1.0 out of 5 stars Whoa, $33 for Kindle version? 4-Volume 1600 pages Designers & Dragons was only $15., September 10, 2014
Disappointed by some publishers continued attempts at a money grab at the expense of kindle readers. All of the previous RPG history books have been surpassed by Shannon Applecline's Designers & Dragons 4 volume set. I recommend these to any readers that are curious about the true origins of RPGs and specifically Dungeons and Dragons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Donaldson's BEST since The Wounded Land., November 1, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A little history first, I read Lord Foul's Bane in 1978 when I was 14. It was the first "adult" novel I ever read. So Donaldson has always been "my favorite author". I blazed through Lord Foul's Bane, The Illearth War, and The Power That Preserves and was totally blown away. The story that I could see, smell, hear, touch, and feel cemented a love for epic fantasy that endures today. When I finished his first trilogy, I needed to know if there was going to be more. So I did what any 14 year old with no respect for privacy did, I dialed New Mexico information and got Mr. Donaldson's phone number (his city and state were in the bio, and he had never unlisted his number). He answered the phone himself and was extremely kind despite my intrusion into his personal life. He answered a couple of questions I had about the books and informed me that yes, the story would continue. I ended the call thinking, "Wow, he is cool". The next book, The Wounded Land would become my favorite of all.

Possible spoilers, so stop here and just accept my 5 star rating and read the book.

The first 3 books of The Last Chronicles was a rough ride for me. It was hard to get into the flow. No Covenant, a fake Covenant, then a crazy Covenant, and lots of new characters that had the value of Jar Jar Binks. If you are a Linden fan, you were probably quite happy with Last Chronicles, but for me, the books have always been about Covenant and the Haruchai. So mix in the Haruchai that run around and call themselves "Masters" and don't act like the Haruchai we have known for thousands of years in The Land and an absent Covenant, I started to lose faith in the story.

With The Last Dark, the story tightens up. The numerous Jar Jar Binks characters are gone. The glory of the Land even in the time of darkness shines as Donaldson unleashes a roller coaster ride featuring Covenant, Linden, Haruchai, Giants, Ranyhyn, Ravers, the Lurker, the Sarangrave, Ur-viles, Waynhym, Lord Foul, and the Krill of Loric Vilesilencer. So in the words of Saltheart Foamfollower, "I have beheld a marvelous story".

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously?, November 12, 2012
Great content, and the author is very responsive to any communications. Hope the Kindle price becomes more realistic in the future. I own both the paper and kindle version of the second edition but a $30-$40 digital price is ridiculous and kills any desire I have to update my copy.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great book until Chapter 20.. If you are a Mac user, just toss the book in the trash after Chapter 19., September 13, 2012
A great book until Chapter 20.. If you are a Mac user, just toss the book in the trash after Chapter 19. You will need some windows tools that don't work on the Mac making it impossible to finish the book.. a shame..

1.0 out of 5 stars Cannot be read on Kindle 2, December 8, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Beware. The other reviews for this are apparently for the paper version. This book CANNOT be used on a Kindle 2. The verb tables are microscopic and the font CANNOT be changed for the tables since they are made to fit on one page.

1.0 out of 5 stars $14.99? Consider WSJ Cancelled!, May 23, 2009
I thought long and hard about the WSJ before ordering.. What we are getting barely justifies the $9.99 price. Now they want $14.99.. I am done. CANCELED!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Book for Independent Study, August 3, 2008
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"Para a frente" does not include the answers to the book's practice exercises. This makes it useless for independent study. I wrote Linguatext and they said there was no answer key nor professor's textbook. So basically, if you want to know how you did in the book's exercises, you need to find a portuguese teacher and bother them to check your work. Textbooks without answer sections should state this deficiency clearly. Cannot recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars May work on an average frustrated chump but not high value guys.., January 7, 2008
If I ever sniff out a chick following a "planned strategy" or seemingly intentionally being disinterested, she gets tossed. No guy with any type of game should accept any drama. For you girls that rock the boat, thats the easiest way to fall out of it or get kicked out of it.

Nice try, but girls need to trust their instincts, not the advice of an author no self respecting guy would even date.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Good Start for Beginners!, December 24, 2007
Rosetta Stone Brazilian Portuguese is a perfect place to start for beginners. Do not pay heed to the Maurice's review. As you can see by his review, he needs to learn his native language of English BEFORE attempting to learn a foreign language. Rosetta teaches the language through immersion and association NOT through translation. If you want to translate, buy a dictionary. Use Rosetta to build your vocabulary and then find a brazilian to practice speaking..

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of all Thomas Covenant books., April 7, 2007
Covenant finally shoulders the responsibility for The Land's survival and sheds the anti-hero persona that we found irritating. He is a hero in every sense of the word starting in The Wounded Land.
