5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous book..., August 15, 2010
A fabulous book if you love interiors, France, chateaux, watercolors and tales of Henry James' The Golden Age.
Matilda and Walter Gay knew James and Wharton and all the other 'grandees' of their time. And Walter painted the interior of their mansions in New York and Paris. Fun to see the many old photos with the watercolors side-by-side of those interiors-heavly illustrated in color.
Matilda Gay kept a diary of everyone who was anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this book!, June 30, 2010
They bring this book to your table in Paris, so you can pretend to be doing something while you secretly gaze at all the chic French tea drinkers..
Loaded with all kinds of esoteric of tea for the afficianado and the devotee.
And at last available for us in English to throw on our tea table and impress the heck out of our guests.
Actually a superb book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remembrances of Things Past..., May 30, 2010
A positively dreamy book - I found in the the Metropolitan Museum of Art bookstore and couldn't put it down - had to have it. It's not exactly a 'take with you to Paris' book. but you'll be taking your copious notes instead with all the inside leads and tips.
Nicely organized around groups of arrondissements rather than one by one, so you can create your own little day tours.
A MUST have in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Best Friend, May 29, 2010

Next to BEAR the Canon S90 is always with me.
And no one seems to notice, which works out perfectly for any Sherlockian sleuth. You will need to carry around a backup battery to be safe - not much of a hardship. A very easy to use camera that produces great pictures particularly if you don't use the flash.
Tremendous fun camera for the traveler.

Scrumptious and tempting altogether and makes me miss Moroccan cuisine very much.
BRAVO!

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Ready For Instant Drooling, April 27, 2010
This is the most gorgeous baking book I've yet encountered...
And the material is presented in a way a non-baker like myself would feel comfortable with.
Glorious desserts, many of them French, perfect for a Mad Hatter's Tea Party.
Hip-Hip-Hurrah! ! !

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Mother's day gift..., April 22, 2010
This review is from: My Mother's Clothes (Hardcover)
The perfect mother's day gift to yourself or your mom.
Touching, poignant, thought-provoking...
The pictures and words create a visual haiku..
Who does not remember the magic in their mother's clothing?
Our first introduction to the world of grownups.
Delectable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fabulous find!, January 26, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The recipes in this gorgeous hunk of a book many be limited to SEVEN pages,as another reviewer complains, but they are from the creme de la creme of Parisien pastry chefs and should not be discounted. Where else can you find recipes for Angelina's Mont Blanc, Fauchon's eclairs, Pierre Herme's Ispahan plus Gerard Mulot, Ble Sucre, Jean-Paul Hevin etc. translated into US measurements.
The book is one of a series put out by an expert team at Flammarion on gourmet shops in Paris. And it truly is a veritable feast for the eyes - the photography allows you to see detailed closeups the naked eye cannot take in.
Anyone who does not love this book, does not love Paris.

5.0 out of 5 stars The thinking person's guide to overeating and how to stop., November 28, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I lost 15 pounds whilst reading this book. Effortlessly. No scales. No diets. No feelings of deprivation. Kessler puts his salient points across with wit and a wisdom you can't ignored. Not if you have a brain in your head. He gets inside your shoes because he's been there. And it will keep working should you fall off the wagon. Just go back and immerse yourself again. This book can liberate you from food obsessions. Well that's what I think. I am not a relative.
THANK YOU David Kessler.

One of those books you wish would not end.
Amusing stories of day to day life in France for an American family with all it's ups and downs. But the writing is so engaging, I kept missing my stop on the subway and could have cared less. Just let me keep reading. I need more delightful books like French by Heart.
I am not a relative of the author either :)
