5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, April 16, 2014

It's my fourth read on the GA, and it's terrific. The research is off the charts, and each chapter is like being fed another course at the dinner table. I highly recommend for those who love Lincoln, the GA, or just those who like a good detective story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Find a REAL book about Lincoln people, November 25, 2013
This book is pure GARBAGE! Why don't you ask Mr. DiLorenzo why he won't debate Mr. Allen C Guelzo or any other Lincoln scholar in a public forum??? Because he won't, and he can't. This man is professor of economics not history. He has figured out by selectively taking some of Lincoln's quotes and stories that best fit his narrative he can make some money so perhaps he does know his economics by making you people pay for his idiocy. He's making money, congratulations! Lincoln was a complex man no doubt, but he also saved this nation and even made a new one that included African-Americans. I would continue this conversation, but it would be pointless. I doubt I could convince any of you anymore than you could convince me...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!!!, November 16, 2013
This review is from: Trying Times (Kindle Edition)
My 8 year old son read this book and LOVED it!!! As a teacher I decided to read it myself, and then decide if I would recommend it to other teachers or parents of young readers. And I absolutely would! Mr. Deveney paints a vivid picture of the Revolutionary War that draws readers of all ages into a world long gone but never forgotten. The story and verbiage that he uses is perfect for young readers. My son wants the entire series, so even though he doesn't know it yet one item on his Christmas list is about to be crossed off. Highly recommended!!!

I remember the run by the Wolfpack, but I remember Jimmy V's fight against cancer even more! The film is terrific. It blends interviews, game footage, and emotion into one great doc. The entire 30 for 30 series is great, and this is one of if not the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's Good not Great, August 8, 2013
I love it's minimalistic size and portability. Sound is ok, base is lacking as is its loudness and depth. However, for what I need it for it works perfect. On the fly, by the pool or just on the move. Price point is good, and so I recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Keep Looking, August 8, 2013
This review is from: Killing Lincoln (DVD)
I've read many many books over the Lincoln assassination and his was by far the worst! The film is just okay. Luckily it spares you the whole conspiracy angle about Stanton, but it does provide you with some cool visuals and first rate talent in the production. Do yourself a favor and read anything by Dr Alan C Guelzo over Mr. Lincoln or even James Swansons books for a more realistic look at our 16th president.

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterful, October 8, 2012
This review is from: Ken Burns: The Dust Bowl (DVD)
I was fortunate enough to see a preview cut of The Dust Bowl last week in an event hosted by PBS and it's typical Ken Burns. Burns revolutionized the documentary format in 1990 with The Civil War. His style and technique changed the way stories are told now by historians and filmakers around the world through film. So it should come as no surprise that The Dust Bowl is yet another great work by the masterful director. The film documents the Dust Bowl through iconic pictures and film as Burns usually does, but it is told through the eyes of the survivors in a way that makes the experience even more powerful. I would describe the film as The Worst Hard Time comes ALIVE! If you enjoyed the book by Timothy Egan you will no doubt love this film. If you have not read the book by all means do yourself a favor and do so. Egan is a major contributor of course along with other historians as they are used to frame the events of the era, but it is the "survivors" that truly make the film special! I HIGHLY recommend this film to individuals that love history,to anyone who wants to learn more about the struggle of survival in one of the greatest man-made disasters in world history to anyone who just loves a great documentary.
