Shopped around locally for this product. No one had ever heard of it. This is by far the best deal out there. Excellent quality product across the board. Moderate to medium spicy. Nice touch when you need a little heat with a fruity flavor. Very nice. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fantastic collection of really good music, August 3, 2014
This review is from: Life on Earth (Audio CD)
This is a fantastic collection of really good music...one of my all time favorite desert island discs. Thoughtful, tasty, artistic, musical, technically accomplished. I wanted to write this review 15 years ago. The Betty's Beat tunes never fail to inspire. Whenever I need a positive bright moment in my life, I turn to Life on Earth by the Catholics....btw, there is no "religion" involved in this music.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Energy, Live In Studio - No Horns - Brooklyn's Finest!!, April 25, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Puppeteers (Audio CD)
Anyone familiar with the now defunct Puppet's Jazz Bar in Park Slope, Brooklyn, knows the greatness that is the quartet assembled from Puppet's "all-stars", now known as The Puppeteers. Lead by the "Puppethead" himself, drummer Jaime Affoumado, this is a live-in-studio outing, that is a clean, fresh, passionate take on that magic that occurs when virtuosic musicians who know each other really, really well put out a record. These guys get together and execute exceptionally good jazz. Forget about your typical boring jazz excursion that is "introduce head, mandatory solos around the bandstand, revisit head, coda", which can be worse than predictably boring sex. Save that for your 4-day, 3-night cruise. This is more like "really original, interesting and challenging head, technical, super-tight, awe-inspiring solos, punctuated with syncopated, rhythmic & compositional brilliance". There is no shortage of chops, creativity & feeling here. Bill Ware's brilliant vibe playing keeps things bright and intensely refreshing, and Arturo O'Farrill's piano playing is so effortlessly over-the-top. It all flows through Jaime's timekeeping, which is highlighted by serious groove and astounding cymbal work. Alex Blake's melodic bass style shines, but transcends mere anchoring...he's holding it all down while flying high somewhere in the stratosphere, with his flight of fingers & soloing aptitude. Although I could do with a smidge less of his tendency to sing along with his own solos, this is more of my personal preference...the content is by no means lacking. These guys are masters at the top of their game. Right out of the gate it's apparent that what's going on here is superlative musicianship, complemented by tasteful composition and perfect cohesion. Think of one of your most treasured, perfect childhood memories....this is right up there. The Puppeteers is first rate stuff. There are no compromises in this session. Btw, the sound quality is A+, which completes the package. These artists are hitting on all cylinders. Listen to Bill Ware's vibe solo on track # 5 ("Bio Diesel"), and you'll know what I mean. Let's hope they continue to record together and give us more. Don't Miss This One!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Equisite Arranging Meets Killer Musicianship, May 6, 2013

This review is from: 21 Spices (Audio CD)
Wow! This recording satisfies on all levels. Trilok's music is brilliantly arranged and masterfully executed on this live set. The NDR Big Band, as always, brings unbelievable virtuosic skill and precision, with very high production values, in a rip roaring, ho holds barred journey. Simon Phillips kicks major butt, and more than delivers the goods in this very demanding setting. There is power, grace, sensitivity, chops, emotion, passion, electricity, depth & cohesion. Trilok Gurtu is a master composer, an unbelievable technician and a genius of versatility. This music truly embodies the concept of jazz based ethnic fusion. Listen to "Kuruk Setra" (dedicated to John McLaughlin), and you'll know what I'm talking about. Unquestionably a desert island disc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Product!...Taste is far better than "tolerable", April 2, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First of all, the quality of this product is unsurpassed. No fat, no carbs, no sugar, no cholesterol, 25G's protein, no preservatives, extremely portable unbreakable container, requires no refrigeration...with all of these positives, it would still be great even if it tasted horrible. It's all of 2.9 0z's...barely a mouthful. It happens to be quite palatable. No chalky, vitamin taste. I'm not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. The taste is not at all bad, maybe a little too sweet, but come on already! The process of drinking it takes about 1.5 seconds. Are you kidding me? This is an absolute winner....you'd be foolish to pass this up over a few people's exaggerated complaints about taste. It is a very essential component of my daily routine that I recommend highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Awesome - Take the time to set up right & you will never look back!, November 30, 2012
The opportunity presented itself to acquire these at a phenomenal price. After a nudge or two, I took the plunge. I had a transition occurring relating to relocation my ever trusty and awesome sounding 90's era Tannoy bookshelves from one nearfield listening environment to another. Translation: these speakers had some major frickin' shoes to fill. I upgraded my sound card to an asus with digital/optical out, hooked these guys up and after a little bit of tweaking (give them room, left to right...they like to be farther apart than you might otherwise think) I am practically blown away. The bass is quite competent & the stereo imaging is magical. Imagine staring at your monitor and having a beautiful wall of sound, with little or no semblance of sound directionally or disproportionately emitting from the actual speakers. Whatever science is going on here works, and you would be hard pressed to find sound this good at this price point. While this is not by any means even close to a Focal Bird 2.1 system ($1149 and sounds as good as something 100x as expensive...I'm not kidding) the $49 I spent to buy these on Woot! is possibly one of the best audio purchases I have ever made. Even at the regular Amazon price, these are fantastic desktop/computer speakers. The 30 minute shut-off is irrelevant...forget about that nonsense. Bottom line...they sound great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worlds are turned on the greatness of this recording, November 30, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is quite possibly the greatest recording of live jazz that exists in our universe. One fine day I stumbled across "Claressence". After the the first few minutes or so, (3/4's through Steve Nelson's solo) I was locked in and starting to groove. Midway through Chris Potter's solo I realized I was gyrating. After the impeccable Holland solo, came the Potter/Eubanks counterpoint, which is when I realized my life had been indelibly altered. We're talking about major life-changing joy. Unmitigated happiness, love & brilliance. I have 1600 something cd's, and after it is all said & done, other than "The Inner Mounting Flame" and possibly "Live at Filmore East", this set has taken me to that place that some would call nirvana. 47,000 listens later, I own every piece of music recorded by Dave Holland & have seen the quintet 30+ times on 3 continents. I've spoken to the band members at shows, at length, and oh, by the way, did I mention Billy Kilson? Holy mother of God! Simply put, you will not find a more cohesive, sophisticated, proficient example of a band hitting on all cylinders. The transitions (8:27 in on "Prime Directive") will take your breath away. The new bass line that emerges at 6:11 in "Metamorphos" is like the best steak or hot fudge sundae you've ever had. Oh, and you know that elusive thing defined as perfection, or perhaps New York City?...you can find that in Potters solo (11:37-18:00) in the same song...I could write volumes about the greatness of every tune. This recording is as good as it gets & has the power to transform, transcend, transport...you name it. This is the stuff that makes you realize how great it is to be alive. Buy this set & forever love life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Half an hour later she had frenched his fry...., September 9, 2012
This review is from: Bongo Fury (Audio CD)
This is essential Zappa. A must have in any collection. Zappa's evolution into what would become some of the most sophisticated compositional music structure was starting to take full stride. The late great Don Van Vliet takes this to another level in terms of sheer, unabashed creativity. Teach this music to your children.

Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe
Wolfgang Puck WPTPCM010 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Stainless-Steel Thermal Carafe

1.0 out of 5 stars Bottom Line - Don't buy this low quality product, September 2, 2012
The title of this review, along with the majority of the other reviews basically sums it up. You should not waste your money on this product. If you care to read a few extra details and one very significant point, which should be enough of a reason to have this product taken off the market, then stick around for another minute or two. After decades of brewing consistently excellent coffee via high quality, freshly roasted & ground beans, through a simple Melitta or Chemex pour through setup (ironically the least expensive way to go, assuming you have a stove), life dictated the need for a coffeemaker. I bought this unit from a daily deal site owned by Amazon for slightly more than 1/4 the retail price, so thankfully, my "investment" was minimal. What I have come to conclude is that the world of coffeemakers is nothing more than a variety of compromises. The cheap units like mr. coffee or black & decker don't get hot enough to make a good cup of coffee, any of the non-thermal, glass pot units with a burner underneath scorch the coffee, making it undrinkable in rather short order, and the thermal pots with a spring loaded plunger beneath the filter basket, over the carafe, are all susceptible to varying degrees of spillage, overflow, leaking, and general misbehavior. This unit has exhibited most of the above. The brew temperature topped out at 186 degrees, which is on par with the $20 Mr. Coffee unit. The dreaded overflow of grounds & liquid all over the counter/floor was a regular occurrence. Who cares why? Once is too many times. One shouldn't have to come up with a bunch of workarounds to avoid this. Zero-tolerance for that kind of crap. The carafe leaks from the spout, the top seam, the bottom seam and the lid. As others have said, have your paper towels nearby. Lastly, and this is the real zinger.....I received a pretty strong electrical shock retrieving the pot from the unit. 'Nuff said...time to get rid of this dangerous, poorly made, piece of garbage. It is likely Mr. Puck has never actually seen one of these units bearing his name, much less used one, but if he had, he would certainly think twice about endorsing such a worthless item. He has obviously cashed the check by now...so much for integrity. While all of the different coffeemakers have their pluses and minuses, this one fails miserably across the board.

3.0 out of 5 stars It Squeaks - Otherwise Good, January 2, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
While reading reviews for this frame, I noticed about 20% of the reviewers complained of it squeaking. The others were overwhelmingly positive, so I decided to take a chance. I guess I fall into the minority. I probably would not have bought it if I knew it was going to squeak.

Pros:
Inexpensive
Very Sturdy
Unbelievably easy to set up < 5 mins.
Quite Comfortable when used w 12" memory foam mattress
The ability to store underneath is awesome. It's like a whole storage space you never had! (this almost trumps the cons)

Cons:
IT SQUEAKS!!!! Starting squeaking exactly at the 2 week mark. Sadly, I will probably have to find a way to eliminate the squeaks, or return it....any ideas?
