4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Game With Plenty to Do, March 17, 2012
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rift - PC (Video Game)
So I played the beta version of this game and checked out its various mechanics before it launched. What I noticed then is that this game had a lot of potential and a fairly smooth launch.

As with any MMO you can wait a year and come back and find the game has changed around more to your liking. MMO's are in a constantly shifting development state. As such, you are basically paying for a game that developers are not intending to just leave behind and maybe pump out some addon packs for every few months that only apply to multiplayer aspects of it.
So after a year I came back and checker out the changes, getting myself up to level 46 so far.

The Rifts have been knocked down in intensity in many of the zones pre-level 40. You will now experience content that is more solo friendly throughout the game as you level. While you do this there will very likely also be a World Event occurring. What I found out is that these special events also reward a currency that allows you to buy gear to help you level, and also some fluff fun items like pets if you want. I include both of these together in this paragraph because they are very much apart of what Rift is all about (World Events, and Rifts). These zone events bring groups together to share loot, experience, and all around help you to meet others and have a good time. There are also smaller events which occur like footholds where you have to fight off an enemy incursion into your area. In addition there are Zone Events which will give everyone in the zone a quest to help defeat major enemies in a progressive manner. What I mean is that you will be told to help defeat invaders, close Rifts, and eventually take on a boss and get some decent experience and loot as well.

PvP instances (multiplayer locations in Rift where players battle each other) do allow for some fairly fast groups to be put together and also reward decent experience. There are quite a few in the game and more and more of them will unlock as you progress in level.

The questing itself does indeed leave something to be desired, but the plus is that there are other things you can do while doing quests. Now this is an RPG also, and what this means is that it is a bit grindy on the leveling side of things. As you level you will need more and more experience in order to progress to the next level. When you do this you will get talents which help you improve on your characters abilities in the game. There are group quests in this game, and also elites that do run around in the world, so you have to be careful when running around. Eventually when you hit level 45 you will be able to do Instant Adventures which allow you to instantly group up with players and help take down various quest objectives in each factions high level zone's. These can reward excellent experience and loot and will also get you from 45 to 50 rather quickly, but this does depend on the size of your group.

This brings me to the Soul System! This, along with the Rifts and World Events, are what help Rift stand out among the crowd quite well. You can essentially build a character that suits YOUR needs while leveling. It might or might not be viable to keep your own custom 'build' (which means how you choose to customize your characters Soul Tree's), but Rift also allows you to have several Roles for each character that you create. Each of these roles will let you switch between many different Soul Tree's that you have created to help you take on content in the game. It is a great customization option that Trion World's (The Publisher and Creators of Rift) has created and they continue to refine it as time goes on.

All in all, there are some negative aspects however. I don't want to sound all happy doo dah here. While Trion World's has created a Dungeon Finder to help you find a group to take on more difficult content, it does also tend to take awhile to find a group. When you die you will often find you have to spend about a minute or two getting back to your characters corpse to resurrect yourself. Each time you die you loose Soul Vitality and this will cost you in game currency to repair. It can be rather annoying later on in the game when objectives become more challenging. And lastly, just the sheer amount of time you need to spend to level to 50 to experience everything Rift offers kind of stinks. While Rift does offer plenty to do while leveling, it doesn't compare to the level 50 content that the Developers create. The End Game is where the game really starts and the developers have said as much.

Hope that helps. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely sucks up moisture!, October 25, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Just wanted to say that I bought this to get rid of a musty smell in my room, and to also fight any mildew buildup in the carpet. I have crazy sensitive allergies, and carpets usually bug me.

This got rid of the musty smell for me, and it also has sucked up a decent amount of moisture in over two weeks. It took about a week or so to start dripping, but after that it definitely kept accumulating. Depending on how moist an area is, this might not last the full 60 days. As soon as this fills to the line on the bottom collection unit it will need to be emptied, and the packets will need to be replaced.

The 10.5 oz packets are a bit big, but it isn't impossible to squeeze two of them into the top compartment. Do not open the dampRid bags, just remove them from the plastic wrap and place them into the top of the unit side by side. It isn't unusual for them to take up to 30 days to start to drip, but if the area is really humid it could be much sooner than the week it took mine.

Their website also has a helpful FAQ section. If a musty smell isn't going away you may need to add another unit every few days(think it was a few) until it does. Just saying this cause some have said it didn't help in their basement.

2.0 out of 5 stars The Magic is Dead, June 18, 2011
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
You know, I used to love playing this game! I started playing two years ago in 2009, and wow I had waaaay too much fun! I played for ridiculous amounts of time, and there was always something to do.

When I heard that Cataclysm was going to remake the old content in this game I was so excited I couldn't contain myself. I managed to get a sneak peek at this game and do some testing in closed beta on it.

By the time the game came out I was so infuriated about everything that had changed with the game. I mean I really thought that Blizzard knew how to make games that were so good they were even addictive. What I found out was that they either lost their touch, or the talented bunch that made WoW aren't working on it any longer.

With changes like locked in talent trees up until level 71, talent points every two levels, simplified/homogenized classes, linear questing, and guild perks, and making the end game very hardcore tuned...things don't feel right.

In fact the entire game feels like its replayability has been gutted in the extreme for a faster leveling process. Sadly, I don't think Blizzard is able to keep up with its customers as it has a hard time pushing out content fast enough even with its new release method.

To me, this game has destroyed what I enjoyed about it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad if you just want to play a game, November 26, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Compared to other cards this month the GT 220 is actually not the best in the litter. The Nvidia 240GT DDR5 card offers a considerable advantage over this card, and it is around the same price range. I mean your talking 50+ GB/s compared to this cards 22.5 GB/s tops. On top of that the Stream Processors are double that of this card at 96.

However if you really don't mind spending around $80 regardless of a rebate I would direct you to spend your hard earned cash on an ATI 5670, as it can operate on a 300W power supply and others much bang for your buck. It has 4 times the Stream processors at around 200, and is hella fast.

The GT 220 DDR3 1 GB seems to still perform okay, but it isn't a great card if you like to game hardcore. The FPS with this card on high resolution in a game like Crysis is seriously lacking, and I mean around 10 to 15 FPS if I recall right according to one test I read online. Don't plan on running your favorite games on the highest resolution at max settings and expect great performance, unless its an older game or not resource intensive.

Those ATI cards in the 5 series are also DX 11 supportive, whereas this beast isn't. You will have more Stream Processors, more GB/s, and just more power overall with the affordable 5670 card. I am tempted to send in this card and return it to get a refund so I can get a card with more power.

Happy Gaming.

2.0 out of 5 stars The battery that lasts as long as it wants to, November 10, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
You know when I first read that this battery was supposed to last ungodly amounts of time on standby I just couldn't believe it. I thought to myself this is awesome, and then I bought the phone and left it on standby.

Yeah, not really so ungodly anymore. The advertised standby time that the phone advertised was wrong, and this batter seems to run out of juice on standby much faster then I thought it would.

All I know is that I don't even want to bother posting the numbers here in comparison because that woudl be giving this battery more time then it seems to be giving me.

I hereby dub thee a bad bad battery!

I really laugh when I hear people say that 24 is the best or Alias was incredible. I got hooked on these shows after renting them at the local library. They truly beat the socks off of 24 or Alias or any other lame stupid ready bake tv show these days. Heck I could be a writer with some of the crud that comes out these days.
This show should be remade, rebroadcast on some network, heck it should get a new show entirely based on it for all i care. IF they stuck to this same format that kept you on edge, always guessing, and with the same great acting then what is there to miss?
To see a modernized version of this show today with new tech and perhaps a new agency called something different would get my attention! Don't know if they could get Peta Wilson to act her role overseing center, but there is still much to be discovered. There is also definately a market for this kind of show to be reborn.
If only...

5.0 out of 5 stars Its Just what i wanted!, June 29, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Nothing much can let a guy down like me when I get a game in which I get to be a ghostbuster. The effects in the game are great! The skin textures, hair, and clothes all done very well! And the best part is that the proton packs are just like the movie with more new weapons to boot.
Granted it can be a pain to catch a ghost, but heck its part of the challenge.
This game is ghostbusters meets Doom 3. In fact I think this game does better then Doom 3 or most games when it comes to the gaming graphics.
The fact that it's recommended to have 4gb memory, intel Core 2duo or better and 512 mb of video memory tells me that this game and others are moving up to the next level of gaming.
The storyline also kept me interested, I kept playing this for hours on end on my i can imagine those who have this on 360 might get hooked, especially in multiplayer mode.
Very enjoyable game!

2.0 out of 5 stars A very brief overview of different social sciences, February 19, 2009
I would have to say after reading several different books on psychology, sociology, and others, that this bored me to tears. Unless you have never read anything about psychology or other social sciences and are completely new to this subject i would say that it offers nothing new. Just seems to be a lot of the same things i have read in other books.
There has to be another book out there that does a way better job of explaining social sciences and tries to get the student interested with lots of great information....this just wasn't it for me, i painfully read through the chapters for a class i was taking.

I bought these new, played them with DTS sound on and loved em'. Blade 2+3 each have a bonus disc, and all of them come in widescreen format which i think is better cause you see more of what's going on. Has a pretty kewl box case that they all come in also.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great collection of all Scream movies., January 28, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Scream Trilogy - Boxed Set (DVD)
Instead of just getting the three movies you get a bonus disc with extra content. If you have an upconverter and upconvert these to a big flat screen that has 1080p resolution and put this on surround sound it makes for an even better experience. The only down side i think is that they didn't come with DTS capabilities which significantly improve the sound of the movies. Another upside is that they are in widescreen format, Widescreen of course is better since you see more of the movie as well.
All in all if you can't afford a blu-ray player and these movies in blu-ray they are still pretty good for the money.
