1.0 out of 5 stars Poor magnification, light did not work, July 2, 2014

Bought to use in stores to read labels but it is very difficult to read through this lens. Don't think it would have helped if light worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pizza sauce, far better than bottled brands, July 2, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My local Publix first dropped the Boboli pizza sauce for bottled brands, which are awful. They now look to be discontinuing Boboli pizza crusts. Too bad. I really enjoyed making my own with the Boboli Thin crust, mozzarella, tomato, onion. Twenty minutes in oven, then under broiler for a minute to blacken a bit. The ready-made pizza don't come close. Hope the Boboli crusts will be available online too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy like Glide but scours better, July 2, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The best floss I've ever used. Not to be confused with Reach Total Care Listerine, which is stringy and ineffective. This floss is wide, slips into place like Glide, but unlike Glide, has grooved surfaces that really scour teeth. I had been using excellent CVS Advanced Fiber floss (terrible name), but it was discontinued. This is better, and I hope Reach keeps it. Glad to order a half-dozen here that arrived quickly as promised.

Better Homes and Gardens Touch Lamp, Ivory
Better Homes and Gardens Touch Lamp, Ivory

1.0 out of 5 stars Scam price for tiny lamp, January 13, 2014
This item (offered here by Collectable Racing Books?!)is a former Mainstays lamp sold exclusively by Walmart but now branded by Better Homes & Garden. I own several of them, was looking for another on Amazon. The lamp is still available from Walmart at $24.95. It is small, only 15" tall, weighs perhaps four pounds not 65lbs as stated here, so the shipping price of $36.99 is as absurd as the price of the lamp, which is listed by Collectables Racing Books at $249.99 discounted to $59.99. My guess is they are buying from Walmart and marking up on Amazon. How are they getting away with this?

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work, November 5, 2012
I bought an early edition of this book 22 years ago when I met my future wife. I did not come from a family of animal lovers. She had two cats. She was not offended by the book, even mustered a wry smile for some of the more outrageous (and hilarious) cartoons. Together, we went on to own six cats and five dogs. At the apex: four cats and three dogs under one roof. We've moved around the country a bit (like transporting a kennel) and somehow this book was lost. Which is okay, because it clearly did not work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gazarra at the top of his game, a great little film, March 11, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Saint Jack (DVD)
Ben Gazarra plays a charming, roguish American ex-pat trying to find the American dream in Singapore. He's a hustler on the periphery who wants to open his own house and get off the edge.

He does, and how it all works out is what this film is about. That and a test of character, in this case, of a man you would not expect would have any.

It's a Bogdanovich film and a fine one. The director also has a supporting role as an arrogant power broker, and a sleaze. He plays it (ahem) very well. The script is a fine adaptation of the Theroux book.

The film would not have made it without U.K.'s Denholm Elliott, whose world-weary visiting Brit helps define Gazarra's role.

Elliott, after nearing passing out from the Asian heat and being ministered to by Gazarra: "Say, Jack, do you know where I might find a game of squash?"

Gazarra, with cigar, whiskey, and a wry smile: "Squash? The man can barely breathe and he wants to play squash...I'll see what I can do, Willie."

That's Jack Flowers, a man who makes a precarious living by seeing what he can do for people

The mood of the East in this film is beautifully created...from the chatter on the streets to the foghorns in the harbor.

"Saint Jack" came and went upon theater release but I saw it and then bought the VHS, now the DVD. I wouldn't be without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is Don Cheadle in this movie? YES! He STARS!!, March 11, 2009
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the first big film role for the great Don Cheadle, whose name is buried in the official promo material for "Rebound." He was an unknown at the time, so Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who has no real role, gets top feature. What the--?!

For me, Cheadle is the film. Excellent script, supporting actors, direction...but it's Cheadle's movie as a Harlem playground basketball genius. And he shows why he became an actor of distinction.

It helps a lot that Cheadle can play. At least, it sure looks like it. The story is tragic, but this movie just loves basketball. The court scenes are terrific. On the playground, in organized games.

As a boy, Manigault had the idea of practicing with ankle weights to strengthen his legs. He is finally allowed into a pickup game of older players. "Yeah, allright, you take him." Every ball kid's dream.

There is another where he takes a bet on how high he can jump. Memorable.

"Rebound" celebrates the game and one of the gifted men who played it and loved it. In all respects it's right up there with "Hoosiers."

5.0 out of 5 stars A sort of snob who doesn't watch tv series, except for "Burn Notice", March 11, 2009
This review is from: Burn Notice: Season 2 (DVD)
I don't watch television series. Sports, documentaries, subscription movie channels, yes...never a tv series on a weekly, don't-miss basis (well, "NYPD Blue" the first year until that fool Caruso left).

I watch "Burn Notice." Every week. The first season of this spy action/comedy/drama about a spy who is "burned" or thrown into the street by his agency for reasons he cannot fathom was very good. That brought more budget. For second season that means better stunt and action scenes. And the show has even more humor.

Just finished the final hilarious, dramatic, edge-of-the-seat episode in the Carla theme. As good as a first-run theater production. Better, actually. Certainly better than Daniel Craig's James Bond franchise, which is cliched and takes itself way too seriously. "Burn" gives you real people you can care about. Unexpected things happen. Unexpected things are said.

What is top-flight is the quirky cast of characters that continues to develop...solid actors, main and supporting (Jeffrey Donovan of "Touching Evil" finds a winner here)...scripts that surprise with their humor and drama...direction that doesn't try to be too cute...eclectic sound track. That should do it.

If the concluding Carla episode doesn't win an Emmy, there is something wrong with the television industry. And of course for my money, there is. But I'm sort of a snob I guess. Which is why I don't watch tv series.

Except for "Burn Notice."
