5.0 out of 5 stars believable future story, engaging characters, August 29, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Having read this first novel of the series and a preview of the second, I'm completely addicted and can't wait to find out what Sil and Grace (and Nick) get up to next. There are complex protagonists with ethics *and* defects, flawed enough to be relatable and likeable enough to root for.

I especially like the treatment of platonic friendship between male and female protagonists (something there isn't enough of in media), the creative decisions about plausible everyday challenges of future life in human colonies around the solar system, a main character who has principles while still having an active sex life (and, mostly separately, criminal career), and the slow-burn of a developing stable long-term relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick, fun read, highly recommended, July 4, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I wouldn't have picked up a romance about a sea-faring princess if I weren't already familiar with the author's style. She always surprises, not just with engaging characters and believable but still surprising plot twists, but also creating likeable stories in genres I didn't imagine liking. This was no exception, so you should read it whether or not you think it sounds like your kind of thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars great deal on clearance, June 8, 2014

if you loved the movie you might want to keep this doll for display. i wanted to use the parts, but i found the various outfit pieces to be a very good fit for slim action figure bodies and very well made. the doll itself will be good for making a custom character later.

5.0 out of 5 stars husband says you get what you pay for, February 10, 2014

these are so much better than the big-box-store slippers that he had, that fell apart in one month. we think he will have them for a while. they really are machine washable despite the leather sole. (air dry, but that's not been a problem so far)

5.0 out of 5 stars a little fiddly, works great, November 6, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
if you're used to an american style rice cooker, this has a lot more moving parts and things to wash. but on the other hand i think it's kind of worth it because it is so much cooler than the cheapo kind that we had before. and when i say cooler, i mean functionality (although it also looks cooler but that's not my priority).
let's see...
- it can keep rice warm for 24 hours without drying out (i haven't used this but it seems a nice idea).
- it has the stainless steel pan so you don't have to worry about toxins from the nonstick surfaces. and nothing sticks to the stainless steel pan at least if you use it right.
- it has the stainless steel steamer so you don't have to worry about toxins from plastic.
- it has a little plastic thingy to catch the extra water that comes out.

OK so with all those parts, plus the inside of the lid is a separate piece that you have to at least rinse and then remember to put back... it's a little fiddly compared to the simple ones you'd get at your big box stores. BUT, it's really nice and i think it cooks the rice nicer than the old simple one we got rid of. so i say it's a pretty unconditional recommendation.
the only thing would be if it stops working after a while or something. if that happens i will change my review later, or add to it.

PS: when you get the manual and try to read it, it's a little intimidating. it's actually not harder to use than the simple ones, as long as you remember to put all the parts in it (the lid thing and the water catcher thing).

[ETA] PS2: i should mention, having had this cooker for quite a while now... still liking it. just wanted to mention there's some rules that you can bend and others that you can't. in order for this rice cooker to work well, **never overload** it too much. i thought i had burnt it out the one time i did that, but afterwards i've only put reasonable amounts of rice/vegs in it and no problems.
also it's better if you put more water than it asks for, because when you leave it warming for hours it can get dried out. you can experiment with this like with any ricecooker.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent socks worthy of their price, but tight at top elastic., July 24, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i have to use compression socks for a medical issue. these are so much cuter and more fun than the medically-oriented compression socks. i bought the largest available size but the top elastic really cuts into my legs. but i like them so much (rainbows just make me happy to look at them) so i will try to stretch it out.

i was hesitant to pay twice as much as the more reasonably-priced medical compression socks but i think these were worth it. i cannot comment on how well they last because i only used them just today.

2.0 out of 5 stars not as good as the socks shown in the photo, July 22, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Miracle Socks (Sports)
i went to a drugstore and bought some compression socks. they cost $10 and were the brand shown in the photo (but size small). i figured it was overpriced because it was a drugstore.
so i get these and i'm pretty happy to get them for less, but then when i open the package, they are not the same socks. the drugstore ones (in the package shown in the photo) are nice and soft and smooth. these ones feel like they are made of acrylic or something, and the size XL don't fit me any better than the size small from the drugstore. they are icky-textured and cheap. they sort of work, though, which is why i give them 2 stars instead of 1 star...

2.0 out of 5 stars already too small and seem likely to shrink more, April 13, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
maybe i should have tried to find a XXL because other pants from this company fit me in that size. these ones are probably a decent size XL by some standards, so... OK.
but i think they will shrink a lot when i wash them, because often that kind of material does shrink.
keeping because the price was so cheap to be not worth sending back, but i may just give them away to a smaller friend.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok but not what i needed after all., April 13, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
these were almost more like boot-cut leggings (fitting closer to your body at and above the knees). if you want them as leggings or you don't like things loose, then maybe order according to the sizing here.
i wasn't sure so i ordered 2 sizes, then after a while decided to stick with some truly wide leg ones by keeping a 1x pair instead.

the fabric seems ok as well. the length was good and not skimpy, and if it shrinks in the wash it should still be ok.
