4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, April 17, 2007
I really like this book for the fact that although i do not use polyclay often, this books ideas on color, scheme, and technique can work for most media. i thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy but savor it mostly for the secret recipes on coloration. i would recommend this book for all involved in visual arts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much More !!, January 23, 2007
when i ordered this book it was because suz simantis's name was on the cover. when i got the book yesterday, at first i was a little disappointed because i thought it was more of a "how-to" book of techniques and projects.

Boy was i wrong! i spent the entire night reading this terrific book! it was so much better than a tech book full of projects! it really spurred me on to think of the many excuses that i come up with why not to do art and really puts them into perspective. there are a few projects to do and they were fun, especially julianna coles postcards, but i really got a lot of inspiration reading this book and i picked up my journal for the first time in about 7 months!

this book is well worth the investment and will be on my bookshelf for many years!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration and Techs Galore!, January 16, 2007
I love this book! The incredible amount of techniques are so well described and demonstrated with photos and the examples are wonderfully delicious eye-candy! This book is titled for ATC's but the applications are so well done they could easily be used for many different media. I love the entire book so much that I purchased another copy for a desk reference because the first one I purchased is already stained, dog eared, and tattered from all the playing that Bernie Berlin inspired!

Thank you for this book Bernie, it was well worth the wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars teach an old dog to stitch!, January 18, 2006
This review is from: Paper, Metal & Stitch (Paperback)
i really thought that despite the beautiful cover and the name Maggie Grey, as she is quite the name when fabric is around, this book would be eye candy but not inspiring for me to "work on".

oh boy was i wrong! Ms. Grey's techniques for changing paper to metal and metal to stitch is quite fun! i thoroughly enjoyed just savoring every page the first time around and then i started actually playing. this is a terrific book for inspiration, teaching, learning, doing, and of course, her handiwork is quite the eye candy. i will have this book on my shelves for many years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars art candy extraordinare, January 9, 2006
this book is awesome! i purchase this book thinking that i would like only the projects as the idea of carving my own stamps did not appeal to me. WRONG--i had just started looking at the carving technique ms. page reviews and i picked up a piece of rubber and within 30 minutes had 2 of my own stamps carved quite well! she reads like she speaks and the photos and step by step instructions are easy to follow. the projects are beautiful and i look forward to carving for many a year. highly recommend this book to all crafters of any type who want to put there personal stamp on their work!

5.0 out of 5 stars she does it again!, January 4, 2006
a second book is always a scary endeavor, especially with the first book being such a success. as the date approached for ms. perrella's new book to be released, the excitement of anticipation began. this book is awesome! a fine follow-up for the first book and more indepth information for those using her books as learning tools. i can hardly wait for book number 3! way to go!!

4.0 out of 5 stars celebrate PAINT, October 28, 2005
i thought this book to be somewhat hard for the "non-painter" to grasp yet the exercises were lovely. i did this with a friend, a non-painter and she is a very creative soul, however this did not suit her needs and for that i am very sorry.

having all of my art being self-taught, i was more able to grasp what Ms. Beam's exercises were alluding to, however, i really wanted to share this with a girlfriend and not a painterly one.

great read though, and Ms. Beam's time was definietly well spent on this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars creative urges, October 28, 2005
this book is great for the cards and images associated with the cards. i found the exercises a bit simple at first but the more i did of the cards the deeper i had to dig and the more i was able to mine from this wonderful book.

highly recommend for the "beginner" creative seeker. this would definitely be the book i would suggest before sending someone on "the artist's way" as it is a much less rigorous (spelling bee) creative grabber but an excellent beginning.
