5.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing !, July 7, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very Disappointing !

I ordered a 12 x10 Coyote Brown Hexagonal Tarp to match the Coyote Brown Hamock I recently purchased. I assumed this would be a lightweight sturdy Coyote Brown colored tarp.

It is not..... it is black, not coyote brown, and it is made of thick but very heavy material. The black color is awful....and this tarp / fly looks like a giant trash bag....

I ordered this to use on a trip that has been planned for quite some time, and, I have to have SOMETHING..... so I am stuck with this giant black 80$ trash bag....

I don't know if this was a mistake or if they are just pawning out junk that no one wanted to buy in the first place by advertising it as something else.....

Either way, I would not trust Henessy Hammock again....I will give the giant trash bag that they sent me to a local homeless shelter once this trip is over..... and then I guess I will have to pony up another $80 and buy an ENO fly.....

I am really bummed about this, I spent a lot of money this year to ensure that my gear looked sharp.....and now it is going to have a giant black trash bag hung over it.....

EDIT: I have upped my rating to 3 stars. I am disgusted by the look and color of this tarp, but, 1 star isn't a fair rating. If you can get over the "Trash bag" look and don't mind carrying a 4 pound tarp you may like this.... there are so many options in this price range that are better tho..... anyways....I have given it an average rating.....but I still don't like it lol

EDIT 2: I am still not fond of the way this tarp looks, but, after some heavy storms I am back to re-rate it with 5 stars.

Frogg Toggs All Sport Rain Suit
Frogg Toggs All Sport Rain Suit
Price: $28.32 - $168.83

5.0 out of 5 stars They Do Not Pack Down Small, June 30, 2014
These are great for the rain. I like this material MORE than gore-tex for protection from the elements.....

If you are planning to stuff them into a backpack you should consider the fact that these do not compress very efficiently. They are extremely light......but even at max compression the sack you carry them in will be bigger than the sack you have your down sleeping bag in.....

I actually like the bulky mass..... it makes a phenomenal pillow...... it does take up a lot of room in the pack tho.....

I found this bag to be too small for a normal sized adult human.

It isn't a bad bag, it's just made for wee peeplez.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrible Reception - Nowehere near standard 4g performance., June 30, 2014
When I first received the huge (about 3 times the size of a refrigerator box) box that this hat ships in I was shocked at the weight of it. This hat weighs over 19 pounds; which is more than my entire pack including water and food!

This hat is made of construction paper and it will explode with the force of 1 and 1/4 sticks of dynamite in even a slight drizzle.

The hat doesn't come with batteries, pants, boots or a jacket and it does not support 1080p display or multitouch. Despite the fact that I am sitting in a fast wi-fi hotspot right now it has STILL UTTERLY FAILED to open a single webpage or stream a video from YouTube.

There is a large oak tree in the middle of the street that prevents me from seeing into my neighbors bathroom window from my living room; I have wanted to remove that tree for quite some time, which is the reason I bought this hat. I thought I could get rid of the tree by throwing this hat the way Kung Lao from mortal kombat throws his hat and it didn't work at all. I spent nearly 15 minutes playing as Kung Lao in MK Trilogy before trying this, and I am certain I was throwing it exactly like Kung Lao did in MK Trilogy on the PSX, so, for certain this is a defect in the hat and not in my throwing ability......

Add to that the fact that this hat doesn't have any pockets and it will not keep your extremities or your core warm AT ALL in Alpine environments on sub-zero degree hikes. It is also not emblazoned with topless zombie mermaids, lute playing zombie minstrels or Lara Croft; and I have to say that this device has failed to meet my expectations.

If you have 17,000 us dollars to spend you can definitely find a better rain hat.....

I am giving it 5 stars anyways tho because I like that this company spells both "Frogg" and "Toggs" with 2 gs' each..... because I can tell people my hat has integrated 4g..... and lets face it, 4g is just better than 2g or 3g.

2.0 out of 5 stars I am really bummed...., May 4, 2014

I love this boot. I have been wearing the exact same boot in the exact same size for years....
I have gone thru 3 pairs, and, this purchase makes my 4th pair....

I am really bummed to report that this boot in size 13 from Amazon is much smaller than the exact same boot in size 13 at House Of Shoes....

The ones at House Of Shoes cost $129.........

My aunt warned me that this could happen....
I wish I had listened....

I love this boot and I am probably going to end up with the 15130 size 13 that they are selling....

I wouldn't buy these online again....

Good Luck!

1.0 out of 5 stars Impressive, May 2, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this charger to replace a crummy AllPowers solar charger I bought a month or so ago that simply doesn't work. I had purchased the AllPowers charger to upgrade a Lenmar solar charger that used to be awesome.... I had purchased the Lenmar a long time ago, before Smartphones were common, it always worked, but, it just isn't fast enough to keep with the massively increased power demands of the newer phones.... I still use the Lenmar to charge my point & Click camera.... nbut, be aware that I have had some experience with this sort of tech in the past and my expectations were realistic when I made the purchase.

The Opteka SP-14w has so far exceeded my expectations..... In direct sunlight this thing charges as fast or faster than a wall socket. If you need a charger to keep outside by the pool or on your balcony this one will not disappoint....

I have yet to strap it to a backpack and see how it works in motion under tree cover.... but it does put out a decent charge even in the shade......so I am optimistic.... I will update with a proper review in a week or so once I have had the opportunity to strap it to my pack for a week off the grid....

The one issue I have with this item, and it is a big issue, is the stiching on the loops designed to hold the panel to a backpack. They are super weak and I can already see that it is just a matter of time before they break..... I would dock the product 2 stars for that....but.... after watching this perform in direct sunlight I would have given it 6 stars so it balances out lol

EDIT: I just put the Opteka SP-14w thru its paces strapped to a backpack.... it worked really well on sunny days, even if I was hiking thru shade. It kept my Smartphone powered while using 3 very high res (5second) GPS apps. It didn't work at all on overcast days..... but that is to be expected. I am pretty pleased with the way this thing performs when strapped to my pack, and, I think if you are hiking the AT or PCT or just doing a multi-day hike anywhere you'd be happy with it as well. It is the best one I have ever used for this purpose.

EDIT 2 - 33 days after buying this it has stopped working completely. The seller does not return my e-mails and it looks like I am SOL.

Edit 3 - I cut thru the fabric and found that the soldered connections had come undone. It was easy to resolder them. I used duct tape to "repair" the fabric. It is working fine now, but this shouldn't have failed in the first place.

3.0 out of 5 stars OMFGWTFBBQ!!!???, April 28, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The case I received is similar to the case pictured but not quite the same....

The material is the same, but, my case has no stylized emblem on the flip cover, has a much "rounder" look at the edges and is slightly smaller than the dimensions provided.... The most important difference is the little metal hook above the large metal clip....the case I got doesn't have one, which is a real bummer because I have a special clamp on my backpack strap that locks onto one of those things like a vice.....

It seems to be pretty good quality....and I would trust the metal clip to hold my phone to my hip....

It isn't quite what I expected, but, it works fine and is the right size for an HTC ONE M8, so , for the price I am satisfied with what I got.....altho I would have been a lot happier if mine had the hook that the one in the picture clearly displays.

This is rather cheapish and flimsy USB and nothing I plug into either end has that cool little "snap-effect" that quality usb cables have....

For the price tho I have no complaints at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Looking Bladder, April 27, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great bag for a dayhike or a bike ride....

It is less great for overland hiking....

The bladder bag itself is top quality construction. The material is less like a Camelbak and more like a Platypus. The design is cool. It is easy to put ice into this thing and it is very easy to clean. You also never have to worry about getting a screw-cap suction bound...

If you are out on an overland hike you will find that this bag is kinda hard to fill with a water-filter hose, so, you will need to carry a nalgene or something to pump your water into, and then empty the Nalgene into the SourcePak.... I do not trust the sliding green clip lock not to move around while it is in my backpack, but that is easily fixed with a piece of paracord or a rubber band...

The hose on this pack is a little too short for an expedition style pack and you may need to splice in a length of hose to make it work...

The bite valve and cover are good quality. The bite valve has a little twist lock built into it. I don't like this type of locking method as much as the traditional thumb lever, as it forces me to touch the bite valve with my hand. The valve cover is tied to the valve and it is difficult to take on and off.... the simple solution there is to cut the string, tho that means there is a risk of losing it....

Overall, for the money I am very happy with this bladder.... I am just not sure it is something I would carry on multi-day hikes...
It is definitely designed to be more accomodating in the kitchen than a CamelBak.... it is less functional in the field tho....

Still a 5 star purchase at this price. If you need a 3l bladder you'll be happy with this one :)
