Flag in Exile (Honor Harrington Book 5)
Flag in Exile (Honor Harrington Book 5)
Price: $6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than your run of the mill franchise novel, May 22, 2015
Being an avid reader of science fiction and fantasy, I’ve been a fan of this series since the first book. It’s not corporate owned from a movie or TV show. The author, David Weber has free reign to put his characters in situations that you couldn’t if he was writing for the Star Trek or Star Wars franchises.

The main character; Honor Harrington and her trusted tree cat, have a bond that’s unlike anything I’ve read in run of the mill corporate owned science fiction. In this entry, the church wants Honor Harrington to step down because they don’t believe a woman should be running a star ship or commanding a fleet.

The novel moved at a slow pace at first, however there were enough character moments and drama to keep me reading each chapter. When the religious fanatics started their campaign to bring down Honor toward the middle of the novel, that’s when the action started and didn’t let up until the end.

There are several explosions in this one. Fleets of ships, buildings, laser guns, all culminating with the enemy facing off against our hero in a deadly sword fight. And it doesn’t end there; Honor goes against an enemy armada in a battle that would rival anything in a good science fiction movie.
I came into reading this series very late. I didn’t think much of it at first when I saw the traditional naval uniforms on the cover. It might have sold me much earlier if the costumes were more futuristic. At first I thought it was an alternate history of earth. After reading the first novel, it won me over. I’ve purchased all the books in the series and can’t wait to read each one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give me some of that ol' time science fiction., May 16, 2015
A great collection of science fiction stories that inspired writers of today. Don't let the age of these stories fool you. There are too many classics to mention here. Being a student of old science fiction and it's beginnings, they are stories that don't disappoint the reader. Some of these stories may appear to be a cliche by today's standards. This is where their inspiration began. A lot of these stories are used in science fiction movies like Black Destroyer, which inspired the Alien movie.

Robocop (2014)
Robocop (2014)
DVD
Price: $12.99

5.0 out of 5 stars See the Original and Save Your Money, April 10, 2015
Robocop has wonderful art direction. So.......I am giving five stars for art direction.....However the rest is an incoherent mess. If you are not one for spoilers don’t read any further.

Alex Murphy, Detroit detective, was the victim of a car explosion. Some bad cops who didn’t want to be discovered, planted a bomb under his car. And the saga of Robocop begins. Unlike the original with the quick cuts, commercials and fast action, this one was a painful re-imagining.

The only thing Murphy has left was his lungs, right hand, and everything from the neck up. You have to suspend your belief in reality just to get past the bad script. With Samuel Jackson, Michel Keaton and Gary Oldman, you might think you have a blockbuster. This film had a lot of great scenes with good character moments but it didn’t come together. If you’re a fan of science fiction or action films, there should be some action. There’s little of it. And when we see Robocop fight against some robot training cops, it’s all bad computer graphics. It all plays like a bad Sy Fy Channel movie of the week.

It’s hard to keep up with what is going on the screen because it’s just moves at such a leisurely pace. Michel Keaton mumbles his lines and his role could have been accomplished by any good character actor. The film seeks to draw in new fans by utilizing big name actors. However the lines they are given don’t bring a lot of credibility to the updated version.

Gary Oldman plays Robocops doctor, who walks a fine line between his corporate master and Murphy’s health.

Samuel Jackson portrays a slick commentator for a CNN type network. His character represents the media of the future.

Michel Keaton was the bad guy in this one. He’s the C.E.O. of O.C.P. He wants a Robocop to represent the product he wants to push on the public. A completely robotic police force to oppress and control the public.

None of the characters have any passion or emotion to drive the dramatic tension in story. Everything is understated any pivotal moments in this story are mumbled. There’s no overpowering musical score to drive this story.

It’s an exercise in how not to update a formerly popular franchise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preserves and Updates the characters for a new generation! This is the way the new Joe should be portrayed., April 3, 2015
This anime version of G.I. Joe really stays true to the mythology. I only wish there were more or a series. The creators get the characters and give them a contemporary edge that other adaptations and updates don't. This movie is approximately one hour, but it covers a lot of ground and worth your five dollars if you get a chance to grab this edition. I can only hope that this same group of creators makes another one like this. I've seen every episode of the original and I can tell you first hand this is a quality production and worth your time if your a G.I. Joe fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Schwarzenegger films of the early 80's., April 3, 2015
This review is from: Conan - The Complete Quest (DVD)
The first one was terrific. The second one a comedy with Grace (whatever happened to her?) Jones. If you look at these today you have to wonder why there were not more films in the franchise. If you can get this at a bargain price, it's worth it. If not....wait....the movie is a perfectly good way to spend an afternoon. Watching Arnold read Conan's lines in his thick accent brings me back to the 80's each time. I wonder how the creator, Robert E. Howard would have felt about Arnie as Conan if he were alive today. This collection should of had Red Sonja, which was also a Robert E. Howard character. The producers of the DVD could have called this collection Conan and Red Sonja.

5.0 out of 5 stars Under Rated Show that really deserves a second look!, April 3, 2015
Fantastic underrated series. I bought this at Walmart long ago and don't know why the complete set was made available. Surprisingly it was well written and better than the Men in Black animated series. There are no cookie cutter characters in this series. If you enjoy good animation and stories, it's fun for adults and kids to watch. I just wish this show got the treatment it deserved and was not reduced to this cheap format, and unfortunately the only one available.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Final Season Does Not Disappoint!, April 3, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The end of an era comes from this season of Six Million Dollar Man. I didn't expect John Colicos, the Klingon on Star Trek, to be the villain in the last episode. He plays a crooked Russian general out to test a new anti-aircraft mobile rocket launcher. This season has a lot of great two part episodes and doesn't let up like many last season shows. We see Ted Cassidy in his final appearance as Big Foot. You get to see lots of great 70's actors in this one . It stands up to repeated viewings even if you don't like sci fi. It has enough to keep you coming back each time to see what happens next. That's the objective of good writing. I wish that there were more good shows like this on the air with a hero sets a good example.. You can't say that about a lot of TV shows of today that are in the genre of science fiction. The great characters like Oscar Goldman, Doctor Rudy Wells will all be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A good Schwarzenegger Movie!, April 3, 2015
This review is from: The Last Stand (DVD)
Arnold is finally making good action movies. This one is more like it. Good characterizations, unpredictable story points, and lots of good action. It's been a long time since I've seen a good action movie of this caliber. In this one Arnold plays a character that's vulnerable, facing old age and tired of seeing good people being killed in the line of duty. If your are a fan of the action genre, it's not a film that lets you down. I got this in the five dollar bin and don't pay any more for this. For the price it's worth your five dollars...no more though. I like Arnold better in this stage of his career because he's not playing a super human and a character that people can relate to. Arnold has acting ability but needs more films like this to showcase his talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars More, More, More Adventures of Pen and True! I hope this is a continuing series!, March 26, 2015
If you are a fan of H.G. Wells or Jules Verne then you'll like the Adventures of Pen and True. I believe this would make an excellent feature film. So much of the imagination in this book could be described as part of the "Steam Punk" genre. Sci Fi machines with a late 1890's twist. If only this was a movie! Jaime Karl Hudson is a fantastic writer and I wish I had a tenth of the writing talent he has. I'd like to see more of the continuing adventures of these characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars We're going to see lot more of Jaime Karl Hudson in the future!, March 23, 2015
If you like science fiction and poetry, this is a collection you can appreciate. James Hudson has an unparalleled talent for words and phrases. I wish that I was the wordsmith that he is. I hope to see more of his work in the future. It was his work that inspired me to get back into painting and drawing again.
