5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly better than Heavy Rain!, September 1, 2014
This review is from: BEYOND: Two Souls (Video Game)
Heavy Rain, the previous title by Quantic Dream, was a perfect game. Was it even possible to make a game that would make the same impression on player?

First, it was a good move to start a game story with a character and storyline that was independent from Heavy Rain. The main character is Jodie, a girl with strange gifts. Very early in her life, all kind of dangerous characters are interested in using them for their own gain, and Jodie passes through all kind of trouble trying to put her life together.

Story follows Jodie's life through different episodes that are not put in chronological order. Story is quite linear, but gameplay is very entertaining. It gets darker and more emotionally difficult to follow as it unfolds, but it also has a welcome dose of humour.

Graphically, game is on par with Heavy rain, and, even better, game takes you to various places, from urban jungle through desert through science fiction like places.

Along with Heavy Rain, this game is one of few hits on PS3 that brought out something other than graphical improvement. It is very similar to Heavy Rain, but, on the other hand, story and gameplay are improved, and I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't just HR clone.

4.0 out of 5 stars This game has the nicest, cutest colours and graphics of it's age!!!, September 1, 2014
It is short, yet very playable. Boss fights can be real difficult, even much before main showdown, yet some other levels are quite easy.

I just love how some characters are both repulsive and attractive, and I recomend this game to everyone!!! It is one of the nicest gaming experiences on it's generation. If main boss fight hadn't been so difficult and demanding, I'd have given it 5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars step by step with no in depth explanation. very superficial, February 24, 2014
This book gives you basic knowledge and skills for graphic design, logo making, photography correction etc. You can start from the beginning and follow step by step tutorial. That concept is okay.

What is NOT okay is that there is NO statement at the beginning of sub chapters about what is the aim of the processing that is about to be described further on. What I also dislike is that explanation about why is this or that applied is missing.

There are just steps listed one below another and no explanation for them, as if this was a cookbook or some kind of algorytm where the reader is computer . Very often, some important detail is missing so this leads to frustration OR endless googling and youtubeing in order to find what to do to get the last picture you have at the end of the chapter.

Suma summarum, save money to pay your friend graphic designer for classes and ask about what you want or need to know.

4.0 out of 5 stars THE 2d fighter, December 16, 2013
I played Tekken 6, Tag Team and Virtua Fighter online. I also tried Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Street Fighter Vs Tekken and Street Fighter 4.

Considering 3d games, Virtua Fighter was a delight, while Tekken 6 and TTT 2 were real good, although I hated juggle system and being kicked around like a soccer ball.

Considering 2d games, Street Fighter V Tekken was major dissapointment, just like SF IV. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 was okay, but didn't do it for me. I guess I hated that "get low kicked and then lifted in the air" system, since that was easy way for me to loose.

So here I decided to get King of Fighters XIII. It is 2d game and characters are 2d. Some people say it is archaic, but try playing some 3d after this and you'll see how much smoother moves and motion are and how 3d games make every character look more rigid. Matter of taste, though.

KoF has four keys, unlike SF series, but you can do much more. I'd like to emphasize importance of rolling, which makes it easier to avoid getting killed in corner. On the other hand, there is no blocking while jumping. Matter of taste, again.

Give this game a go. Fun, cheap and, most important, there IS always someone online, which can't be said today for MvC3, which was sold at arm and a leg price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Thanks god for examples based on contemporary programming, May 17, 2013
This review is from: Head First C (Paperback)
I used this book as refresher, since I worked with C but didn't remember many things because it was so long ago.

Book has some really great examples and some bad ones, in my opinion. What's important is that it refers to some things like using the | operator, server and client mechanisms, threading and so on.

I was, frankly, sick of writers who start with bubble sort or something from seventies.

This book improves your C skills but also mentions processors and describes how memory is organised, in such a way it can be used as nice introduction to some basic issues from electrical engineering and computers in general.

1.0 out of 5 stars No more online play (=no fun), June 21, 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
I bought this game for same reason I get all fighters - online playing. It was fun for a while but then I tried to log on one day and there was message from EA that network play is no more because of some reason they think is viable.

First they made fans unable to get used copies and then they just remove server? PLEASE, Tekken 6 is years old and still well and alive and enjoyable to play online, and you say there is no more online play for EA MMA? Why did you put PSN logo on the box then?

1.0 out of 5 stars Online all the time?, May 30, 2012
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
I really hate this Orwellian 1984 concept applied here as copy protection. How do I know I can believe that nobody will invade my privacy since I am giving away access to my computer by accepting terms of game?

I'd buy this game if I had gaming-only computer, I don't care if someone browses through list of my games, but I don't even wanna give someone opportunity to read my mails...wish there was Diablo III for Playstation 3.

Single player games SHOULD be made for offline playing!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars tekken characters used in inferior designed game, May 20, 2012
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
I played this game after MvC3 and have to say that Tekken 6 is ONLY online fighter on PS3 worth your money.

Characters from Tekken don't even have same moves like they do have in Tekken 6. Don't even think about sidestepping. Don't think about Paul being serious, well rounded contender. You will NOT see some characters like Brian here neither. Tekken characters mostly just look the same, they don't play same.

Street fighter characters have that fireball attack and are much more well rounded. But hey, it's Capcom 2D game mechanics from 1994, not Namco. Capcom never even thought about putting roll escape a la King of Fighters into their games. If you're cornered you can die real easy.

All in all, this is yet another brand exploitation and fan base milking attempt. There will probably be director's cut version of game in 6 months, and then another. I respected Capcom, they were inovators and quality game designers. Their Resident Evil on PS one is still much more enjoyable than their newest and flashiest ones. They are not same people more :( Dishonest business policy, that's how you call it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deep knowledge, shallow writing skills, March 1, 2012
ARM is third processor I am dealing with during my 12 year old career. I worked on ADSP, Texas MCP and now ARM.

Please don't start reading about ARM with this book. It is retold user manual.

Please read Steven Furber's book, since he explains logic behind design.

Yiu explains elements and mechanisms formally, by giving you all possible cases and signal diagrams. It is more like swarming you with data from data sheet without telling what is logical meaning behind architecture.

Like title says, Yiu HAS knowledge, this book has no mistakes, but it is simple not enough because you have to analise things by yourself to find meaning and cold hard facts are sometimes enough for that and sometimes not.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Commodore 64 game mechanics in 3D, May 26, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Street Fighter IV - PC (DVD-ROM)
This is yet another game that just got picked from nineties, upscaled and put on shelves. I even preferred Street Fighter Alpha series ( being more inovative ) to this thing. No sidestepping, still same six-button layout and really not much to offer to old fans.
