4.0 out of 5 stars Flawed hero but totally worth reading!, December 13, 2013
Piper has been attracted to Eric Titov for months and when he finally shows some interest, she lets her inhibitions go and sleeps with him. The next day she gets a phone telling her it was a mistake and really shouldn't have happened. Much later, Piper finds out she is pregnant and doesn't tell him. Piper is in a tough situation because Eric is her sister’s brother-in-law and she sees him all of the time. When she finally does tell him he acts like a major jerk and blames her for not telling him before.
Eric is having his own troubles as his bad behavior, especially with women, has caused him to be placed on probation by the team’s owner. After he mulls over his impending fatherhood, he decides the best thing to do is get married. Things go downhill from there.
The whole secret pregnancy, forced marriage theme is not a new one but Eric’s boorishness brings the concept to a new low. Piper really has feelings for Eric and he is attracted to her. However, his traumatic childhood has given him a real fear about his ability to commit and to parent. This is the only thing that makes him not be a total sphincter in the way he behaves to Piper. Piper is a strong woman who understands he has issues and wants to be there for him but his fears make him run every time he starts to feel something. Fortunately, he shows enough of his sensitive side that we still root for them to stay together. Also seeing characters from earlier books side with Piper and try to get Eric to face his feelings helps to keep reminding us that he is flawed but good inside (deep inside). The ending is very satisfying because it seemed like it would never really happen! There also seems to be a setup in a future book for Phillip to have a niece appear in his life with ensuing complications. Can’t wait!

All I Want for Christmas Is a Cowboy (Hunted)
All I Want for Christmas Is a Cowboy (Hunted)

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Read for Christmas, December 10, 2013
This book is a nice collection of Christmas themed cowboy stories by three of my favorite writers. In the first story, The Christmas Cabin, Emma Cane recounts the tale of how Sandy and Doug Thalberg met in the middle of a raging blizzard and fell in love in a small cabin on the Silver Springs ranch. Throughout the Valentine Valley series, this couple has been an integral part and it was fun to read about their beginning.
In the second story, Can't Wait, Jennifer Ryan tells the tale of Summer and Caleb and how his friendship with her brother Jack has become an impediment to their romance. Jack and Caleb served together in Iraq and Caleb would never do anything to ruin their friendship. Summer does her best to make Caleb realize that he would gain a love and not lose a friend but it's a tough fight against Caleb's principles.
The final story, Baby It's Cold Outside, by Katie Lane tells the story of Alana Hale. Alana has come out to New Mexico to spend Christmas with Clint McCormick, a man she met on the internet and thinks may be the one. When she gets stranded in a blizzard, she is rescued by a hunky cowboy and taken to a rustic cabin to warm up. She and Mr.Hunky find that they are very compatible in bed and she wakes up to discover that she has possibly done the naughty with Clint's brother Rand. Or has she.....
All three of the stories were fun to read with just the right amount of spiciness to balance the holiday theme. They are a fun way to enjoy the holidays and to await the new books from these authors due in early 2014.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this series!, December 8, 2013
This series just keeps getting better! William, the future Duke of Lamont, makes the unfortunate decision to bed a young woman he meets at a social event. It's unfortunate because he wakes up the next morning to discover himself naked in a bed of bloody sheets and no bedmate. His bad luck continues when he discovers he is in the bed of Mara Lowe, the girl who was going to marry his father that very day. William is thrown from his house and eventually becomes part of a group of men who run a gambling hell. Twelve years later and now known as Temple, one of his activities is to fight the unfortunate losers at the hell who hope to have their debts forgiven if they beat him. One man who keeps trying to challenge him is Christopher Lowe, the brother of the presumed murdered Mara.
Imagine Temple's shock and anger when he is stopped on the street by a young woman who reveals herself to be Mara Lowe. Temple begins a plan of vengeance to ruin this woman who ruined all of his prospects. As they say, there's a thin line between love and hate and soon the two combatants find themselves attracted to each other and their notions about each other begin to fall.
I loved that way that William and Mara verbally sparred with each other and took turns laying each other out. He has every right to be bitter and vengeful but he is still capable of love and hopes for a future life with a wife and family. She has good reasons for what she did and has the same hopes for her future but no expectations of it coming true. Mara knows that his salvation will be her ruination and all of the love between them won't change that fact. Watching them grow to love each other and put the past behind them was satisfying. It wouldn't be a romance without the obligatory misunderstandings and interfering bad doers causing problems and this book has tons of roadblocks. However, all of the problems just makes the resolution so much more enjoyable. The support of his fellow Scoundrels, Cross, Bourne and Chase, helps William understand that his need for love is greater than his need for revenge. Even Mara's last attempt to provide him with absolution can't keep them apart. It is the kind of book that when you finish you want to say "that was a great read". Now we just have to wait for Chase's book in 2014.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ah, the dreams of recapturing a lost love......., November 25, 2013
I really liked this book. For one thing, it was about an older woman who still has a lot to give to a romantic relationship. Kate is widowed and decides to start her life over by selling her house and trying online dating. When she is contacted by the first love of her life, she has doubts but also fantasies of the relationship working out this time. Her daughter is getting married and she has a really lovely future father-in-law, a divorced Englishman. Kate finds herself torn between the two men but the lure of the once perfect love is strong and she seems to be leaning toward Jake, her former lover.
I enjoyed the humor in the book and the way Kate's family interacts with each other. Her gay son and his partner are struggling with adopting and it is causing stress in the relationship. Kate gives her son excellent but non-judgemental advice. I also think that the relationship with Jake is realistically portrayed. I think many of us would find it hard to give up on the dream of reigniting an old love that went wrong. Kate makes the right decision for her in the end. A lovely book all the way through!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another entertaining romance from Julia Quinn!, October 29, 2013
I love Julia Quinn books! The Sum of All kisses is the third book in the Smythe-Smith series and covers the period between the weddings of the heroines of the first two books. Sarah Pleinsworth is dismayed to discover that Hugh Prentice is among the guests at her cousin Honoria's wedding. Several years before, a drunken Hugh challenged Sarah's cousin Daniel to a duel which resulted in Hugh becoming seriously injured. Hugh's father immediately went on a vendetta to punish Daniel which resulted in Daniel fleeing England and his family withdrawing from society for a year. Unfortunately for Sarah it was her first year to be in society and she has blamed Hugh all of these years for her missed opportunity to find a husband. Daniel and Hugh have settled their differences but Sarah still harbors resentment and lets Hugh know how she feels. Sarah is a bit of a drama queen and Hugh is a quiet, highly intelligent man who finds her annoying. As they are forced to spend time together, they discover the quirky humor they share and feelings begin to change.
I have really enjoyed this series. The Smythe-Smith recital has always been a source of humor in Ms. Quinn's books and meeting the hapless participants just makes the situation that much funnier. Sarah is an intriguing character, one who wants marriage and family in her future but on her own terms. Ultimately her strong personality is what saves their relationship. Hugh is a man who hasn't felt in control of his life for some time and who has made a devil's bargain to keep his friend safe. The interactions between them were a joy to read and the chemistry between them jumped off the page. I especially loved the interactions with the younger Pleinsworth girls who have been the source of the most humorous parts in the entire series. Frances reminds me of Hyacinth Bridgerton and I hope we will eventually see her grow up and find her perfect man.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series to come out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute holiday read!, October 20, 2013
A cute collection of short stories taking place in a little town called Snow Creek. Seven couples make a holiday love connection in this anthology. Some are new to each other, some are old friends and some are couples that fell apart. I enjoy reading these collections because I always find a new author I can read. This is a nice read to get you in the mood for Christmas.

In the follow-up to Front Page Fatality, crime reporter Nichelle Clarke is in the middle of another murder with long range implications. When a body is found in the woods and identified as a lobbyist for the tobacco industry, Nichelle finds herself learning a lot about the shady world of illegal tobacco products. From the halls of the US Capital to the small mom and pop store on the corner, a whole system of smuggling and tax cheating leads Nichelle into a big story connected to the murder.
Her maybe romance with possible mobster Joey starts to heat up but he is warning Nichelle to stay out of the story and she can't comply. Her former lover, Kyle, has just been named the Special Agent for the local ATF office and he wants to rekindle their romance. Even her source in the PD, Aaron White is giving her more no comments than help. Add to the mix predatory coworker Shelby, who is trying to take over Nichelle's job and Nichelle has her hands full.
I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. Every time Nichelle thinks she has the murder solved or at least a direction to snoop in, it turns out to either be a bust or improbable. Fighting off Shelby's attempts to grab her job and to beat TV rival Charlie Lewis doesn't help Nichelle to keep her thoughts in order to keep working this case. I also liked the rivalry between Joey and Kyle over Nichelle and look forward to seeing more of both characters in future books. That said, I appreciated the fact that the mystery aspect was the main part of the story with the romance theme as a secondary one. I hadn't read the first book but I had no trouble getting up to speed with the characters in this one. This looks like a promising new series to enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hot, hot, hot love story., October 15, 2013
Audrey has a nice safe life as executive assistant to Logan Hawkings (Stranded with a Billionaire). When her rock star twin sister Daphne has another drug fueled breakdown, Audrey takes time off to help get her sister back on track. The sisters go to the luxurious cabin of their friend Cade Archer only to discover that the cabin is already occupied. Reese Durham is a member of the group of billionaire friends that includes Cade and Logan but isn't actually a billionaire. Caught by Audrey in the middle of a seduction of the daughter of a future business partner, he ends up staying at the cabin when his target takes off leaving him stranded.
Audrey is hoping that the time at the cabin will accomplish two things, helping Daphne and starting a love connection with Cade who Audrey has loved silently since she was a young girl. Reese being at the cabin puts a major crimp in her romance plan, especially when he realizes she has feelings for Cade. What starts out as an adversarial relationship turns into a flaming hot sexual affair between Audrey and Reese. Both people have to deal with some unresolved issues before they can find happiness and a truly loving relationship.
I really enjoyed this book. Reese is a wise cracking guy who pushes all of Audrey's buttons, good and bad, and gets her to think outside the box. Audrey brings stability to Reese's life both emotionally and ultimately professionally. They have ups and downs but the relationship works. The sex scenes are XXX but they work within the storyline.
This is the third book in the Billionaire Boys Club series. This book seems to set up a future book between Cade and Daphne which looks to be pretty interesting to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars I love Agatha...., October 3, 2013
M.C. Beaton continues her long running Agatha Raisin series with this book. Agatha is having a bit of a lull with her detective agency when she is hired to solve the poisoning murder of a woman from the village of Piddlebury. The victim, Gloria French, had made herself very unpopular in the village by her habit of "borrowing" things and never returning them or claiming she never borrowed the items. When she is poisoned, a villager hires Agatha to solve the crime.
I have always looked forward to a new Agatha book because I really enjoy her character. What I thought was interesting about this book was that the victim's situation somewhat mirrored Agatha's early life in the village of Carsely. It has taken years for Agatha to be somewhat accepted in Carsely and like Gloria, one of her detractors is the local vicar. Agatha and her staff go to Piddlebury and start working the case which gets even direr when there is a second poisoning of a local poacher.
As usual, Agatha pushes her way through the case and aggravates the villagers with her brusque manner. She finds a good looking visitor to focus her latest crush on and ends up getting shown the door by the village and the man who hired her. Agatha gets her killer in the end but it is a tough process for her to crack the case.
All of the favorite characters make an appearance in this story and her ex-husband James adds an interesting twist to the plot with a possible romance. I have to say, annoying as she can be, I love to read about Agatha and her interesting take on life and murder.
