3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best, but it's purple., October 7, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The overall construction of the pointer seems to be pretty good. The problem is that the beam has a rather large "aura" around it, instead of a crisp dot like those produced by quality pointers. I wouldn't recommend it if you're looking for a true quality laser pointer.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE!, May 25, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Frequently produces poor quality print jobs, wasting lots of paper (about 50% loss). The only way to fix it is to remove and reseat the cartridge, and start over. It's never printed more than 5 pages between resets. This product is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE, even for the low price. I feel ripped-off.

My printer is in tip-top shape. The cartridge IS the problem.

3.0 out of 5 stars Even quality brands produce an occasional turd., May 24, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As far as basic flashlight functions go, this is a very good product. It's bright and seems to live up to the durability requirements of the MagLite product line.
The switch for the extra features, on the other hand, is complete garbage. The little indicator notch on the button is for show only. It does nothing to change or even indicate setting. If you want to use any of the features, you have to rotate the WHOLE FLASHLIGHT to place the desired setting at 12:00 position before holding the button. It's way more of a pain than it's worth. Not that you'll need any of those features anyway; they're pretty much useless. In no way do the terms 'user-friendly' or 'cost-effective' describe this product.
If you insist on a MagLite brand tactical flashlight, buy an XL50. Its switch design is just slightly less ridiculous. Otherwise, keep shopping. I love MagLite, but I would never consider one of these again until they design one that makes sense to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a toy., March 24, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Holy cow, this thing is BRIGHT! Even reflections off the surfaces you're sanitizing can hurt your eyes. I strongly recommend wearing a set of UV sunglasses when using this. I have a set of polarized Ray-Bans, which completely eliminated my eye strain. It's really easy to use, despite the key switch being a little funky. Thanks to this light, all toilet seats in the house are now fit to be eaten from. Though I think the upstairs one might be starting to grow a tumor...

5.0 out of 5 stars Linux users use caution. (Still a good printer.), January 23, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had some problems getting the driver to run properly for Linux (Ubuntu 10). For some reason, it insisted on using foomatic-rip to resolve the printer location. After a long struggle, I managed to shut that off and get it talking on the USB. This is almost certainly not the printer's fault, but if you're using Linux (or similar), I recommend doing a custom install through the terminal. That will allow you to turn off features you don't have or want, and reduce the risk of confusing the driver. Most proficient users should have no trouble with this.

Driver struggles aside, I absolutely love this printer so far. It's not lightning fast (on normal), but definitely faster than any inkjet. The main tray holds more than plenty of paper, and the manual tray is a great addition for the occasional special print job. I know this has been mentioned before in the reviews, but automatic duplex printing is the best thing created since breast implants. It's so cool to watch the printer spit out a page, suck it right back in and spit it back out with both sides printed. It's going to save me some real bucks on paper. Toner is a bit pricey retail, but there seems to be plenty of good deals out there on refills. If I could perform this purchase all over again, I'd still choose this printer. It's met or exceeded all my expectations.

NOTE: Do NOT buy the next model below this one. It's less than half the printer for virtually the same price.
