Glamorama (Vintage Contemporaries)
Glamorama (Vintage Contemporaries)
by Bret Easton Ellis
Edition: Paperback
Price: $13.35
239 used & new from $0.01

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but..., September 3, 2002
Don't expect to "understand" what is going on all time. Many of the book's motifs and "clues" never add up no matter how it tries (or does not?). Other than that if you are a fan of Ellis' past efforts you will get a kick out of his stock & trade nihilistic humor and pop culture observations.
That said, I'd recc "Less Than Zero" "American Psycho" and "Rules of Attraction" before this novel.

While it's all been said before, here's me two cents. This is a flat out incredible album -- one of the best, if not quite possibly the best, rock-n-roll records of the '80s. It's all here form the radio staples "Sweet Chid," "Paradise City" to the dark "My Michelle" and "Rocket Queen."

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good, if a tad bit over-produced, August 20, 2002
This review is from: Gasolina! (Audio CD)
This is a good Five-Eight album, just not their best. With this album the band had signed to a major label and adopted a different sound; consequently this was the last album with longtime drummer Tigger Ferguson who was replaced by Mike Rizzi.
Overall some very solid tracks here and I would not hesitate to recommend to any fan of the band.

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD album, August 16, 2002

A lot of people from the Panic camp like to bag on this album because it doesn't "jam." Okay, this is not a "jam band" record. JoJo and the rest of the band have other interest besides improvisational music.

I thought this book was an utter waste of time (and money.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Pure Americana, August 12, 2002

This book reads like your favorite album in all of it's edge-of-your-seat, page turning, glory. Follow Kerouac's thinly veiled alter-ego Sal Paradise and crew around the states when the word "beat" merely referred to the action, not the adjective we know today.

Forget "Gold." This is where the real genius of Ryan Adams can be found. No rock star posturing here, just balls out great music. Too bad they had to break up...

Wow, where to even begin?
If you have ever lived in Athens, GA and had the pleasure of going to The Grit than you can stop reading right now b/c this cookbook is chock full of that same stuff that kept you coming back again, and again, and again.
If you have not been to Athens and experienced The Grit this is the next best thing. Southern soul food with a twist? Maybe. It's just plain good, folks.

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
by Dave Eggers
Edition: Paperback
Price: $9.01
750 used & new from $0.01

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, August 8, 2002
One of the better (not to mention funnier) books I have read in the last year. Eggers draws you into his world, be it happy or sad, and keeps you there throughout. Definitely a page-turner & a great summer read.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...The all-night diner of my mind, August 6, 2002
This review is from: Weirdo (Audio CD)
I girl in Athens got me into this band in 1996. Glad she did. Though this album, and the debut LP "I learned Shut Up" are hard to find, it is definitely worth the effort. Mike Mantione practically kills himself working his way through each song. Rock and Roll.
