It can't be read. Look at the "look inside" sample and scroll down. You'll see it's full of scanning errors.

This is not a repoduction of the original, but a printed version of the scanned text, full of errors. Here is a sample quotation from page 91. It was in Italian once, but it isn't now!

"n ninw di. Vale omatn ill magnifca Archlmtura, tfuai. ilimtn dtspostt m ., conjueun I iiry piuni, e. tpecialmle ad una Rottilu cie jcriv fier rappresentanze L-niml,"

Its better to shell out the money for the real book than to waste it on this travesty. The publisher, General Books, is probably best avoided altogether.

This is just an odd volume, not even one complete work, and it is too corrupt to be readable.

The Diary of Samuel Pepys
The Diary of Samuel Pepys

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as advertised, August 12, 2009
The posted reviews giving this a high rating are NOT OF THIS KINDLE EDITION, but are of the printed Latham-Matthews edition. That is a wonderful edition, but this one is the first, 19th-century bowdlerized version, which in particular glosses over Pepys's entertaining sexeual escapades. A modern reader should wait for something better to come along.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the complete Diary of Samuel Pepys!, August 10, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I wish the other reviewer had posted his review before I bought this. This is not the complete diary of Samuel Pepys. It is the first 19th-century bowdlerized edition of Pepys, which not only glosses over his entertaining sexual peccadilloes, as one might expect in the Victorian era, but also randomly omits or shortens diary entries that the editor considered to be repetitive. Pepys's Diary is a treasure that takes us back to Restoration London, but only if you read it in a modern edition. I heartily recommend the 11-volume printed edition by Latham and Matthews; also their Shorter Pepys and Illustrated Pepys, both of which I have read with great pleasure. All out of print, but used copies are available; none of these are yet available for the Kindle.
