2.0 out of 5 stars The worst of the 8 X-Men/Wolverine films and maybe Bryan Singer's worst film., June 28, 2016
Very weak script, disjointed, stories and scenes developed at too fast a rate, terrible casting of some of the 'new' characters
(which includes the young versions of established characters, although Nightcrawler was an exception) and a completely underwhelming super villain who is supposed to be extremely powerful. Same old themes, especially with Magneto and Prof X, and they were trying to throw in way too many sub plots and characters which detract from focused writing. Even then, the additional characters are hardly used and seem pointless; Angel especially sticking out as such a character. The return of Moira and Stryker for this film was not necessary. There's also way too many 'destroy everything' CGI scenes, which eventually become boring. Interesting that there is a little 'laugh at us' scene, with the characters mentioning that in general, the 3rd film of a series is usually the worst. They could have been referring to X-men: Last Stand (which I don't mind and is definitely better than this), but i took it as Bryan Singer adding the scene towards the end of filming, after realizing that this film was going to be pretty poor. Film was way too long also.

Still, I have to be fair and say something good about this. Well, as seen in most superhero movies these days, the FX are pretty good and the scene where Quicksliver rescues everyone from the carnage is fun and artistic, even if it is done very tongue in cheek (which yes, was the point, but it also adds to the reduced integrity of the film for me), making Quicksliver look like the real near unstoppable force in this film. The start of the film (first 45 mins) showed potential to be another good X-men movie, but went downhill from there.

3.0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for, April 23, 2016

I was pretty excited when I saw this, and other posters from the same seller on Amazon. They looked amazing and at a great price. However, it's true, you get what you pay for. When I got this one and the others, the paper quality was so low, the paper is very thin and the colors no where as vibrant as they look on-line. Just be aware of that when buying, however, they are cheap and the free shipping from poster revolution is great.

The Regulators
The Regulators

5.0 out of 5 stars may not be a classic King novel in terms of notoriety but i think it's one of his best, November 28, 2015
This review is from: The Regulators (Kindle Edition)
I was so surprised by the overall 3 and a half stars this book got that I had to put my 2 cents in. I read this a long time ago, when it first came out, so i can't remember much of the story line details, however, what is left is the emotive memory of how much I enjoyed this novel, having at that time not read a good SK novel in a while, in the calibre of 'Dark Half', 'Salem's lot', 'Fire Starter', and 'The Shining' for example. This book is straight to the point combination of thrills, violent action and suspense. If you like siege movies/books thrown in with violence, you'll love this. It's the movie equivalent of a classic Zombie film, i.e., people under siege, stuck in a building, working out how to survive. Yes, the premise of cartoon characters attempting to mow you down with high powered automatic weapons is odd, but also interestingly and fascinatingly disturbing. So if that premise puts you off, that's a shame, because the plot, pace and suspense are awesome.

I have to concur with the other critical reviews of this. I won't go into a review of the plot but just to add to the other more critical reviews that this is definitely not up to the usual high standards of Brubaker. I won't analyse Phillips' work, as it is as expected and if you like his work, then it's consistent here. Overall, this is a some what rehashed 'Sleeper', which was 5 stars. I was disappointed that so much of this story has recurring themes and character personalities from Sleeper, therefore it lacked the intrigue of originality and novelty. The writing here seems rushed and maybe that's why it falls a little flat. I read that they were doing this around the same time as the fantastic 'Criminal' books, maybe that's why. Don't get we wrong, the writing in comparison to many other comic authors is still good and if you're new to Brubaker, and like crime stories, then I can see many such people thinking this is a 5 star book, possibly. However, having read Brubaker's superior works first and due to his own high standards, one can't help being disappointed.

Overall, it is readable, intelligent and fairly enjoyable, but as mentioned, it's sort of more of the same, but just not as good as the previous stuff. I'd definitely recommend it to new Brubaker/Phillips readers, read this before you read the better stuff and you won't be disappointed. To fans of Brubaker already, I guess it's worth it, as I can understand the need to read more of their works, but just be wary.

17inch Stand Silent for Notebooks Fan with Luxury Gold Color Laptop Cooling Pads

4.0 out of 5 stars good product, September 5, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have had this for about 2 months now and it works just as described. It fits perfectly on my 14 by 10.5 inch laptop and it's very light. It literally works by connecting the usb to usb wire (provided) and clicking it on. There's the blue light that comes on that some people don't seem to like, however, I don't find it impedes vision in any way, in fact it's kind of 'neat'. I haven't had the laptop overheat and switch off on me since using it, and I guess it's because of the cooling factor, but in any case, the fans are still going to help your computer. This thing has 2 large fans and they really are very silent. I was put off by the 'golden' colour originally, thought it might be too garish, but in fact, it's not a striking gold (although that's subjective) and most of it is covered by the laptop anyway. Quality wise, I don't have the knowledge or experience to compare this to other similar devices, but it's seems to be average-good quality. Overall, seems to do the trick and so far, it's still working.
FYI: when i bought this product 2 months or so ago, also from nightwish fashion, it was sold for $29, about £20 less than it is today (5th sep, 2015); not sure why they hiked up the price so much.

3.0 out of 5 stars works, but only get 30-40 mins out of it, October 26, 2014
I bought this to replace the original battery for a Toshiba Satellite, L300D-202, which is over 5 years old now. The original only gave me 40 mins at best, in the beginning, but now only gives me 5 mins. So, I finally decided to replace that battery and after reading some reviews that this battery may actually last longer than the original (at it's best), I went for this one.
The verdict after 5 weeks:
It's seems to be as good as the original, when the original was brand new. That is, I can only get 30-40 mins max out of it. This of course is disappointing as some of the reviews mentioned possibly getting 2 hours out of it. However, I understand that it's best to near-drain the battery and then leave it charging while the computer is OFF, for about 12 hours, to get the max power. Currently, I have fully charged the battery while the computer is ON and being used all day, and still only get the time mentioned above. I'll have to try the instructed way and see if it makes a difference. Another point to note to prospective buyers, is that at first, my computer did not register the new battery, after installation. Nevertheless, after a few goes of taking it out and putting it back in, the computer finally recognised it and I haven't had an issue with this since.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was expecting it to be better, August 17, 2014
PROS: Looks great, fairly good value for money and nice sound clarity

CONS: Starts to hurt my ears after about 2 hours, although this may be partially related to wearing glasses, I'm not sure. Also, I love bass and listen to a variety of types of music, many of which are bass heavy, e.g. dance, reggae, hip hop. Currently I use a cheap pair of sony earphones that are no longer made (around 7-10 dollars and now seem to only be available for second hand, from China) and they are second to none to the many other headphones or earphones I have used over the last 20 years. Recently I thought, I could use a good set of headphones too, after all, they fit more securely then earphones and good for dancing while listening. Got this one, after some research and reading the positive reviews. I have to say, the bass is NOT as good as expected. It's very average and is simply not loud enough. The problem with reading people's reviews on quality of music, is that is it very subjective, but still, you have to take a risk and give it a go sometimes. Unfortunately, this one didn't pay off. One more thing, it's a little flimsy.

Overall: good to look at, crisp and clear music and good value for money, despite the not so great bass, which is a big flaw for me. Major compliant, it hurts the ears after a few hours. It's a little flimsy too but at the same time, retains some quality. Worth buying if you don't want to spend a great deal and not too worried about bass. Avoid it, if you need your music to be heard optimally.

4.0 out of 5 stars very crude but funny and actually fairly well written at times, April 19, 2014
This review is from: Movie 43 (Amazon Instant Video)
First thing, I am NOT a fan of potty and profanity type humour. That's why this movie really suprised me. It's got a great cast and is suprisingly well directed. Yes, it's crude, very crude, with themes of the afore mentioned potty humour and profanity, as well as sex, violence, periods, and a whole bunch of other stuff. However, behind all that, it is actually well written in parts. My favourites being the sketch where the girl from Kick Ass (the main one) is around her boyfriends house and she tries to get away or at least hide the fact that she just had her first period. She then gets surrounded by various male characters (her boyfriend, boyfriend's older brother, boyfriend's dad and her dad) who haven't a clue what to do and try to help her in a sterotypically male way, which makes for some good laughs and highlights the sterotype of how males don't have a clue about periods. Another good one is the last one with Elizabeth Banks and the rivalry she has with her boyfriend's male cat, for the boyfriend's affections. The cat itself is a cartoon, quite literally. Sick and strange but still funny with a deliciously dark ending. The blind date one with Halle Berry and the co-writer of the British version of the Office (not Ricky Gervais) gets pretty crazy but still amusing as they get each other to do outlandish dares.

Overall, yes it's extreme and the gags and themes are crudely out there. If you get easily offended by anything I have mentioned, avoid this. If you like Jackass, Seth Mcfarlane stuff, Farrely Brothers (Peter Farrely- Something about Mary, co-made this), crude stand up comics and dark humour (like in Kick Ass), with a bit of Kevin Smith thrown in, think you'll like it. Yes, there are some bad sketches amongst the better ones and it would have been a better movie if it was a little less Seth Mcfarlane and more Kevin Smith, but it isn't. Still, it's good for a few laughs, and if like me, you generally don't like potty humour but enjoy gags that sterotype people, dark humour, satire, observational comedy and don't mind swearing, then give it a go, because some of the writing is defintitely clever. I think the level of grossness in this, clouds the fact that it does contain some clever writing, at least for the better sketches. I guess it is possible to be clever and disgusting. Just don't watch it with kids or easily offended people. Also, it's definitely a 'guys' type of movie and does sexualize women too much.

3.0 out of 5 stars A nostalgic 3 but could easily be a 2, February 23, 2014
This review is from: Secret Wars II (Paperback)
It's the sequel to Secret Wars. This time The Beyonder has come to earth. This a 9 issue limited series.

It's not very gripping. The Beyonder is God like and the main premise of this story is that he tries to discover himself. He can do anything he wants and he makes himself into what looks like a cheesy 80's fashionista with a resemblance to David Hasselhof. He then roams around the world spying and interacting with both super-powered and non super-powered people and tries to understand his purpose in the universe and understand concepts like love. In the middle of that, the super heroes and super villains know he's on earth and are understandably afraid of him. They try and attack him but obviously there's no competitive battles and nothing much to get excited about here. The stuff where he tries and 'discovers' himself, lead him to do things like taking over the earth, and then erasing everyone's memory that he did so, or just making himself super rich and flying around in a sports car. Once again, the philosophical side of the story could have been done better and is ultimately pretty boring. The art too is very mediocre.
