The Murder Hole (A Jean Fairbairn/Alasdair Cameron mystery)
The Murder Hole (A Jean Fairbairn/Alasdair Cameron mystery)
Price: $3.99

5.0 out of 5 stars great atmospheric mystery, June 8, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For fans of Scotland this is a great mystery. The pov character, being an ex patriot American, does a good job of letting the reader drop into the world of modern Scotland. The mystery provides a good frame work for following the characters of Jean and Alasdair. As a mystery, the story unfolds logically without "cheats" being required for it to work. The supernatural elements play in nicely, adding interest without allowing the mystery to be solved by a gimmick.

4.0 out of 5 stars great coffee, April 28, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I got this to use at work and really like it. It makes great coffee and the selection of K-cups is great. Don't brew on the largest cup setting, however, as that is too weak. Just brew twice (with 2 k-cups) using the small and medium size instead. I've also found that after certain coffees (usually the ones with thick chocolate) I have to run a clear cleanning batch otherwise it clogs up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great resource, April 28, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Great resource on the historical development of the Alamo compound. I've used it when I give tours. Great paintings showing proposed layout of the mission days, through the battle era, and finally the aftermath when the US Army redid the buildings. I only fail to give it 5 stars because it's list of Alamo defenders is incorrect. It leaves out Micajah Autry.

2.0 out of 5 stars cheaply produced, April 28, 2014

Cheaply made, it's a general overview of village life in Anglo-Saxon times. Probably good for young school kids as an introduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars great version, April 28, 2014

This review is from: Beowulf (Paperback)
Glover has edited Beowulf into a shorter version that directly sticks to the linear story of Beowulf's adventures. It was designed as his one-man show of Beowulf. It's a great edit and I recommend purchasing Glover's mp4 of his performance to go with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not Superman, April 28, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm glad they named it "Man of Steel" because it's not Superman. In trying to create a darker version of Superman, Zack Snyder has forgotten the core values of the character. Forget Truth, Justice, and the American Way. It's more "let them die so people don't find out who I am." At the end, in order to defeat General Zod, Kal-el must break the number one core value of Superman. This isn't Superman, he's not even dressed like him (the costume was changed so DC/Warner wouldn't have to pay the Siegel and Schuster estate which owns the costume trademark).

5.0 out of 5 stars It heals!, April 28, 2014
Reading this book not only gave me a new outlook on religion, but it healed my ingrown toenail! Seriously, I've had a severe ingrown toenail ever since my days in high school marching band 38 years ago. Over the years I've learned to live with the pain, and to carve wedges from balsa wood to insert into my shoe to mitigate the pain (helped by some seconal acquired from a friend in the parking lot behind the mall). After reading the first half of the book, I noticed the constant ooze of pus from the toe had abated. By the time I had finished it, I no longer felt pain, the toe was not inflamed, and I could tap dance at last (since I didn't know how to tap dance before, this may also be a miraculous side-effect of the book). Please, if you have a loved one with podiatry problems that have remain untreated, have them read this book!

Simply Math: A Comprehensive Guide to Easy & Accurate Chart Calculation

Price: $31.81

4.0 out of 5 stars good math guide, February 14, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A very good guide to doing the math needed for astrological work. My only complaint is that I still can't understand the calculation of the ACD. Otherwise, it explains everything very well, giving you plenty of examples to work through and end of chapter exams. Probably the best textbook for learning the mathematics of astrological calculations.

2.0 out of 5 stars good story, writing has problems, February 14, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's a good story, dramatizing the involvement of Karl Ernst Kraft and Louis DeWhol with their involvement in WWII using astrology. The book needed a good editor. It's arrangement is uneven. It's told in very short 2 page snippets from different POV, so that you're constantly changing who you're following, and that's very disruptive. Once you get interested in a scene, it changes to something different. The time setting also changes abruptly, making it difficult to follow the story. It needed a good editor that would make the author simplify his POV characters. There's also some historical errors, probably the worst being having the Nazi war-profiteer Prescott Bush depicted as a Senator. He didn't become a Senator until 1952, long after the war.

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost a good story, January 17, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: President's Astrologer (Paperback)
It was almost a good story, but the author made some mistakes in trying to set it slightly in the future. Even though this was written back in the early 90's I think, we still don't have monorails running around Washington, DC, nor are we likely in the future. The biggest problem was the science fiction element so important to the ending. It made it quite unbelievable (and I like SF, it was just out of place here). A real editor would have had her rewrite the book to be more of a thriller.
