1.0 out of 5 stars Purchased 2 units, returned both! Had to be unplugged and reset each and every time!, October 18, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
All I can say on this DVD player is thank goodness for Amazon and the excellent return policy it has in place.

We had owned the previous model and generally it had performed well but the Wi-Fi component stopped working after 2 years , and these days it seems things like this have a shorter window of function. However this newer model - the BDPD3200 lasted just under a month in not one but two cases!

We purchased two, and within about 2/3 weeks of use the first one began giving us problems. It would freeze for no given reason not just when using the Wi-Fi, but the entire unit itself would simply stop functioning with the only resolution being to unplug, wait, and plug it back in to reset itself. This began happening more prolifically, then the second unit began doing the same thing! When one stops working then maybe you got a lemon which can happen with anything, but when BOTH units are doing the exact same thing, I have to wonder about the integrity of the product.

As we had only had this a few weeks; and own two units that have to be unplugged to reset at every use; returning was a no brainer! I am now on the hunt for a good Wi-Fi DVD player that will stream Amazon and most importantly -works

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun story of Skattz the cat and his quest to make sure felines everywhere get the Christmas they deserve!, October 4, 2014
This is a really cute book for kids this holiday season! I personally love seeking out new books to go with each season to get the kids reading while building excitement about the impending holidays, and as a cat loving household, I knew this would be a hit!

This book features Skattz the cat, a well behaved feline who happens to love Christmas, yet despite being good, keeping his room clean, putting away his toys, listening and doing all the things that would children on Santa's good list, he gets no presents. On behalf of himself and his fellow felines, he decides this problem is big enough to take "straight to the man in charge" and sets out on an epic journey to the North Pole. What follows is a discussion with the big man in red which leads to a good outcome for all in the kitty kingdom, rendering Skattz as the hero.

This book is cleverly written and brightly illustrated, I particularly ;loved the description of his epic journey, across different terrains, using various forms of transport. It shows our characters determination and some of the scenes had my kids in stitches, they were pretty funny! His conversation with Santa was also a little unexpected and not as straight forward as one would assume which added to the storyline.

This was a really great book, just the right length for the intended audience. I would think younger kids 4 and up would enjoy having this read to them and independent readers of 6 and up would enjoy being able to tackle this themselves ; with fun illustrations to draw them in! It had a fun story line and this cat loving household does make sure the kitties are included in gift giving over the holiday season!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating illustrations and a wonderful story for the younger reader!, September 28, 2014
This is a cute little book with just enough length that it will keep little ones engaged and beginner readers confident enough to complete it.

It is beautifully illustrated which will draw the younger reader in ; and simple repetitive language to focus on those early reading skills. I would note that this book is listed for 3-8 year olds, but is really much more appropriate for those at the youngest age of this spectrum; though 5 and 6 year olds should enjoy it as independent readers.

The story focuses on "Big wave" and all the things he can do - which he happily boasts about to his friend "Little Wave" ; and though those things are helpful, it is important to know that the little guy has a role and can help too! Being an unconditional friend and not losing sight of the big picture is the concluding message which makes this a great story for kids!

Cute little book with a good story and captivating illustrations make this is a great pick for parents and younger readers alike!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great variety for the price, long burn time and good selection of fragrances to try., September 28, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had not tried this brand before, but the price and quantity was enough to prompt me to buy, and the fact that this was a sampler set allowed me to experience a variety of different scents before committing more money.

These are actually quite exceptional in that they have a longer than usual burn time! They give the room a nice fragrance l without being too overpowering or smoky and have a nice lingering effect. There are about 15 sticks in each pack and the difference scents each have a subtle difference that good are sure to find one or more that become a favorite. This is an exceptional deal for the price and quantity ; I would certainly purchase this brand again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, comprehensive guide to smoothies of all kinds!, September 20, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an excellent, well written guide to smoothies! Unlike a lot of books in this category that are low priced or free, this is a comprehensive guide that comes close to 200 pages, and I also liked the fact that this author created an "Author page" on Amazon, telling us a little bit about her background which does include a degree in Nutrition; hence the knowledge and passion for this subject!

The book begins with a brief explanation of this history of smoothies and how they have evolved today, then begins looking specifically at veggie smoothies which I found particularly interesting as most smoothies tend to be fruit based, missing out on the essential nutrients and complex flavors one can get from veggies! The author chose to explore many different vegetables and looked at taste profile and nutritional content. The accompanying recipes were really unique, using readily found ingredients and I am inspired to try many of them - on fact this is one of those rare books that I will actually keep on hand after reading!

In similar fashion, the author then explores fruit smoothies with tips on what to look for , and storage! The recipes incorporate fruits, nut butters, seeds and spices. This is followed by smoothies for health, each with different properties such as lowering blood pressure, natural boosters against diabetes, asthma etc. For those with a sweet tooth, looking for something as a treat that may not be calorie low but will save you those coffee shop dollars, there is a selection of chocolate and coffee inspired drinks; and even seasonal drinks such as pumpkin and egg nog smoothies! And there are even some dessert inspired drinks that are healthier than they sound. Take for example the Strawberry Cheesecake Smoothie - sounds indulgent but the recipe list which includes berries, almond milk and chia seeds makes this a nutritional powerhouse!

The book ends with tips on making a good smoothie, choosing the right blender (and no this does not try and sell you the expensive commercial brands, in fact there is no brand reference at all which is a refreshing change!) and finally easy clean up tips!

This book was well written , very informative and one that I will use. If I could change one thing, it would be nice to have nutritional information for each drink, but nevertheless, the list of good quality ingredients means I would be happy making most of these drinks!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good compliment to a green cleanse, with lots of recipes, but needs more background information for those new to this diet!, September 20, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have ready many books on this subject and I have to admit that personally that I have a preference for those written from a more expert perspective such as a dietician. However, as recipes and ideas widely differ; it is always interesting to try out new authors !

How you will like this book will really depend on what you are looking for! If you are in the market for lost of new ideas in terms of smoothies, this book will fit the bill as there are over 50 recipes, with some really unique and interesting ideas that I have not seen anywhere else. the ingredients are common place, easy to find and there is really something for everyone whether you prefer sweet, more savory, a chocolate taste, a berry taste. For example, the vegetable salad in a cup was certainly something a little different and the exotic fantasy green smoothie with dried apricots and pumpkin seeds was a tasty combination.

However if you are new to a green smoothie cleanse I would not necessarily start with this! There is no nutritional information whatsoever on each of these smoothies so who knows exactly what calories or nutrients you are getting from each smoothie and this is certainly of importance. Secondly, most of these were higher in fruit content than green content which adds more calories, less nutrients and can be an issue for certain people with food sensitivities.

This book begins by stating that you "are holding in your hands all you need to know to start your own Green Smoothie Cleanse challenge" However, it is a best a companion to other books - in fact, to its credit, is does state that this is a companion to another book. by JJ Smith. It is also missing some important information such as those considering a cleanse should prep before hand, reducing things like caffeine, dairy, alcohol BEFORE embarking on such a cleanse. There is also the need to let folks know that the first few days can be tough, there are side effects and one should reduce exercise.

I also felt like there was a lot of hype: you will lose" ugly belly fat without exercise" for example! A green cleanse will certainly reduce bloat and can speed up weight loss; but a flat belly requires exercise too! And those who are prone to Candida could actually find themselves with serious bloating due to the fruit content. I am also not too sure that someone with no medical background should advise people to perform a daily color cleanse if needed. Those new to a green smoothie diet, could find serious side effects from performing this in conjunction with a new high fiber diet!'

In a nutshell, this is indeed a good compliment to a green smoothie cleanse diet, with some really cool recipes; but those new to such a cleanse, might want to do further research while using this book for recipe ideas!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read! This book is creepy, unpredictable and one you will not want to put down!, September 20, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fourteen Days (Kindle Edition)
This is the second book I have read by this author , having enjoyed both the story line and writing style of his other title "Burn the Dead"; and I have to say, I hope he keeps the books coming!

This was one of those great books you simply do not want to put down! I began reading on a flight and did not want that flight to end - ultimately I ended up reading it in just two sittings! The author has really great writing style, that is enjoyable and an easy read! You quickly identify with the characters (maybe not their scenarios given the book topic) but it draws you in right from the very beginning!

The other thing I really liked about this book, is the fact that it is not at all predictable! Most books with a thriller / horror theme quickly become rather obvious but in this case, my hunch about what could possibly happen, could not have been further from the truth!

The story revolves around Richard Gardener, a workaholic forced to slow it down and take two weeks off work which he finds a struggle, a big struggle -right there I could identify with that character, as much as I would like a two week break, I would struggle with what to do! However, his life takes a turn is a way that I hope mine never will, when slowing it down means he sees what he has not before - a presence in his home, a ghostly figure of a women that is described so well, you can picture the scenario and his fear! It is creepy but also compelling -who is she and what is her story?

The fact that he also struggles with what he has seen; and his wife thinks he is going crazy , also lends to a more realistic note in this book. But you want him to keep digging to find out more about this ghostly woman; and the ending is quite frankly, nothing you would ever expect!

This would be a great book to curl up with on a cold weekend evening...and please Steven Jenkins, hurry up with a new book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, easy to use and great wirelessly streamed sound!, September 9, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this as a gift for my daughter's Birthday. We looked at some higher end speakers but at the end of the day she wanted not only something to play her music, but really wanted the alarm clock function and of course the color changing aspect was appealing to a kid!

It's a nice compact size, with an easily read display and the alarm function is simple to use with an option to choose between the buzzer, radio or streaming music with your Bluetooth enabled device. It has a snooze function, which my daughter loves, me -not so much when I need her to get up and going!

I have to admit the color changing function is pretty fun! There are 5 color choices -red, blue, amber , green and white with 4 modes, including the option to customize wake up moods. The colors are bright without being too obnoxious and add just the right glow to a kids room!

The sound quality was actually rather good ; it was pretty easy to stream music from her iPad and it also works with iTouch, iPhone as well as other platforms such as the Android and Blackberry. She was happy enough with the quality and output. You can also hard wire in (chargers not included) in order to charge your device which is another bonus!

It was easy to set up, is simple to operate and you honestly do get decent sound from this device. The alarm aspect and color changing functions are fun; and I really like the fact that you can wirelessly stream music. All in all for the price, this was a great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive guide to a juice fast with a wide variety of recipes!, September 4, 2014
I have recently considered a juice fast after trying some of the tasty concoctions at my local juice bar but herein lies the problem - their juice fasts run upwards of $200 for a 5 day fast - for that price I can buy a pretty good juicer and go it alone . Or do I forgo the juice fast as I already have a Vita mix and power up some smoothies, with fiber intact? For these and many other questions, I downloaded several juicing books on Amazon, most too poor to even merit a mention - but this was a stand out!

It's a really comprehensive guide, with over 150 pages of detailed information and recipes. It begins by looking at fasting, who should consider a fast and who should not. How long should you fast for; benefits, preparation, before and after nutrition, safe tips, weight loss, best fruits and veggies for weight loss. I felt this was well researched and very informative.

As many reviewers have pointed out - this book pertains to juice fasting alone and talks about the process of juicing which omits the pulp and hence the fiber. There are arguments on both sides about which is better, however this book was about juice fasting alone hence this argument was not explored. Those on the fence about which is better for them, or do they need to invest in a juicer verses a blender, might want to do further research or look at books which explore both juices and smoothies! For me, this book met my goals.

After a detailed look at the whys and how's behind juicing, this book then launches into a comprehensive selection of recipes, many I had not seen before or would not have even considered. What was also very useful was the fact that they detail the calorie content and the health benefits of the feature ingredient of each juice! None of the other books I read went into this much detail! There was something for every palette , incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables.

If you are looking for a comprehensive guide, with a great background to juicing and a wide selection of recipes, I would really recommend this!

2.0 out of 5 stars Good ideas lost among poor editing where things are repeated or omitted!, August 31, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I like Chia seeds but beyond adding them to a Chia pudding, salad or homemade granola bars my knowledge of what else to do with them is limited so I picked this book to get some good ideas!

The book begins with a brief description of the history, background, use and nutritional information of Chia seeds which is useful before launching into a rather comprehensive list of recipes . This covers the use of Chia is everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner, to salads, smoothies and desserts! There were some great ideas and many I had never seen before!

The reason I gave this book two stars, is the format lets it down! It seems this is only made for the Kindle so one would assume it would be properly formatted. However this is not the case! Beginning with the history, it talks about the biggest advantage of Chia seeds on one page, then repeats that information on the next! This would not be so bad, if only it did not pertain to the recipes, but unfortunately it does! Beginning with the very first recipe for the Chia breakfast bowl, it gives you 5 out of 6 steps on one page...then the next starts with the list of ingredients again!! Other recipes stop mid way and you are left not knowing how to finish them - and still others are repeated page after page!

The other thing I am not a fan of, is I love when a book gives you a background of the author and how they came up with some of these dishes. In this case, there is no information at all, and in trying to figure out how to make some of these recipes after they were only partially completed in the book, I was able to find most of these recipes quite easily on the web! For example, the recipe for "Raspberry, Coconut and Chia seeds popsicles" was written verbatim on another website called Skinny Taste where the blogger claims to have created them (2 years ago)! So this book reads as though the author simply copied other recipes - though to be fair there is no suggestions she created them herself - and compiled them in a book without bothering to edit or check for basic mistakes!

Personally I am not a fan and erased this from my Kindle. A book of repeats on some pages, with half the recipe missing on others is not a great read and you will be left with some great recipe ideas with no idea how to complete them!
