eras and styles of music. you get the highs, lows and in betweens and George always shot from the hip with what he felt and what was on his mind.the material he created with Bootsy, Bernie,Eddie,etc.. is timeless. he was operating with various projects on so many different labels and alter egos, etc.. he Brought Chocolate City out and he made you notice. this cat as a Bandleader was the Count Basie of the Funk. there are other bands i dug more for Songwriting, production, arrangements and other aspects of the music, however for my money and ears George CLinton had the best Oiled Band in the business in that those Cats could flat out bust that Booty on instrumentation and playing on feel. he was ahead of the curve. where would Rap Music be without his music? and i can only say that about 5 or 6 other acts in terms of impact on Rap Music and all those acts were funky.

2.0 out of 5 stars a phone in album, October 21, 2014
the clive davis project and its very bland and off. Aretha Franklin sounds decent though she doesn't sound motivated and hungry. the material here just feels like decent background music at your local starbucks. a few cuts are alright, however on a whole i would rather hear some original material. nothing memorable here. i could never have seen Aretha doing this kind of album back in the day. she is better than this project.

GOTCHA THEME FROM STARSKY & HUTCH (PROMO) (45/7")

5.0 out of 5 stars one slamming tv theme song, October 18, 2014
one bumping cut. i always dug the intensity and groove of this cut. back in the day in the old backyard i use to have a starsky and hutch car and this theme made it even more so cool. on the musical tip, that arangement screams big city late night with the sun roof wide open and the guitar and brass are hitting you from the sides. always dug the vamp and build up of this groove.
