The Shark Sessions
The Shark Sessions
by Ila France Porcher
Edition: Paperback
Price: $33.99
11 used & new from $32.98

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Kind of Shark Tail, December 8, 2014
This review is from: The Shark Sessions (Paperback)
The Shark Sessions, an enchanting yet tragic story of love and loss set in paradise itself, is fascinating and compelling, full of drama, and sprinkled with some humor. Ms. Porcher’s writing style is easy to read, her prose as vivid as her art. Opening in snowbound Canada, she quickly draws you into her adventure to Tahiti, and over the pages opens up a new world; a world that few have ever seen and even fewer have experienced in the way she did – the world of the shark.

Always before, the very mention of sharks has struck fear into my heart. The Shark Sessions has given me a new perspective, even as Ila France Porcher’s revolutionary research has shed new light on these misunderstood marine animals. Thanks to The Shark Sessions, I see that sharks are not creatures to fear but to respect and admire, and even pity as they fall prey to a cruel industry. A must-read for any fan of the sea!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ for anyone searching for spiritual truth...or thinks they already know it, July 26, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Mark Donnelly's Rude Awakening is a wake-up call for us all regardless of where we are (or think we are) in our walk with Christ. A deeply insightful, no-nonsense call to examine: our heart and life, how we're relating to God and others, the quality of the fruit we're bearing. It isn't just a call to examine, but a call to action. Are you really knowing Jesus or just going through the motions? Don't get to the gate and be left wondering where you went wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars The answer to my questions..., March 6, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was an essential resource from which I was able to glean enormous insight into the political fabric of Warlord Era China and weave some measure of historical accuracy into my latest novel, The Dragonfly Saga, Book 1: Green Pearl (currently available on Amazon). Region and Nation is a fascinating study of the turbulent polity of the time. Diana Lary's work shed light on and successfully untangled some of the knots of one of the most chaotic and complicated periods in Chinese history. Thank you Ms. Lary! What I learned from your in-depth study made my book much more than just a whimsical fiction of a time gone by. It helped me to write more believable characters with deeper motivations, to convincingly resurrect the bones of the past and make them flesh blood again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before the moon there was...., July 3, 2010
Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Moon is the fascinating account of a little noticed, yet essential part of the American space program. Told from the perspective of one of the "peons in the pits", Something Funny Happened on the Way to the Moon reveals an inspiring, never-before-seen side of the program. Having been a member of the team that built the Saturn V rockets used during the Apollo Program, Ms. Howard is an authoritative source on the greatest technological marvel in history.
Yet, this book is far more than a scintillating primer on the components that make space travel possible; it is a tribute to the 400,000 individuals who, together, made history by putting Americans on the moon. Without their expertise and hard work it could not have happened.
Thank you, Ms. Howard for sharing your remarkable story. This is truly "American history at its finest"!

5.0 out of 5 stars Shooting the rapids...surviving the raising, enjoying relationship, May 10, 2010
This book was a God send. Just when I see my daughter, Ali, growing to adulthood and my hope of having any kind of relationship with the woman she is becoming begin to fade, Mother-Daughter Duet shined a light on the end of the tunnel. Being presented from two sides, both mother's and adult daughter's, this book has given me valuable insight, not just into my daughter, but into myself. While I know we still have many more battles to fight, thanks to this wonderful portrait of a successful mother-daughter relationship, I have more hope than ever that my daughter and I can also have a great relationship in the future. Thank you, Cheri and Ali, for sharing your struggles and triumphs. You have equipped me and my Ali for success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Camelot reborn..., May 10, 2010
The Journal of an Unknown Knight by Jose Alejandrino
The Journal of an Unknown Knight is an inspiring portait of a man with an ideal and the moxy to pursue it, of a man in the right positions at the right times to have profound influence over his country's government and even world affairs. Mr. Alejandrino impressives, not only in how well his story is written, but in his unique vision of a world that should be Camelot and how skillfully he maneuvered behind the scenes attempting to make it so. His philosophy that "life is full of risks" and his efforts to overcome a "culture of fear" by fighting against corruption and making bold attempts to fix a broken system are nothing short of heroic in scope.
His story has everything: intrigue, revolution and redemption. Bravo, Mr. Alejandrino! Well done!

4.0 out of 5 stars Juliann Troi author of Where There Is No Comfort: Seven Days in Ethiopia, April 21, 2010
This review is from: Secular Truthfulness (Hardcover)
In his book, Secular Truthfulness, Hannah Orion seeks to examine and explain concepts of the Christian Bible, a work that has preoccupied and confounded the greatest of scholars, both religious and secular, since ancient times. As Mr. Orion quite accurately points out there is a "perpetual argument over the Word of God". Whether you agree or disagree with his assertions that God is nothing more than an inward religious self "delusion"adopted to make us feel better and which "inhibits reasoning", it cannot be argued that he presents his case thoroughly.
Secular Truthfulness is a well written challenge to Christianity that forces the reader to face and carefully examine the spiritual thirst inherent to mankind and how we go about quenching it. His theories are thought provoking to be certain and lead to a deep, fundamental questioning of what we believe and why. Faith, however, is a very personal journey and, while we must decide for ourselves what form and direction it takes, Mr. Orion's Secular Truthfulness certainly gives the subject a little push in an unexpected direction.
