3.0 out of 5 stars OK, Doubtful this is OEM, October 20, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This unit does fit my Kitchenaid (Whirlpool), but when comparing it to the original unit, I doubt this is an OEM product.

In short, if I needed to buy an ice maker again, I would either spend the big dollars to be sure to get an OEM unit or buy the cheaper units that do not claim to be OEM.

Here is a brief list of what's different between the original unit and this product...

Original: 3 watt motor.
This product: 1.5 watt motor. A less powerful motor may fail sooner.

Original: Teflon coated.
This product: Appears to be painted.

Original: Fins (heat sink)which helps it make ice faster.
This product: No fins, which does make it lighter and a little smaller

The original unit has a slightly larger heating element than this product.

It appears that all the parts are interchangeable. In my case, the original unit's heating element burned out. So I replaced it with this product's heating element without any problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great, until the drive gear shatters, September 7, 2006
As other reviewers, we loved this blender until it broke. It was quiet, powerful, simple to use, and looked great. The food processor was the perfect size, and very useful.

The only complaint in using it was the base unit on the blender jar was hard to get off at times. Also, the plastice silver coating was wearing off.

After 1.5 years of moderate use (mainly smoothies), the plastic gear connecting the motor to the blender shattered. Luckily we bought ours at a retailer that we could return it to.

If Cuisinart ever fixes this defect issue, we would definitely buy it again. Until then an expensive Osterizer is working well for us.
