First, I want to say what a great job Lorna Wyckoff (Style Weekly) did in editing this book. A perfect job. So many times reviewers complain about spelling and grammar and inaccuracies. But not here. Thanks, Lorna. Smart, ambitious, competitive, and restless--the traits everyone seeks in a lawyer and they were all there. I appreciated the case references and there's a lot of name dropping. Familiar names that played a critical role in the building of a great attorney. While being a former FBI agent was helpful this is not necessary in being a great attorney. I recall being told by the FBI of recruitment problems with newbies testing positive for heroin use. That is until they realized that eating a poppy seed bagel for breakfast caused a positive test. They now have a way to factor that out. And the relentless problems with alcohol use which is not uncommon in police work. And that nice car! The sporty car! I had a girl once tell me on Strawberry St that her brother became a lawyer just so he could drive and own a Mercedes SL. And Mike's reliance on psychiatric testimony helps with good results. I often think that those accused of heinous crimes, very heinous crimes and/or crimes that don't make sense have serious undiagnosed brain pathology, having studied under noted brain pathologist, Walther Riese, MD, at the Medical College of Virginia. But rarely do you read or hear of the courts requiring an exam. Particularly telling is the 2nd paragraph on p43 in which Mike noted the law violated a client's right to privacy in which "Her sexual acts, if any, will be performed with heterosexual consenting adults in the privacy and seclusion of a massage establishment and she in no way will relinquish the private atmosphere surrounding those acts." While Mike won injunctions against the laws they were later rewritten. I recall having Mike's campaign manager, George Bright, MD for Adolescent Medicine at MCV and was in undergraduate class with Boatright, also named in the book. And the offering of $1 million for a local school system makes more sense than locking up non-violent criminals--at taxpayer expense. This is a no brainer. But there are those, still those, among us who would rather pay for jail than to live better lives themselves. And Mike is right on with the statement, "The value of locking up non violent offenders such as these men is a continuing issue for debate" adding "Prisons are still housing a lot of people at a high price to the taxpayers when many of these folks should be offered community service instead." (p66). And Mike's pro bono was a lot different than what many can expect even to the point of "contingency" seeming to dilute the otherwise effectiveness of attorneys who don't see the green waving immediately upon taking a case. Yes, Mike gave it 100% on pro bono and that helped make a name for himself. AND, Chp 8 Romancing the Brand is something anyone in business should always do but brings to mind a current $75,000+ lawsuit against Shaquille O'Neal for his Instagram photo that shows Shaq's great sense of humor but was not appreciated by the dude pictured next to him. Yep Shaq is being accused of keeping his "21 million-a-year brand in the news."

I first learned of Magic Mike through the Richmond Police Officer who was investigating my case. The young officer never made it to trial as he was killed in the line of duty before trial began. I was brutally attacked in Monroe Park one night and left for dead on the cold pavement while the girl I was with crouched behind a nearby park bench witnessing the entire event. The only thing missing was the popcorn. The boy had an 8th grade education and didn't just smell bad--he stunk. Even the officer admitted this. How he got transported down to the lockup in the police car is anybody's guess. I was approached initially by his uttering the statement to which I testified in court asking "where's Bubba?" The judge even asked him in court "Who's Bubba?" And he said he didn't know. I later, much later, realized he was making an attempt at the English language and was actually asking "Where's the Money?" After the assault, he dropped my wallet off at the nearby Commonwealth Club. In the dumpster. And kept my Seiko watch which I was later returned from Evidence. The boy needed money to get his mama out of jail. She had just killed her boyfriend. After leaving the Commonwealth Club, I was told he headed back to the Park for another victim. To get more money. It took me an entire year of going to court and fighting his court appointed attorney (not Magic Mike) to get him 4 years in jail. And he had no weapon. Only his fists. The officer would not release me on the night of the event and had me admitted to the MCV where a brain pathologist was brought in. I had no short term memory. I kept asking the officer who he was and his telling me did not register. But my conversation with the officer left me with a lasting impression of Magic Mike.

1.0 out of 5 stars 656 pages of crap, September 4, 2014
The author is asking that you wade through 656 pages of a warmongering diatribe disguised as "answers" to problems that will cause those problems to become more severe, and "answers" that she knows absolutely nothing about but is more than willing to stick her neck out and add "UN Ambassador" as her credentials. Political appointment, not withstanding, we have seen Power in action and the sordid mess that it has caused. IT WAS Power as one of the "Three Blind Mice" who with two other confused and frustrated women, Susan Rice, and yes, last but not least, HILLARY CLINTON, who Samantha Power once referred to as "a Monster." Uh, Huh! (Oh, were those Irish eyes smiling then?) Well, they got what they wished for. The death of Moammar Gaddafi in October 2011 and the collapse of Libya with open turmoil existing today and probably for many years to come. A once viable nation and its people now destroyed. Now, this cost the US taxpayers $100 million a day during our attack on Libya to depose Gadaffi, a ruler, and a country, who posed absolutely NO threat to the US whatsoever. But we did it anyway. We did the deed because of three (3) women who said this needed to be done, one of which was Samantha Power. I don't need a rambling tome of 656 pages to justify being a warmonger and wanting the US to go on a killing rampage ostensibly to right many wrongs by creating greater wrongs. Is this woman dazed and confused or what? Or simply sexually frustrated and cathecting this frustration into telling others to kill while sitting on the sidelines as an observer or perverted audience? And don't get me started on President Assad's efforts to save Syria and to keep Syria a secular government with no religion in control with everyone free to worship as they please. And if you don't think this is great, ask the good people of Turkey how things are going there now. Yep, the good times ended after 2007 and are getting much worse. And why every college age female I talk with from Turkey wants to leave. Women in Turkey are now told they can't be seen smiling in public. I guess it makes the leaders wonder what they're up to.

Every reader of this book should immediately turn to Aristophanes and his classic work, Lysistrata. But isn't this the common sense that so often alludes casual thinkers like Samantha Power? But she does have her cult following. And no one can say anything against Samantha Power without the seething wrath of those loyal cultists, uh....supporters. Every student of mental health will be told or at least should be told that you can't carry the burdens of others on your back. You can't cure every problem that comes your way or that exists in daily living. And if you try to, you too will end up in the nut house. But, apparently, this thinking never got to Power or at least she availed herself of preaching to the choir through this book, at least to those who waded through this 656 page morass. Oh, God! Here it comes. "You didn't read the book." or "You didn't read ALL of the book." To those who understand, no explanation is necessary. To those who do not, no explanation is possible. As they continue to trudge deeper into the swamp when up to their (behinds) in alligators.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse still, Worx NO LONGER offers a mower that ..., July 2, 2014
The narrative says as short a cut as 1 1/2 inches which is not acceptable. The inset box apparently is from an older mower which states 3/4 inch minimum cut. Worx NO LONGER offers a mower that leaves you with a 3/4 inch tall lawn. Worse still, Worx NO LONGER offers a mower that will cut down to 1 inch. I don't like to cut grass. Do you? Does anyone? That's why when we cut our lawns we want it to look like it has been cut when we finish cutting. We also don't want to have to cut our lawns again 3 or 4 days later because remember, when you finished cutting your lawn the last time it still looked like it hadn't been cut. I am after the golf course cut. Europeans call it the bowling green. China makes mowers that will cut down to 3/4 inch or 1 inch. The mower company just has to spec out their products to include this feature. It's called versatility. It's called variability. Worx used to do this. And then someone at Worx fell asleep. Lost their social consciousness. And wants you to cut more often, sweat more often, and turn your lawn into a field of everlasting tall growth. Looking for another product that will cut a minimum of 1 inch and hopefully the added choice of 3/4 inch if I'm so moved to do this. But NOT Worx. NO more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sweat in the heat and end up with a lawn that looks like it hasn't been cut when you're finished., July 2, 2014
A 1 1/2 inch cut is not acceptable. So you end up with a lawn that sticks up 1.5 inches and everyone is complaining the battery is shot? Why? It doesn't do any work to leave you with a one and one half inch tall lawn? Still looking for a mower that will offer a cutting choice of 1 inch or 3/4 inch like Worx USED to make.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cut your lawn and still end up with a field??, July 2, 2014
So the shortest cut is 1.8 inches....almost a 2-inch tall lawn? You slave over cutting your lawn in the hot heat and this is what you end up with? Why bother to cut your lawn at all? That's the message I'm getting from Worx. What a joke of a product!!

1.0 out of 5 stars You've got to be kidding!!!, July 2, 2014
So the shortest cut is 1.8 inches? Nearly 2 inches tall is as short as you can cut your grass? Why not just forget it and let your lawn grow into a field? Why is it the European mowers and some from China will cut as short as 1 inch and 20mm? Worx has gone from a decent cut in a model they no longer produce to a field cut. Great for tics and Lime disease from a nice tall lawn. But Worx doesn't care.

1.0 out of 5 stars 1.5 inch height is as short as you can cut?, June 21, 2014
Whatever happened to the golf course cut we came to love? Bosch and SunJoe still offer this. Why not Worx? We may have to bring Bosch over from Europe but at least after you finish cutting, your lawn looks like it's been cut.

1.0 out of 5 stars Minimum cut of only 1.5 inches???, June 21, 2014
What's the use of cutting your lawn if, after you finish, it looks like you've never cut it? What happened to the 1-inch cut? What happened to the 3/4 inch cut? Both used to be a cut choice offered by Worx.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best. However I am looking for another brand. No More WORX!!, June 2, 2014
This product has not 12 but 13v power and is corded. You get used to the cord when you realize what it can do. It is the ONLY Worx that offers a short and meaningful cut. While I usually use a 1-inch cut you can go from position 5 to position 6 to get a 3/4" cut. WHY cut grass if it looks like it's never been cut when you finish? Yes, YOU WORX, who no longer offer the short cut mowers. I like the golf course cut. I love the golf course cut. And the hard grass catcher box is so easy to use. Why did the Chinese Shanghai Americans by discontinuing the short cut lawn mowers? I am angry but looking for another brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't stop and you don't want it to stop--it's THAT good!!, May 12, 2014
This review is from: Horrible Bosses (DVD)
Good writer and good actors are a winning combination. Jennifer Anniston is at her very best as the dentist with no inhibitions. And so are all the others. This movie is hilariously funny and it never stops from beginning to end. Not sure how she gets the bad boss label, though. More like she's a boss with benefits. All I can say is if you're afraid to laugh, if you're a boring dullard then by all means avoid this movie. And you have to be wired right (most of us are) because it is a guy-gal movie throughout.

This tells it all: The film exceeded financial expectations, accruing over $28 million in the first three days to make it the number two film in the United States during its opening weekend, and going on to become the highest grossing black comedy film of all time. AND, because of this.....a sequel, Horrible Bosses 2, will be released on Nov. 26, 2014. I suspect the negative reviewers don't have a sense of humor or can't laugh at themselves.
