5.0 out of 5 stars Mick Moss is a Genius, November 7, 2015

Just in time for fall, another Mick Moss (Antimatter) masterpiece.
Though not nearly as well known as he should be, I have been enjoying Antimatter since 'Planetary Confinement', and this is a great release. He (Moss) just continues on in the little dark niche he has quietly created.
I tend to like the more stripped, Dark/Folk tracks in their simplicity and there is more of that here than on the previous release, where he incorporated more of a band feel. There is some of that here as well, but its a more folk style base.
The production is better, he enunciates very clearly, so all the words are understood. But this has a more 'Leaving Eden' feel to it. some good hooks in tracks, memorable. But sad and haunting as always.
Black Eyed Man, Little Piggy, Hole, Comrades and Integrity are just instant Antimatter classics.
And 'Can Of Worms' is Excellent! What can be said? Perfect merger of Antimatter past and present.Great hook as well.
Mick Moss is a great songwriter. The electric stuff, violin and Female Vocals add some dynamics as well, but at the core are well written raw tracks.
This is just another solid release. Nothing more and nothing less. Fits the season in its melancholy vibe. Very rewarding if you have the patience for it.

Very solid, again, for one of the most underrated songwriters around at the moment. A must buy if you like any of their (his) releases.

** I highly recommend the 2 disc version. Disc 2 is an overview and audio track by track breakdown which is really cool and very interesting. NO DVD. Just Audio, yet very very good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very cool surprise, October 23, 2015
This review is from: Natural Causes (Audio CD)
Was a big Skrape fan, yeah seriously. Thought that band had some potential.Loved the Voice and heaviness.
This has that in droves. Only reason it doesn't get a 5 is because it isn't overtly 'original'. but the songs are really good. Great guitar sound, but not Mudvayne. Just solid, mid paced stuff with that Skrape-style melodic Choruses. Works well for me.
Hope it isn't a 1-off venture. bands need to be more patient these days if they want to get anywhere. But this is good. Crummy band name aside.
Really like this. Great Vox, clingy choruses and great heavy production. Very Good CD. Doesn't reinvent anything but you will probably come back for more if you like Skrape. Surprise of 2015.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, Doomy and Slighty Commercial.. Is that even Possible?, October 9, 2015
This review is from: Burn the Serum (Audio CD)
Excellent CD. Nice to see 'Razor and Tie' records taking a chance with other bands than run of the mill crap, standard rock.

Im not gonna break this down, just think Heavy KYUSS meets Volbeat sound. Kyuss because of the stoner metal production, Volbeat because of its freshness and clear vocals, and most importantly, the standard Black Sabbath influence for this doom influenced style. Nice bass sound, not over-complex production and the vocalist is reminiscent of the style that Ozzy added to Sabbath, not so much in tone, but making them sound unique. Good, clear vocalist with a slight Chris Cornell feel.
This CD has its catchy moments as well, 'Electric Halo' and 'Paper Heart Rose' could have crossover to mainstream back in the day..
Best Tracks: Title track, Self Medicated Man, The Ode, Lost One, Faraway, In the Land of Pigs and Sunday Smile. These are some excellent songs. Driving, fresh and kick as*.

The others are decent, but not quite as good. Though 'Big Ugly Me' is pretty damn good too.

Really like this band. I will buy their last CD now as well.
Very, very good CD and sound. Be interesting to watch their development further..

4.0 out of 5 stars The same chords, but strangely excellent, September 25, 2015
This review is from: Unholy Terror (Audio CD)
W.A.S.P. were never the next coming of Zeppelin, but the 3 chord wonder that is Blackie Lawless always had some good bullets. Yes there were weak albums like 'Inside the Electric Circus' and 'Heldorado', but there are also very good CD's like the debut, 'Headless Children', 'Babylon' and this. Considering the band was very limited in terms of staying out of the basic WASP sound, this CD was really damn good.. I still listen to it when I'm in a WASP mood.

If you like the band then buy it. You know what its gonna sound like, but this is a nice, heavy CD that has a good flow. Raw production in spots and is really good. One of their better CD's. Seriously.

Like Heavier W.A.S.P.? Just buy it. Raw Lawlessness. Good stuff

Geez. can this guy do no wrong? What a great follow up. Smoking. Grab it. Great hooks, great playing. Mark Tremonti is the epitome of class and a great Guitarist. These songs do him justice. his solo Material is excellent. Yes heavy, but still the choruses make it versatile. A heavy introspective album.
How anyone can give 1 star is on drugs. Though production-wise it is a bit 'loud'.
Buy it.
I took a while to listen. but man, this is a great CD.

Absolutely intriguing and proficient. This CD is sick! Drummer, Guitar and Bass all in a different stratosphere yet amazingly tight and brutal. Players should be totally intrigued at this musical journey and prog metal/avant-garde fans will be intrigued. Time changes, solo's and just pure mayhem are released. Just like the debut yet more intense. Amazing musicianship on display throughout.
Believe it. buy it. True avant-garde stuff here. Very entertaining overall.
You will be awed

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Consistent, August 1, 2015

This review is from: VII: Sturm Und Drang (Audio CD)
Must agree with everyone on this one. best since 'Sacrament' and it is more consistent. Only 1 track doesn't do it for me, whereas the last 2 had a few on each that seemed like filler. Great great drumming on here throughout. Check out 'Footprints' and 'Engage the War Machine'. Great stuff. Superior drumming AND Guitar grooves throughout. PLUS some good melody lines in the choruses, subtle but they sink in. Each track has a purpose and Blythe's Vocals are brutal as always.

Only minus is the track 'Overlord'. Its ok, but somewhat odd with the clean Vox (which are pretty average) and mid tempo, grungy melody. I will skip that one often though It kicks in late, but I'm sleeping by then. OK song but wish it wasn't in the middle of the disc.

But I can delete it from media player and move on, so no big deal in an otherwise pretty flawless CD.
Much better than last 2.
Excellent return. Buy it. Nuff said..

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Saint CD. Good rebound from 'LaRaza', June 2, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Win Hands Down (Audio CD)
I wasnt big on LaRaza.. had a few moments but overall felt bland and all over the place musically. like the songs weren't fine tuned before release, which was odd for such a good band. I have been a Saint fan since 1985, so it was an odd album in my eyes, even though 'Loose Cannon' and 'Left Hook..' were excellent.

Well THIS is a better return to form for the saint. Sounds like a mix of 'Symbol of Salvation' and 'Revelation'. Much better sounding, much better vibe and flows extremely well. Bush is in fine form. Musically adventurous without taking away from the base sound. This is a near great Saint CD. Granted, its not like 'classic' Saint' with Pritchard, but it works.

A couple tracks are on the fence, not 100% perfect (especially 'Mess'. Almost lost a star for that mess..., and 'Dive' is an ok, prog attempt), but the majority are strong. The title track smokes and the semi-ballad 'In an Instant' is great. Well sung, excellent soloing, and adventurous for the Saint, so it balances.
'Up Yours' is killer, classic style Saint. Ends the disc strongly.

Just wish it had a couple more tracks that really kill, but whatever. It gets the 4 stars because its that much better than LaRaza and I have a soft spot for these guys. But i will admit it isn't classic saint quite yet. A couple tracks are eh....

If you liked them years ago, buy this and enjoy Hard Rock/Metal the way it should be done. Forget about LaRaza if you weren't swept of your feet. This is a strong effort and would sound great blasting out some car windows this summer. The band sounds refreshed and serious again about making the Saint top priority and not just a fun side thing while doing other projects.

Saints still conquer, but still witing for that knockout punch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do yourself a Favor. BUY THIS, April 28, 2015
Essential purchase for any Rock/Hard Rock/ Hair Metal (though I hate that term)/Classic Rock fan. Y & T were one of THE best and most under appreciated rock acts in the 80's. This set of their key releases on A&M is spectacular and well worth up to $50. Its going much cheaper. I mean this is 7 CD's worth of material. No one has an excuse not to grab this. These are the bands best albums, though i did enjoy the Geffen years stuff as well (Contagious and Ten), these are the main courses for the bands career.

If you are searching Y&T you know what they are all about anyway. Just great Guitar driven rock, some excellent, quality ballads and some smokin' Guitar solo's by Meniketti. The best of this lot is a tough call, their first 4 albums were great, The live set (Open Fire) is excellent, but the great BBC show was a special surprise add on. Probably the worst is 'Down for the Count', though it still has some quality tracks. Great music and memories lie in this set.

In short, be glad you came across this package, as I was. Though these albums have been reissued, when I got this a few years ago these albums domestically were pretty hard to find. Though this is an import, it is readily available and affordable. in fact, a steal. But if you haven't purchased these classics, now is the time.

Side Note:
ONLY pet peeve to this set, for me, is that someone in the editors office doesn't have an eye or is just plain stupid.. They have 'Rock and Rolls Gonna Save The World' as the 10th track on Mean Streak instead of the 1st track on 'In Rock We Trust' where it belongs, on the back artwork track listing. Also, the front cover doesn't mention 'Open Fire' with the other album titles, though it is clearly pictured on the back and is included. Things like this really bother me. This is a career spanning retrospective and they should have caught these clear errors. That's just plain messy and cheapens it a tad. Annoys me for some reason. I mean how many eyes saw this before it was released and still no one caught either thing?
But that doesn't take away from anything within. Just is ridiculous in my opinion.

100% Buy.

Short and sweet....

Surprisingly good return to form for Live.. new singer works and isnt too far from Ed's style.. Old fans like myself will love it. Ed fans only will diss it.
BUT its a solid rock CD with good hooks.. Pick it up if you liked them years ago and missed their rock sound. You'll be glad you did.
