3.0 out of 5 stars C'mon Beach Boys!, February 1, 2012

They really should release the studio version of this song they recorded during the Holland sessions. This live version though DOES show what Ricky Fataar and Blondie Chaplin brought to the Beach Boys during the 70's.

It is the only place to get this song, so i considered it worthwhile. Not the best tune around but very solid for that Era of Beach Boys.

3.0 out of 5 stars R.E.M.... Featuring Mike Mills!, February 1, 2012

There isn't a lot of songs out there by R.E.M. where Mills gets to sing lead. This is one and part of me wants to be like "oh gee this is kind of bad!" and another part of me is like "golly, this is a hoot!"

It reminds me of the Jayhawks if Mike Mills was in that band singing lead? Different for R.E.M. but kind of neat...

4.0 out of 5 stars Old song finally makes it out!, February 1, 2012

I guess this song was written in the mid to early 80's but hadn't been released until this collection came out. Regardless, with this song, you've got a simple number which is catching in all the right ways R.E.M. tends to be.

A nice single to grab!

3.0 out of 5 stars It won't start a revolution BUT it is alright..., February 1, 2012

I think this single was from/around the Monster sessions. A decent rock piece by the band w/ some topical moments in the lyrics.

Worth the download IF you dig Monster era REM. (not anywhere as good as anyhing off that album however)

4.0 out of 5 stars Sean Lennon's lost little brother...., February 1, 2012

This review is from: Bart Davenport (Audio CD)
I think i ran into this artist via the Big Takeover and they stated what a nice slice of folk combined w/ pop it was. From the first spin on through, i heard a LOT of Sean Lennon within his music but perhaps a better (speaking in terms of first albums) Sean Lennon. Nice melodies, very smooth and easy on the ears.

There could be some Donovon to his musical approach as well, regardless of who has inspired Bart Davenport, if you like melodic well done music with a sixties feel, i'd suggest giving this album a spin.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a cover song! (hallelujah for that!), February 1, 2012

Just so you know, it isn't a cover song of i believe Leonard Cohen? This is a complete 100% original piece of work by R.E.M. and a good one at that! Very dynamic in sound with a nice use of crescendo's in building up the music.

If this is one of the last songs R.E.M. ends with, they've chosen wisely.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the REM i will miss the most..., February 1, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Such a great song made with a nostalgia sort of bend. Nice and melodic and to me, one song *i* will consider a classic even if other REM fans do not.

Almost a sixties vibe to it at points in times. 100% worth downloading OR if you need/want to grab the collection because you are missing other stuff...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty toss offy sounding..., February 1, 2012

In the throws of the retirement of REM, i went on a hunt for obscure music of theirs i didn't own. This was one of the tracks i located! Was it good? Well....hmmm, it is different for them. Sort of vampy in a rock and roll camp kind of way. The best part of it ACTUALLY is the fact Stipe hurts his voice at the end of the song on a screamy moment.

Only for completists. Other far better singles to choose from.

While i'm very sad to see R.E.M. hang it up, i was pleased to get three songs off this collection which were new.

A Month of Saturdays is a very short little number by the band BUT is pretty different in terms of work they've done. Perhaps overly simple in lyrics, it manages to push the happy button in all the right ways. I mean, really...who wouldn't want a month of Saturdays?

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully Drake continues to make great music...., February 1, 2012

It's been far too long between Drake Bell releases and this EP was tossed out to hopefully calm the masses (or at least me) Mr Drake Bell to me is a guilty pleasure and the music held within doesn't change ANY of that concept. Nice solid music with catchy hooks and sing-along chorus's. If you own the two LP's don't hesitate to grab this EP. All 4 of the songs within are completely worthwhile and the kind of music Drake Bell fans AND others would dig.
