2014 Charcoal Weekly/monthly Planner 5 X 8
2014 Charcoal Weekly/monthly Planner 5 X 8

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice little daily planner, March 31, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Perfect size for sitting next to my laptop and writing notes and to-do lists. There's enough space to write daily appointments and things to do, and doesn't take up too much footprint on my tiny desk. It's just slightly larger than a regular sized paperback book.

It has a monthly calendar for the really important stuff like your larger goals, a couple of pages in the back for notes, and then the daily layout for a whole week on two facing pages. Each of the months is tabbed, so if you close it, it's easy enough to find your place again.

The wire binding allows the pages to turn easily, and you can open it up to one page at a time and fold it back on itself without a problem. If you plan on doing a lot of traveling with it, the wire binding is not protected, so would get bent out of shape. For sitting on a desk, it's not a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous scissors for kitchen, crafts or metalsmithing, March 31, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I actually use these scissors for metalsmithing, because they cut wires and bezel sheet better than the super expensive shears made for metalsmithing. These are for light duty, 20 ga. nonferrous wire and 24 ga. nonferrous sheet are about the max. The throat isn't very deep, but because they are so sharp, it's not much of a problem. For cutting your own bezel wire, you can't beat it--super straight, no curl over on the edge, shears very well.

This is my second pair, because my husband used my first pair for cutting out the fins and flashing of a radiator, and pretty much ruined them. However, he liked them because he could get them into the tiny spaces. However, if this is your intention--BUY YOUR OWN PAIR!

My second pair is off limits. Eventually I might find someone who can actually sharpen shears properly and have my first pair resharpened. Although they work well enough for kitchen use, it would leave my 2nd pair open to my husband snitching them again, since I keep my bench neat and tools in their place.

They're well worth the $20 for a really superior pair of scissors that have sharp points. They'd be great for disjointing chicken, or other uses in the kitchen as their intention, but they're also handy for a tool bench or as craft scissors.

3.0 out of 5 stars For advanced beginners, January 19, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was kind of disappointed. I know and use many of the techniques, but there were several I was hoping to get additional information on. For those techniques I'm familiar with, I can honestly say that it's very light in technique, with only a broad overall view of what should be done. Don't expect any explanation of why you're using a specific tool, any kind of troubleshooting guidance, and unless you have a background in the techniques already, this book is only an introduction. It's on the level of Tim McCreight's original book on jewelry making.

It does have very nice illustration, some serious eye candy, and it has a great section on stones. The stones section gives you the basic properties of the stones, what you should be aware of when setting or cleaning them, trouble areas or treatments that will affect its use in jewelry. The stones section is a very nice compilation.

If you want serious instruction in stone setting, try John Cogswell's book on stonesetting , or Blaine Lewis' videos. Both of those are excellent. There may be others that I haven't come across yet, but those two are pretty sure bets.

This will work OK if you're a teacher and you want to use this as a reference, but if your students are relying on this alone to learn stonesetting, expect a lot of frustration and ill set stones.

UPDATE:
In addition to the two mentioned above, Gemstone Settings by Anastasia Young is another that is good, with tips that help you to succeed in doing a new style of setting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Family Friendly, January 19, 2014

This series is one that the entire family can enjoy. There's nothing overtly sexy, rude or bad language. The humor is cute, there are situations that need resolution, the actors are good in their roles. It's a safe bet series, that you wouldn't feel bad watching it with either your grandchildren or your mother-in-law.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remote control for Panasonic Lumix FZ-150, January 19, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It took awhile to figure out how to make it work, because the instructions suuuuuuck. If you need troubleshooting help, go through the reviews, and I thank those that took the time to tell what made it work for them. In a nutshell:

1. Make sure the camera is off, plug in the cables, turn on the camera, turn on the remote that's attached to the camera, turn on the remote transmitter.
2. Make sure the cable is plugged into the correct receptacles. The right angle end goes to the camera; the straight end goes to the receiver.
3. Make sure your batteries are in the correct way.
4. Make sure the jumper switches in both the transmitter and receiver are set correctly.

After that, everything's hunky-dory and it works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Do Art or Craft Fairs..., January 12, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
...you need this. This addresses how to get rid of the scum suckers that come into your booth, discouraging real buyers from looking at your work and buying it. This is how to handle those situations with grace, when all you want to do is to rip their heads off. Boot those weasels out of your booth!

I've followed Luann's blog, and her columns in The Crafts Report Magazine, for years. First, she's funny. Second, we've all been there and know what she's talking about. Finally, she gives you real solutions learned from many years of being on the circuit. Even if you're a veteran (groan), there's still material you'll find useful, and will make you laugh. You'll come across stories that will leave you laughing until you can't catch your breath, and saying to yourself, "Why didn't I think of that?"

This is a little gem you won't regret getting for yourself, or as a gift to someone who does a show circuit, selling at fairs, festivals and art shows.

Oh, and there's going to be a follow up book on how to sell effectively, meeting your customers' expectations, and learning how to let your positive energy flow.

Yup, I love Luann!
(P.S. I'm not related to her and she doesn't know me from a hill of beans. I also don't get any money out of this fantastic review.)

Maytag had to get creative with solid state internals, they don't hold up!!! This was the third one. Subbed out Panasonic junk made in Thailand. I'm going to try a universal motor, it is costing too much to lose food with such an unreliable system.

2.0 out of 5 stars sorta fits, July 22, 2013

Pump is about 1/2" longer than the old one, had to force it into position. Supplied "0" ring doesn't fit well, too long. Could have used a new rubber bushing for base. I wonder if this fitment is correct.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheaply made, June 23, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a cheap knockoff that's of terrible quality. It's single wall, not double wall, so no ice chipping in it. The lid that came with it didn't fit, even though it came as a unit. I can buy a whole new Oster blender for what I paid for this replacement jar. I'd send it back, but it costs half again as much as I bought the replacement jar for. I liked the blender I had, which is why I was investing for a new replacement jar. I paid $20+ for the jar, to return it cheapest way is $9.90. I'm out $20 now, so time to cut my losses. Very disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not comfortable for arthritic hips, June 5, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This doesn't have memory foam, at all. It has high density foam. It contains some kind of gel beads for the insert, similar to what you'd find in a waveless water bed, but not as comfortable. It felt hard and uncomfortable for my hip, and I was actually more comfortable without it.

Rheumatoid arthritis can make even the skin hurt, and even the slightest pressure can be excruciating, so keep this in mind if you're getting this cushion. It might work just fine for a typically sore bottom, but not an arthritic one.
