4.0 out of 5 stars Not riot gear., June 2, 2016
This would be appropriate for small household projects. It did not, however, hold up to the protesters and their bricks. Poor riot gear, 3M.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says it will do, October 30, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've used for about 30 days now. It comes with instructions for internal threads or external threads, and I fitted it to our faucet within one minute. So far it does exactly what it advertises: water flow control without leaks. Great product for the price!

I don't understand why North Korea had such a problem with this. This was mostly about Australia.

This is a fantastic treatment of a subtle Biblical theme. Very eye-opening; I reference it often.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should be called: dysfunctional upbringing produces dysfunctional memoir, May 5, 2013
Author admittedly has a terrible family background, but instead of writing a thoughtful and helpful book, she writes a confusing venting session (probably cathartic for her, but a waste of time to the reader).

In it, she rages against church, men, and family to try to win back what was lost in her own childhood. She ends up with an ethereal form of "spirituality" that is far different than everyone else's versions of religion and God and leaves any church that has truth claims (you're over 40 and you're latching on to hipster spirituality?).

There are good versions of this memoir and good versions of advice for dysfunctional/abusive backgrounds. Buy one of those, because this is a poor treatment of both.

The Purity Myth: How America’s Obsession with Virginity Is Hurting Young Women

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to take Valenti seriously, May 4, 2009
Controversial content aside, it was difficult to take this book seriously. Valenti is essentially decrying something of which she has no knowledge.

How would she know if it is difficult for a teen girl to choose abstinence? She states that she began her sexual activity at 14. Thus, when she attacks the character of people who remain abstinent, I begin to smirk and I feel justified.

It would be no different than a hyper-conservative virgin attacking those who engage in sexual activity, would it?

Since the topic is so sensitive (and therefore every review will be biased - i.e. the feminist left will adore it and the conservative right will be appalled), we can only review her content.

That said...she does a wonderful job diagnosing the moral landscape of teen America. I also applaud her research in an emerging field.

However, the majority of pages bleeds with a bias that she hasn't earned, since she is a proud non-virgin. She can't presume to know what the virgin experience of these teen girls feels like, can she?

To summarize, I was underwhelmed at her actual content, amused by the juxtaposition of her stance and her history, and I felt that the book would have made a far better journal article.
