5.0 out of 5 stars Georgia Under Water, July 9, 2001
This review is from: Georgia Under Water (Paperback)
Georgia Jackson, a teenager living in Florida in the late 1970s, has a lot on her mind. Her parents are splitting up, she alternately loves and hates her alcoholic father, her brother runs away every month, and, most significant, she's growing up to be beautiful. This book has a cool format--it's made up of a series of interlocking chapters that can be read seperatly or as a whole novel. I loved it because Georgia makes the most simple, yet perfect observations. She compares a boyfriend's hands to "cheerful squids" and her newly lengthy legs to "long, sleek noodles." Also, unlike the heroines of most books about teenage girls, she's wild and confident.

4.0 out of 5 stars Think your life's tough?, July 9, 2001
Think your life's tough? Just look at what Lili has to deal with. Growing up in communist China, she spends all of her teen years living in a work camp--where everything is shared, and there is no privacy. Also, kids are offered rewards for ratting on their parents. She eventually runs away to live on the streets of Beijing. But it's not until she meets an American reporter that she questions herself and some of the customs of her country. Lili is both obnoxious and funny, and it's easy to have mixed feelings about her. Just when the reading starts to feel too much like an assignment your English teacher would have given you, Annie Wang writes something that truly makes you appreciate how good you've got it.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Rocks!!!, July 3, 2001

If you loved Green Day before, you won't be disappointed--they have that same pop-punk sound. I usually listen to pure pop groups like 'N Sync, but I really liked a lot of Green Day's songs. The lyrics are great, and the songs are filled with catchy beats.
Best Song: Misery

When you hear the term rap-rock these days, you probably think of artists like Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. But the label applies just as well to 2 Skinnee J's. The J's mix Beastie Boys-style old-school rap with guitar riffs and a healthy dose of humor. Clear some dance space in your bedroom and shout along to the hilarious "Stockholm Love."
Best Song: "3 Minutes"

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Pop and Make-out Music, July 3, 2001
This review is from: Revelation (Audio CD)
The guys from 98 Degrees are all grown-up (and how!), and they're unveiling a new, sexier R&B sound. They put fewer of their signature pop ballads on this album and instead packed it with smoother, more danceable numbers. Listening to these faster songs, it's obvious that the group was influenced by Latin grooves and soulful R&B. Best Song: Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)

5.0 out of 5 stars Body Movin' with a lot of Girl Power, July 3, 2001
This review is from: Music (Audio CD)
The mother of reinvention has done it again. This time Madonna has taken on a sound straight off the '70s funk record. And as expected, the new stuff is 100% fun! Expect an even more electronic, gutsier sound than you heard on her last record, Ray of Light. Groove to the futuristic dance beats in "Impressive Instant" and the dreamy eletro-funk of "Nobody's Perfect."
Best Song: "What It Feels Like For a Girl

Though there is no "Bra Song," he is declaring the racy "Dance For Me" as a "Thong Song" sequel! This time around Sisqo's got it all -- techno, dance, and slow jams. And his lyrics are deep -- he may seem tough, but he follows his heart. The best song on the new album is "Dreams." It is a powerful ballad that will make girls melt in their boyfriends arms.

Vitamin C is branching out into more daring territory on her latest album. She has songs that range from soulful (check out the sultry "Dangerous Girl") to wild & edgy (like "Busted"). Need a shot of inspiration? Just tune into Vitamin C's deep lyrics for some insight into the meaning of life.
Best Song: "The Itch"

This review is from: Mikaila (Audio CD)
She may be only 14 years old, but this girl already knows how to groove like a pro. Maybe it's because she's picked up some tricks from divas both old & new--you'll hear the influence of Whitney Houston & Christina Aguilera on this debut album. The song "Straight to My Face" is a perfect example of Mikaila's danceable mix of funk & soul along with girl-power lyrics that totally rock!
Best Song:"So In Love With Two"

Just like Christina Aguilera & Britney Spears, Joy Enriquez got her big break on Star Search when she was 15. Now the 21-year-old pop singer is ready for diva-hood herself. Joy's spicy debut album features ranging from groovy dance tracks to soft, romantic ballads.
Best Song: "Tell Me How You Feel"
