1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE: Long Wait & Return Problems for This Item, Because It Ships from Overseas, September 3, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'll leave it to other reviewers to comment on the merits or deficits of the Cygnett Leather Case for the iphone. Some like it; others complain of its poor quality. But far more disturbing than anything about the item itself are the deceptive business practices of its seller, totaldigital stores.

The company gives absolutely no indication anywhere in its Amazon listings that it is based not in the United States, as is the vast majority of third-party vendors selling on Amazon's U.S. site, and as one would expect them to be. Rather, totaldigital stores is located in the United Kingdom and ships all of its merchandise from that country.

So, what does that mean for prospective U.S. purchasers of its products? For one thing, far lengthier waits for its products to arrive than would be the case with shipments from domestic-based vendors. The company claims that its products arrive sooner than Amazon's projected delivery dates for them, but many dissatisfied customers weighing in on the company's Amazon feedback page tell a very different story.

For another thing, totaldigital stores's foreign location means that if you want or need to return an item to totaldigital stores, you're obligated to go through the tedious, time-consuming and expensive rigmarole of: 1) taking the item to the post office; 2) filling out a customs form; 3) attaching the form to the package; 4) waiting in a long line to have it postmarked; and 5) to add insult to injury, paying a hefty premium for international shipping versus what it would cost to return an item to a domestically-based vendor.

In other words, any return of merchandise to totaldigital stores entails such an onerous burden, both financially and logistically, that it's neither cost-effective nor practical -- and therefore, no rational human being would subject him or herself to doing it.

But of course, that's PRECISELY what totaldigital stores counts on to run its business the way that it does. That's why it's not upfront in its Amazon listings about the fact that its operation is based not in the United States, but overseas. If the company at least mentioned that fact somewhere -- ANYWHERE -- in its Amazon listings, then at least Amazon shoppers could make an informed decision about whether or not they wanted to make a purchase from this vendor.

But the unfortunate reality is that customers will not discover this truth until AFTER they make their purchase, and by then, it's too late: Totaldigital stores informs them that they had only 30 minutes -- yes, 30 minutes!! -- to cancel their order. After that, if they want a refund, they first have to wait for the product to ship from abroad, and then undertake the laborious return process that I described above.

It is from unpleasant personal experience that I know all of these details only too well -- as do so many of totaldigital stores' other defrauded customers, whose tales of woe can be found on the company's Amazon feedback page.

And that is why I'm issuing this warning to other Amazon shoppers...because forewarned is forearmed. Totaldigital stores is a total digital sham.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thankfully, They've Done It For Us One More Time, August 21, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Their series lasted only one season, but hardly for lack of dedication or effort on the part of the stars and their crew -- and this encore showcase of highlights reflects that spirit. The big obstacle to DVD reissues of variety shows is the high cost of music clearances, frequently resulting in those programs that DO receive the re-release treatment suffering from having many of their most melodious moments deleted. Happily, that's not so in the case of the Captain & Tennille's Ultimate Collection, which preserves most of the music from each included episode, and adds about a dozen individual bonus performances to boot. The entire package no doubt benefited enormously from the direct involvement of leads Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille, whose loving care, meticulous attention to detail, and genuine consideration for their fans is evident throughout both the original productions and their resurrection on DVD. At its current price, this set is a steal, and devotees of not only this dynamic duo, but the variety show form in general, would be well-advised to pick up a copy while it's still available. For folks who love this sort of material, enjoyment is virtually guaranteed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Egg Cooker, January 27, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having used the Nordic Ware Microwave Egg Boiler numerous times now, I'm delighted to state that not only does it cook hard-boiled eggs flawlessly each time out (9 minutes does the trick in my G.E. microwave), but it also yields an egg that always peels perfectly -- a process that frequently posed a problem when I boiled eggs the conventional way on the stovetop. At such a low price for a device that does its job so well, it's a true bargain.

One additional fact about this piece of cookware that isn't noted in Amazon's description and that I haven't seen mentioned in any of the other reviews is that according to the manufacturer's website, it is BPA-free -- excellent news for those of us who care about our health.

This review is from: Dean Martin Christmas (DVD)
Presented with most, though not quite all, of its original musical content intact, Time-Life's release of the 1968 Christmas edition of The Dean Martin Show treats us to the kind of grown-up yuletide confection we would expect from Dean, with just the right balance of sugar and spice. For anyone nostalgic for television's golden age of Christmas-themed variety programs, as well as younger viewers who'd like a taste of that magic, this well-preserved time capsule should hit the spot.

The Dean Martin Christmas Special is being made available as both a standalone item, and as part of a 17-disc boxed set of Time-Life's previously-released Dean Martin Show DVDs, under the umbrella title "Dean's Ultimate Collection" (see The Best of the Dean Martin Variety Show: Dean's Ultimate Collection). The latter includes a BONUS DISC heretofore sold only through Costco.

5.0 out of 5 stars Full-Length, Unabridged Episodes of The Dean Martin Show Finally Come To DVD!, March 23, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
UPDATE (6/21/12):

THIS JUST IN: One month after The Dean Martin Variety Show Uncut was released, The Golddiggers Super Site has learned exclusively that a 4th Dean Martin Show DVD set is in the works... Also: Guthy-Renker has pulled its Dean Martin Show volumes from the market (this time, forever)...Plus: The most thorough REVIEW and analysis of the new DMS Uncut DVDs to be found anywhere.

If you're a fan of Dean and his series and care about its future course, you won't want to miss our extensive coverage, which can be found simply by entering into any search engine the words: Updates/TheGolddiggers Super Site

ORIGINAL PREVIEW (3/23/12):

As those who have either purchased or simply read about past DVD releases of Dean Martin Show material are all too aware, many of the musical numbers from the original programs have gone missing from the home video editions, as casualties of the often prohibitively high cost of licensing reuse rights from music publishers, composers, and their estates. But fans of Dean's series who've long lamented this frustrating situation now have new cause to rejoice, with the imminent rollout of this forthcoming collection from Time-Life.

As its title suggests, The Dean Martin Variety Show Uncut at last delivers what Dino enthusiasts have long wished for: whole, unedited episodes -- in this case, 6 of them, drawn from the first 6 years of the series' run, digitally remastered on 3 DVDs.

Among the celebrated guest stars and familiar series regulars whose musical numbers will actually be shown in their entirety on these discs are: Cyd Charisse, Joey Heatherton, Caterina Valente, Barbara McNair, Zero Mostel, Leslie Uggams, Abbe Lane, Buck Owens, Buddy Ebsen, The Lettermen, Dom DeLuise, The Golddiggers and The Dingaling Sisters. And of course, most importantly of all, every one of Dean's performances -- both solo and in tandem with others -- has been included.

The parties responsible for producing this set -- Time-Life, NBCUniversal and The Dean Martin Family Trust -- deserve major kudos, not only for responding to fans' desires for complete, unabridged episodes, but also for managing to bring these wonderful goods to market for a very low price. In fact, to truly appreciate what a superb value this package is, one need only compare it to Guthy-Renker's Dean Martin DVDs, which, while offering an hour's worth of admittedly fabulous segments per volume, cost $19.95 apiece. By contrast, Time-Life's newest effort, if purchased at Amazon's current pre-order price, yields a total of SIX unedited episodes for about the same amount as a single G-R disc.

For much more on the new Dean Martin Variety Show Uncut collection, including further details of the Original Air Dates and lineups of the episodes featured -- info that you won't find anywhere else -- just Google the title of The Golddiggers Super Site's exclusive article: Dino Vino Undiluted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Anticipation Heating Up for The King of Cool, October 24, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
UPDATE (11/18/12):

The "King Of Cool" 6-DVD set has now been included in Time-Life's newly-released 17-DVD compilation entitled "Dean's Ultimate Collection", with the addition of a BONUS DISC previously available only through Costco. For a complete review of ALL of this material, replete with exclusive info, insights, program rundowns and pictures galore, just type into any search engine the title of The Golddiggers Super Site's article: Bundle Up With Dean.

ORIGINAL PREVIEW (10/24/11):

The eagerly-awaited follow-up to the first collection of material from The Dean Martin Show mined from the vaults of its originating network, NBC, and released by Time-Life last spring, this brand new 6-disc set contains 18 episodes culled from the 8 years that the program delighted audiences in the final hour of prime-time on Thursday nights (the series' final season, retitled The Dean Martin Comedy Hour, was moved to Fridays, with a modified format largely remembered for its introduction of the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts).

But it's the episodes comprising this new "King of Cool" collection that offer a representative sampling of the series' heyday, spanning the last show of its fledgling season (1965-66) to the final episode of its 8th season, telecast in the spring of 1973.

What's not known as of this writing (10/24/11) is how much of the programs' original musical content has been able to be retained in the transfer to DVD. Last spring's first outing reminded us of some of the harsh cuts that can result from the high costs and myriad complications of licensing copyrighted musical works, and we may need to brace ourselves for some similar edits in this second edition. Even so, the promised inclusion of 128 musical performances, as well as the rarity and diversity of many of the episodes chosen, make "King of Cool" a hands-down must for true fans of both Dean and his series.

For an exclusive rundown of the original air dates and guest stars of all 18 episodes featured in this new 6-DVD set, simply copy and paste (or type) into any search engine the words: Updates/The Golddiggers Super Site.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Performance and Value, September 30, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having tried what was supposed to be a better-quality trimmer made by Norelco, and found that it didn't cut hair nearly as well as the MicroTouch, I made another purchase of the latter (my third in the last 6 years) and am very glad that I did.

Many complain that the MicroTouch mechanism wears out sometime after one to three years of use. Well, indeed it does -- but then, how long does a straight-edge razor last? About the equivalent length of time, at most? So, why should anyone be surprised that a device costing only $10 would last any longer?''

The point to bear in mind is that for the length of time that the MicroTouch works, it works extremely well, shaving hair closely but safely. In my experience, the same cannot be said for the Norelco NT9110 (the model that I tried and abandoned after one use); and from what I've read, none of the other devices in this category perform any, if at all, better. The Micro Touch is the exception, and if I have to replace it every 1 to 3 years, then so be it. At least during the product's lifetime, it works the way it should.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Dean Martin Show Collection Contains Many 1st Time-on-DVD Musical Numbers, April 18, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
UPDATE (posted July 31, 2011): Now that The Golddiggers Super Site has confirmed that Time-Life is going forward with a SECOND edition of DVDs culled from The Dean Martin Show, we thought that this would be an auspicious time for a detailed and objective examination of the first collection, assembled with the aim of improving future installments.

Toward that end, we've reviewed the T-L sets' pluses and minuses, taken into consideration many of the criticisms expressed here on Amazon, and offered some informative background on both Dean's series and the complexities of clearing music for vintage television programs.

Beyond just surveying what's come before, we've additionally cast an eye toward what's next, by advancing a series of practical, viable solutions for avoiding some of the pitfalls of this initial release in future reissues.

And to make it easier for connoisseurs of this material to know exactly what they're getting (and what they're not), we've provided a painstakingly-researched appendix that takes the 20 episodes in Time-Life's 6-DVD set and compares the original musical content of those shows when they were first broadcast on NBC with not only the musical selections contained in Time-Life's reissue of those episodes, but also, with the musical portions of those episodes that can be found on the earlier 29-volume Guthy-Renker collection.

For the most sweeping and unbiased look at this subject available anywhere, simply type into any search engine the phrase: Updates/The Golddiggers Super Site

And we cordially invite anyone who has written a review of the Time-Life sets on these pages to add it to our site and/or comment on our article, where such postings are guaranteed to be read by those who will shape future releases of material from The Dean Martin Show.

ORIGINAL PREVIEW (posted April 18, 2011):

This collection is the one of three forthcoming releases representing the first new group of DVDs culled from episodes of The Dean Martin Show in 8 years, with the selections being produced this time around by Time-Life Video from footage supplied directly from NBC, the network that broadcast all 9 seasons of Dean's wildly popular variety series.

These new products - unlike the older ones from Guthy-Renker composed of segments drawn from different episodes and seasons of the program all mixed together - are arranged by individual episodes, with the 6-DVD set containing 20 episodes in all, featuring more than 50 guest stars and a total of 80 musical performances -- many of the latter making their official debut on DVD. The only advance, in-depth rundown of the guest star lineups and original air dates of the shows included on all three of the new Best of The Dean Martin Variety Show DVD sets can be found by using a search engine to locate: Updates/The Golddiggers Super Site (a site named after the female singer-dancers who became famous for their appearances on both Dean's TV series and their own).
