Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I had "the boys" use this in the garden for me. We have had so much rain lately, and it seems like the weeds have been having a party for themselves. They claim that it worked thoroughly where they used it, and I can certainly see the results. We've never used a Roundup product that didn't have good results! Good stuff!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Ed Sullivan Show Minus Ed Sullivan!, September 16, 2014
In truth, I can't quite make head nor tail of this thing. This is a long music video before music videos existed. There is some attempt of a plot framing it -- two blokes are rambling around town drinking and looking for girls (with little success.) A young guy working in a theater falls asleep while working. His friend is referred to as fat, but he isn't. The music ranges from a bit of British Invasion light, folk, almost jazz, English music hall, and others I am hard-pressed to label. A slick looking guy with overly-lubed hair sings a repetitive folk song, and suddenly girls are doing the twist around him, and seconds later the young guy in the theater is waking up while somebody quotes Shakespeare and something is said about unmarried fathers. Oh, there was also some peeking into what I think was the Playboy Club.

I found myself wondering if I was stoned.

If this description appeals to you, then you know who you are. Watch it or not, but if it makes more sense to you than to me, please write.

Danny Thomas Show: "Road to Lebanon"
Danny Thomas Show: "Road to Lebanon"
DVD ~ Claudine Auger
Price: $9.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Minus a Star for BLURRY Picture!, September 16, 2014
If you are a fan of Danny Thomas and old Road pictures, you will get a lot of laughs from this video. There is truly a lot of fun in this program -- even though our view of the region is now rather devoid of laughs. The "beauty contest" bit really cracked me up. (A lot of bitter irony here for women.)

Despite the blurry image, I highly recommend this video if you share my affection for early days of television, old movies, and vaudeville. Excellent entertainment -- all politically incorrect in this day and age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Childhood memories!, September 16, 2014
I feel sorry for people who didn't grow up seeing such productions on television! I'd forgotten how great early television was, when the entire family gathered around to watch the lone set in the house to watch world-class entertainers in their living room. Danny Thomas, who was always proud of his immigrant background, did I wonderful version of "America I Love You," representing a time when patriotism was not an offensive or one-sided thing.

The amazing Jane Powell did a great number that cleverly "summarized" all her dance techniques and famous performances that brought her such stardom.

The "vaudeville" sketch Danny Thomas does with June Havoc, in which she imagines that everyone sounds like a movie star is cleverly done, and the cast of characters playing delivery men, doctor, plumber, etc are amazingly good -- including Eddie Cantor!

There is a good deal of sophistication in this show, not to mention political incorrectness. How interesting that the "woman president" sketch says a lot to me even today -- and this was 1952! You will love the "interview" by the reporter from The Men's Home Journal!

I was especially satisfied that the original commercials were retained. If you are looking for a rollicking good time to share with friends and family, you'll find a lot of laughs and discussion generated by this episode of the "All Star Review: The Danny Thomas Show."

5.0 out of 5 stars Immensely Involving Reading Experience., September 16, 2014
This review is from: Positive: A Memoir (Hardcover)
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Page Rawls book would be enthralling enough if it was fiction. However, this is not fiction, but the story of this young woman's life. To say that this author's work is a survival story is only the beginning. Certainly, I have no love of bullies, but Positive: A Memoir, takes the particular skill of these sociopaths to a new level -- attacking a girl for being HIV positive. Of course, it would be bad enough for those with undeveloped brains to participate, but when it involves the develish handiwork of adults, and not just adults but those who would dare call themselves teachers and administrators, the mind reels and the stomach turns. When those in authority do not take a stand against bullying, it makes them active participants as well.

Positive: A Memoir should be required reading in every school in America. Brilliant and recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick and Inspirational Read!, September 15, 2014

If you are interested in learning more about the devotion that so many have to Saint Jude, The Saint of the Impossible: Everything You Wanted to Know about Saint Jude is most definitely the book for you. It is quite reader-friendly. The ancient history is presented in an entertaining manner. As for more recent times, I was delighted to learn about how so many famous people were also dedicated to Saint Jude, crediting the saint with helping them achieve the success that they prayed for and worked so hard to achieve. Most notable, of course, is Danny Thomas, who founded the famously charitable St. Jude's Hospital. Also listed and quoted are Minnesota Fats, golfer Bobby Nichols, Danny De Vito, and Jamie Farr. The author also tells a fascinating story about Greta Garbo "who is said to have searched New York churches for a statue of Saint Jude." Elvis Presley is also mentioned. You'll also enjoy reading the happy results reported by ordinary people.

No matter what your religious background, you may find what you are looking for in The Saint of the Impossible: Everything You Wanted to Know about Saint Jude. Satisfy your curiosity, find a new way to grow in faith, or learn from the history -- highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Replaced Every Other Car Charger We Have!, September 9, 2014
I was happy to receive a free TopG Apple Certified charger in exchange for an honest review. Let me tell you that we used this thing repeatedly before I was ready to write this review. We used it in two different cars and a rented van while moving a long distance. Usually, there are the constant discussions about who needs to charge which phone first, not to mention the ultra annoying but necessary GPS. This little charger was fabulously useful and I adore it. So far, it's running well -- but if anything ever happened to it I would immediately purchase the same item again.

Great item -- nicely designed and highly recommended.

Hey, Let's Twist
Hey, Let's Twist
DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars Much better than you'd expect!, September 9, 2014
I decided to watch Hey, Let's Twist for a few laughs at a dated dance film aimed at teenagers. What I got was something else entirely. Hey, Let's Twist has a lot going for it. If you grew up with immigrant parents or grandparents, you will most definitely relate to the family relationships. Surprisingly, this film was quite heartwarming and touching at times. If you are looking for even the suggestion of a sex scene, look elsewhere! This is strictly G-rated, and young love leads to the promise of marriage! There is respect for family, morality, education, and the value of friendship -- all in between dance scenes.

This is a low-budget film, but some of the acting was quite good despite a script that was weak in spots. 1961 was not just a different time, but a different world! This all took place before the hippie era began, and I'd actually forgotten how very different things were for the younger generation back then.

Make no mistake, this is no Gone With The Wind, but strictly on its own this is a stand-out of a film that I very highly recommend, especially for families to watch together.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 Stars for the Movie - 5 for Kevin Pollak!, September 8, 2014
If you are a nebbish of a high school student awash in a sea of snobby girls, snarky teachers, jocks, dorks, illiterates and strange cafeteria ladies, you'll sell your soul to Satan's loser of an assistant for the chance to date a beautiful girl! Once he makes the deal, is there a way out? It doesn't look too easy when Satan's assistant's assistant is looking for a way out as well.

Dennis Pollak is a fabulous stand out in this film, and he has made more than 60 of them! I highly recommend it if you are looking for a few Faustian laughs!

Plain Clothes

4.0 out of 5 stars Plain Clothes is Just Plain Funny!!, September 8, 2014
If you love 1980's teen comedies, you are going to love this one. A young cop who gets no respect from the hardboiled cops around him gets pushed into going undercover in high school because of an unsolved murder, he turns what seems to be another drag of an assignment into a golden opportunity for advancement and romance. Lots of big hair and hilarious 80's clothes added to my enjoyment, and there's lots of celebrity spotting of actors from old sit-coms and movies!

I definitely enjoyed every moment of Plain Clothes, no matter how silly. It's a bit disappointing that I'd never heard of this movie before I spotted it on Amazon.com! Lots of fun!
