5.0 out of 5 stars to better understand Burma, November 4, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This excellent book is best suited for those who have some curiosity about the various people of Burma and their religion, culture, history and place in our world. These subjects are capably presented in this book by using ethnic food as a vehicle for improved comprehension. The photographs and interspersed vignettes are compelling and the tested recipes offer considerable insight into the mostly subsistance lifestyle of the people of Burma.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great personal narrative of life in Alaska, September 4, 2012
This review is from: Clam Gulch: A Memoir (Paperback)
Scott Ransom writes about his early life in Clam Gulch with uncommon insight and passion as he gets fully immersed in the rigerous life of a lower Kenai fisherman. And then works as a travelling tax preparer for family fishing enterprises all over coastal Alaska. This is a great story about Scott's own sometimes risky and always interesting adventures in one of our country's last true wilderness areas. I spent quite a lot of time in Alaska at this time and I found Soctt's descriptions to be in depth correct as well as full of life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.....

4.0 out of 5 stars an excellent rice cooker, August 20, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As an engineer and late-in-life cook I expect excellent technical and practical performance from all of my kitchen appliances. This induction powered microchip logic rice cooker met all my expectations. It actually does make excellent white rice preparation as simple as setting the controls and pushing a couple of buttons. If you like things that work and don't mind spending a little time comprehending the instruction manual, this is a product you will appreciate. TK
