5.0 out of 5 stars Get the "super deluxe" download -- for the Leeds concert, June 11, 2015
The best deal is to download the MP3s of the "super deluxe" set for the current $18.99 price. That way you get the '71 Leeds concert in its entirety, in addition to everything on the "deluxe" double CDs, for just $4 more than the CDs. It is well worth it -- that Leeds concert is amazing. It is one of the best Stones performances I have heard - consistently better than even the "Ya Yas" CD (which was also great). Mick Taylor and Keith Richards guitars were spot on. The recording is of outstanding sound quality. Very well balanced and excellent stereo. Sonically just amazingly well done. And with Leeds you get the entire concert, with gapless playback, if your equipment allows gapless playback.

There is some duplication of songs with the Roundhouse concert (on disc 2 of the set), but the performances are different enough that it's worth it to have both.

The studio album portion on disc 1 is the same transfer as on the 2009 release, which I already have, so I really just bought this for the live material and the alternative takes. The alternative takes of Brown Sugar and Bitch are standouts, but each of the 5 is a must have -- all excellent. Eric Clapton performs on the Brown Sugar alt. take - quite a different, but very enjoyable studio take on that great song.

I'd highly recommend the 18.99 download.

Firing Line with William F. Buckley Jr. "Vietnam and the Intellectuals"
Firing Line with William F. Buckley Jr. "Vietnam and the Intellectuals"
DVD
Price: $4.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Particularly excellent episode, March 2, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
One of the best Firing Line episodes. Two intellectuals of more or less equal brilliance debating their two different foreign policy views. Is the U.S. a bully to the world or acting reasonably in pushing Democracy around the world. It is refreshing to see two men with such extreme differences go at it in a very civilized, intelligent way. Both have extreme knowledge of history and foreign affairs and so were discussing issues in an informed, intelligent, reasoned way.

5.0 out of 5 stars High quality, reliable drive, March 2, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It's amazing how the price has come down on 128 GB drives, like this. This is a super reasonable price for a high quality product. I've put most of my music collection and many photos on this and have had no problems at all. When using a USB3 port, it is super fast, but otherwise it is, of course, normal speed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very high quality, reliable disks, March 2, 2015

I've bought many of these Memorex blu-ray disc spindles and never had a problem with any disc. If I do start seeing problems with what is output, my first reaction will be that there is something wrong with my writer. These are high quality, very reliable disks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Settled on "Standard" mode settings, February 13, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I kept reading recommendations here about the "Movie" mode being the best starting point and kept fiddling around with settings in that mode and wasn't happy with it at all. Though it produces some mellow but interesting colors, "Movie" mode just seems overall sort of dark with a slightly hazy tone.

I'd also been trying the "Standard" mode and it overall seemed better. After 10 days of fiddling and fretting, I finally found settings I am extremely happy with, in all formats: cable, blu ray, Netflix. Amazon. The picture is very sharp and clear, and I am happier with the colors this way than in "Movie" mode, even when watching movies.

Backlight: 10
Contrast: 78
Brightness: 45
Sharpness: 20
Color: 47
Tint: 58/42

Dyn. Contrast: Med.
White Balance (only 2 point) 0 0 0 -9 +11 +25
Gamma: +1
Color Tone: Warm2
Auto Motion Plus: Custom -- Blur reduction: 10 Judder reduction: 5
LED Clear Motion: Off
Smart LED: Standard

One thing you become acutely aware of with a good TV like this is how different the color is from one cable channel to another. Even on the same program, with different studio lighting on different people, one can appear pinkish and another too brown. Then they go the host who has perfect flesh color. The best you can do is focus on getting the setting that gives the best coloration in the most circumstances. I believe the above settings do this for me.

The Disinherited (Disinherited Series Book 1)
Price: $6.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time, October 3, 2014
Terrible book. The author is very poor at character development and is very weak insofar as understanding of people. And the plot ... well, lets say it's very simplistic and rather childish. A waste of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent internet radio, December 29, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
When I first got this I had a weak router (an older Verizon model) and it would always take some time to get the wifi connection. And I would often lose the connection. But I have upgraded to a more powerful router (newer Verizon one with two antennas), and the connection is much quicker and very reliable. I believe that this is the problem these reviewers are having who complain about the slow buffering, etc. They have weak routers.

I like the fact that it has USB playing capability and can play WAV and FLAC files on USB. Also, I like the fact that you can connect external speakers and use those instead of the unit's own speaker. I've done so and it sounds great. It's an easily transportable system I can listen to anywhere in the home. And there are a huge number of radio stations to get through Reciva and iHeart radio.

I am very happy with this radio and use it every day, take it with me on vacations, move it around the house, and get a lot of pleasure from it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Once were great jeans, but they've changed them, December 2, 2013
I used to love the 505s and they were the jeans I always bought. But now with my first new purchase in a couple years I learn that they have changed the fit so that the waistline is lower and the fit is uncomfortable. And why all of a sudden have they reduced the depth of the pockets by a little over an inch? Now there is a risk that coins and keys will slide out of my pockets in the car. With the deeper pockets this was never even a concern. Now I have to always be careful about pocket position when I sit in the car. Why fiddle around with these things so unnecessarily. Levi's is a company that prides itself as a longstanding tradition. Now they are throwing all that out the window!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cold War was unnecessary, November 5, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
One of the best chapters in the book is: "The Cold War: Who Started It?". Very strong, footnoted evidence is presented that Harry Truman was an uneducated, ignorant Yahoo, easily susceptible to knee-jerk anti-Soviet thinking, and egged on in that direction by his big-business advisors and cronies.

Truman had an amazing lack of understanding of the Soviet's motives and always readily jumped to paranoid conclusions. In fact, it was understandable that the Soviets wanted friendly governments NEXT DOOR to them in eastern Europe. They had been attacked by Germany twice in the century by Germans traipsing across Eastern Europe. They lost over 20 million people in WW2 and many more in WW1.

Truman did not have to go the confrontational route against the Soviets. Many (such as Henry Wallace and Eleanor Roosevelt) wanted a live and let live approach. The Soviets deserved some empathy and respect after their huge contribution to the WW2 victory. The times Truman believed they were in violation of Yalta were based on misunderstandings by Truman.

Truman went contrary to the philosophy of Roosevelt and Henry Wallace, and if not for a procedural gimmick to put Truman on the ticket instead of Wallace in 1944, Wallace would have become President instead of Truman and would probably have avoided the cold war, Korea, Viet Nam, and all that nonsense. That event at the 1944 convention was probably one of the most important events of the rest of the century.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding ... Let's Have More!, August 22, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was a good selection of episodes. The 10th anniversary show was an amazing collection of talent on stage together and interacting spontaneously. Let's have more episodes with more Don Rickles - in his prime he was the funniest man alive. And include some with Buddy Hackett! I haven't seen him since the 70s but remember he was a very funny guy. Do the show where Buddy told the story of borrowing a sweet old lady's camera while she was away, taking a certain picture, and replacing her camera! Lot's of hilarious memories from that era. I'm glad they're doing this series and with such good quality. They ought to do the show that aired on Jan. 1, 1971, which contained the final cigarette commercial ever to air on U.S. TV: Virginia Slims .... and include that full 60 second commercial.
