5.0 out of 5 stars Pay the extra money. It's worth it!!!, December 26, 2014
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THIS SCALE!!!!!!

I've owned many food scales. I have a graveyard of food scales (Ozeri, Taylor, whatever brand wal mart sells) that have all been fine for 6 months or so and then crapped out on me.

This scale is amazing. Display is bright and easy to read. Taring is easy, and switching between units is painless. My favorite feature is the surface is one seamless piece, making it extremely easy to clean (vs other scales which have many nooks and crannies that crumbs can hide in). It's also incredibly sexy looking (someone once asked me which Android tablet it was).

Owned this for a year and had no problems whatsoever. The 2 year warranty helps too. For anyone on the fence between this scale and a cheaper (<$20) scale, I highly recommend paying the extra money.

5.0 out of 5 stars The dress shoe to end all dress shoes: buy this shoe!, December 26, 2014
Sizing:
Best bet is to go to a Nordstrom or whatever store nearby that carries AE's and get sized by one of the sales reps. If you haven't bought a pair of nice dress shoes before, your actual size is very likely not the size you've been wearing this whole time. The next best bet is to visit the AE website and print out their sizing chart (basically a paper version of a Brannock device). It's pretty accurate as long as you follow the instructions and don't screw up the aspect ratio when printing. What not to do: "Oh, I wear a 10.5 in Nike so I'm probably okay with a 10.5 in AE" -> this will lead to disappointment and gnashing of teeth.

Quality:
Barack Obama and George Bush (it's even party neutral!) were inaugurated wearing Allen Edmonds. The quality speaks for itself. Say goodbye to your rockports put together by a 10 year old in the Phillippines!

Color:
If you can, always try to see the colors in person. YMMV but the colors on websites are almost always not what you think they are. For example, Bourbon looks great online but (in my opinion) looks sub optimal in person.

Pricing:
Yeah, it's expensive, but this will be the last pair of dress shoes you buy in (literally) decades if you take care of them right. <-this is a lie, after owning a pair you will probably buy many more

Summary:
You should buy this shoe if:
-You want an amazingly crafted shoe guaranteed to garner compliments wherever you go
-You want a shoe dressy enough to wear to a wedding but versatile enough to wear to happy hour after work
-You're tired of blowing $150 on mall brand shoes that fall apart after a year of wear

You shouldn't buy this shoe if:
-It wouldn't let you make rent

BUY THIS SHOE!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality - unparalleled. Price - questionable., July 8, 2012
There's not much to say about Gitman's shirts. Legendary construction, great details, high end fabric - "you get what you pay for" certainly applies to this shirt.

This shirt has lasted years and is made of a nice broadcloth that will probably outlive you. The fit is more tailored than most shirts, so be sure to do your research regarding how these fit. The armholes are slightly higher, and the "waist" of the shirt is narrower - this prevents the "billowing" that you see in most dress shirts. In terms of quality, this shirt easily gets 5 stars. Indestructible, relatively stain resistant, and stitched extremely well (compare to a shirt form the department store and you will easily see the difference). For fit, you'll be hard pressed to find anything better. Of course, the only kicker is price - $149 is a bit steep, but with increasing cotton and labor prices, this is to be expected. Buy 3 or 4 of these and expect to keep them for the rest of your life - it is well worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great looks, quality just OK, June 27, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this because it was one of few curtains that comes with the hooks (I don't know why they sell hooks and curtains separately)...this curtain has a nice contemporary look and brightened up the bathroom nicely. The hooks have individual wood block decals on them which make it look nicer. The curtain is just the right opacity (some white curtains can be a little "see through" - this does not have that problem).

There was only one downside that I'll point out: The hooks tend to fall out if you open or close the curtain too quickly. This was my biggest grip - I found myself constantly putting the hooks back in place - this is because the holes for the hooks are slightly too big, so the hooks can slip out more easily. However this isn't really a big deal, I learned to just open the curtain a little more slowly.

Overall, a really good value and does the job. I would still buy it again despite the hook problem, just because it's so affordable and looks good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, construction OK, June 27, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As others stated, this is only for use in the United States - if you're traveling, you'll need a converter.

I like that the plug folds in and out - makes packing it up very easy. Cord length is just right, and charges just as quickly as the original charger that comes with the DS. Only 4 stars because the construction is a bit cheap... I wouldn't expect this to last forever. For the price though you can't do much better than this! If you need a spare charger around the house for convenience's sake, this will do just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do your research, then buy this shoe!, June 19, 2012
The AE Park Ave is the perfect entry shoe for those looking to step up (get it?) their wardrobe. The burnished brown is probably the most versatile color that can be worn with any suit that's not black and also dressed down with denim. Make sure to purchase these from an authorized retailer like Amazon - don't go poking around Nord rack for these where you're likely to run into sub-par/second-quality shoes. AE's have a pretty sizeable following, so you'll also be able to find answers to almost any question with a quick search. A few notes:

Sizing: As with almost any dress shoes these will run about 1/2 a size large (ie if you wear 10.5 in Nike running shoes, you're probably a 10 in these). I can't stress enough the importance of doing the proper research and figuring out your exact size, including width. If you have to, go to the local shoe store and get measured (surprisingly...most guys don't actually know their true shoe size). Don't be tempted to compensate for width by sizing up. For example, if size 10E is out of stock, don't be tempted to order a 10.5D. You might be able to get away with this other makers, but it'll make a big difference to nail the sizing with these. They will be the most comfortable dress shoes you own. As the description says, the cork footbed will conform to your foot in a few weeks, and it'll feel like this shoe was made for your feet.

Durability: I'm a huge fan of brown dress shoes because they tend to develop beautiful patinas over time and simply age better than black shoes do. The Park Aves are no different here - you can find endless pictures on the internet of how well AE's age. The soles are welted so that when you do wear through them in a few years (and you will be wearing these a lot, trust me) you can get them recrafted by AE for $100 or so (you can also take it to the local cobbler). Basically these shoes will lost you a long, long time.

Care: these actually hold up really well without much babying, but if you're going to drop $300+ on shoes, you might as well take care of them. At the very least use cedar shoe trees (the kind with adjustable width) and brush/polish once a month or so. The AE website has sales on shoe care products pretty often that ship free.

Value: Not everyone can afford custom made John Lobbs or C&J's (personally I don't see the reason for spending that much on shoes anyway). My only gripe is that prices have creeped up year after year, but that's expected with sourcing and labor costs increasing. If you're waffling between AE's and say, a pair of $175 Johnston & Murphys or even $100-150 shoes from Macy's, do yourself a favor and go with the AE's. Sure, you could buy 2 or 3 pairs for the price of one pair of Park Aves, but the AE's will not only last much longer, but they will look better over time and be more comfortable.

Overall, an excellent way to quite literally transform your wardrobe. After all, if Park Aves are good enough for the President of the United States, they're surely good enough for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hendrix, Slash, Clapton, etc...can't go wrong!, June 18, 2012
The gold standard of Wah pedals. There's a reason this is the best selling guitar pedal of all time. Used by many if not all of the greats, this should be your go-to pedal for wah expression. Quick and to the point with the features:

Durability/construction - indestructible. I only have one of these and it's been going for more than 10 years without a single issue. The rocking component is smooth as when I first bought it and there has been no issues with electronics. The only downside is that the pedal is very heavy but that's what groupies are for right? :)

Sound - not enough to be said here...for all your wacka-wacka, voodoo child needs, this is the only choice.

Value - it's bestselling in part because it's very attainable. You'll only be buying one of these anyway since they do not break.

Dockers Men's Signature Khaki D1 Slim-Fit Flat-Front Pant
Dockers Men's Signature Khaki D1 Slim-Fit Flat-Front Pant
Price: $29.99 - $58.00

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fit, decent quality, outstanding value, June 18, 2012
THE perfect fit for a man with a relatively normal build looking for a go-to work pant. I own five pairs of these and rotate them throughout the week and have not noticed any problems.

Fit: For me, the most important component of any khaki pants is the fit. I am deathly afraid of "dad khaki syndrome" and these pants fit the bill perfectly. Not ridiculously tight in the butt, but hugs the seat well enough to prevent sagging or billowing that you see in lots of regular pleated khakis. Fits comfortably through the leg and is not constricting; I wear these all days without any discomfort in the crotch or thighs. 5 stars.

Style: The flat front and no-cuff styling is very clean and contemporary. Profile is exactly what I look for in work pants - fashion forward and close-fitting, yet conservative enough to be appropriate for the boardroom and such. Leg opening is perfect, but you'll need to measure carefully to nail the length right (depends on how much of a break you're looking for...it might take 2 or 3 tries). 4 stars.

Value: These are pretty cheap khakis, but you do get what you pay for. These are, of course, not made in the USA and the fabric is not outstanding. However, I haven't had issues with construction and I'm not so much of a fabric snob to care beyond what the pants look like. These pants beat anything else in its price range. 4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy these pants now!!! Fantastic value and my go-to pant., June 18, 2012
Slim fit chinos are somewhat of an enigma in men's style. Brands like Unis, Left Field, and Wings+Horns offer slim fitting chinos that are mysteriously expensive for the quality. Enter Docker's Alpha Khakis. I bought three pairs of these when they were first released, and wore them to death. The tagline "where jeans end and khakis begin" was pretty cute, but I never thought it would actually hold true for me - I wear these FAR more than the denim I used to go to everyday. A few notes on the Alpha Khakis:

Waist: For those with an athletic build or thicker legs, these pants will feel tight. However, keep in mind that these can stretch significantly if you want them to - up to one inch in the waist. I measure 32" at the waist, but when I first bought these at 32, they were way too tight. I returned them for 33" which fit very snugly (still a little too tight), but decided to see if they'd stretch out. They do in fact stretch out after wear and they now fit very comfortably. In retrospect 32" would probably fit me if I wore them long enough...In any case, buy these either true to size or 1" more in waist depending on how thick your legs are.

Leg: These pants fit wonderfully through the leg without venturing into skinny-jeans territory. The leg opening is perfect - a little more narrow than what you'd find in Levi's 501, but wide enough to wear with Oxfords/dress shoes.

Length: I would suggest purchasing 2" more in length as these pants are great for cuffing. The hem, unlike normal khakis, are relatively narrow (a little more than half an inch, just like the hem you would find in normal denim) which makes cuffing look good (I personally hate the really thick cuffing that you see in a lot of magazines but that's just me). There is little to no shrinkage in the length.

Value: These are absolutely the best pants in value that I've purchased in recent memory. Right of the package, you can tell that the fabric is more robust than your average khaki (they're designed to be as tough as jeans and they certainly feel like it). I've tried on high end chinos before and the Alphas give them a run for their money at 20% of the price. I think these were so popular that when Docker's first released them, they sold out within a few weeks. When you buy these, you'll be wearing them everyday for years to come.

I wish there were 6 stars ratings reserved for wonderful products like this. Very rarely do "mall brand" companies nail a product like this. Pick up a couple of pairs and save on shipping....if you buy only one, you'll probably want to buy more!

SeaVees Men's Lace-Up Sneaker
SeaVees Men's Lace-Up Sneaker

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic summer sneaker - stand out among the sea of vans, converses, etc, June 18, 2012
I have two pairs of these - one in natural and one in navy. There are many things to like about these fantastic sneakers from Seavees.

LOOKS: Seavees nails everything on the head. Classic, low profile similar to that of Converses and PF Flyers. The piping along the sole is a great detail, especially on the natural color. Duck canvas is a fastastic material (very sturdy, yet conforms to the foot pretty well) and the suede detail is nice albeit difficult to keep clean. One small detail that I love is the contrast stitching in the heel - it adds a nice punch of color and looks especially great when you're wearing these with shorts or rolled up pants. Not crazy about branding but the Seavees decal is well placed and pretty understated, so I don't mind. Finally, this is pretty minor but the shoelaces are great on these sneakers. They're relatively thin and flat, which helps with the overall profile of the shoe.

DURABILITY: I've been rotating these in for almost two years now and signs of wear are beginning to show. The upper is completely fine, but the gum sole has been worn down significantly. This is expected as with any soft soled shoe, though - walking is very comfortable but it will wear down faster.

COMFORT: The biggest difference between these and converses in terms of wearability is the insole that comes with these sneakers. The arch support is great in these and the sneaker fits true to size so it shouldn't be hard to nail tthe fit.

Overall there is a marked difference in comfort and durability when you compare these to your standard Converses. For those looking for more durable sneakers that don't look the same as everyone else's, look no further than these sneaks!
