5.0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking Guide to Reconnecting with God, November 11, 2014
Guru Deepak Chopra thinks God is in trouble. Uh oh. But he’s got the solution to the problem in The Future of God. Chopra believes that in the skeptical age we live in, the traditional view of God may be somewhat outdated. While this idea may ruffle some feathers, he explains that the best path to God may just need an adjustment.

The Future of God focuses on a path that takes people through three stages. Stage 1 is Unbelief (you do not believe in God), Stage 2 is Faith (you hope there is a God), and Stage 3 is Belief (you have no doubt that God exists). Chopra believes that all stages are necessary to fully realize a relationship with God.

But this book is not just about spiritual paths. Chopra also works to disprove militant atheists who to try disprove religion and introduces modern science and the power of the mind into the conversation. The world of today can be a confusing place and if you are one who follows Chopras ideas on faith and God, The Future of God will make a useful and thought-provoking guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars very well done and interesting, January 7, 2014
This review is from: The Central Park Five (DVD)
Compelling and tragic. I think the lead negative review raises some interesting questions of full disclosure and trying to really understand the prosecutions perspective, but still important viewing. I cried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Business Classic, January 7, 2014
I first bought this years ago. There is a reason Dick Levin has a following. Some of the prices are dated, but the concepts are timeless. Read it and profit. NOTE: There is another edition of the exact same book for MUCH less: Buy Low, Sell High, Collect Early & Pay Late : The Manager's Guide to Financial Survival

4.0 out of 5 stars more suited for long article length, July 19, 2013
Fred R makes a strong case for making customer satisfaction the basis of your business and organization and looks at it from a variety of angles, which is helpful. But still there is padding here. So you can skim some.

5.0 out of 5 stars Disturbing but Captivating Read, July 19, 2013
In this engaging if disturbing piece of nonfiction, Kizzia captures the essence of the perverse Pilgrim clan that has indelibly marked Alaska and it no doubt will be remembered in tales of mythic proportion. Papa Pilgrim along with his wife and fifteen children sold themselves as a moralistic pack of holy-rollers when they first moved to Alaska; however, that façade soon vanished.

The family Patriarch, calling himself Papa Pilgrim, whose previous pregnant wife was found mysteriously shot in the head, had a less than upright past. After settling in McCarthy, Alaska, Papa Pilgrim decided to bulldoze a road into a state park and setup a meager one-room homestead there much to the government's and neighbors' dismay.

In harmony with outward unrest that the Pilgrim homestead created, much was amiss within it. Pilgrim's children were illiterate and sexually abused--many argue whether they were hostages or proud followers of their patriarch. In a land of seemingly endless frontier and self-invention, Papa Pilgrim pushed to the limits and ignited endless conflicts.

Kizzia's true account is one that captures the harrowing results of perverted libertarianism. A sense of place and landscape plays an integral role in this page-turner, as Alaska is in many ways a final frontier. If you enjoy true crime or tales of the more remote reaches of civilization, I recommend this book. Another engrossing account of life in the cold corners of the earth is Peter Freuchen's Arctic Adventure, in which Freuchen details his assimilation into Inuit life and culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meditation for Real Life Combat, July 19, 2013
Meditation for Warriors is a practical adaptation of meditation for modern combat. Christensen is a martial arts master who used his knowledge from the dojo and applied it to his service as a soldier in Vietnam and as a law enforcement officer.

You do not need any background in Buddhism or meditation to grasp the concepts presented herein--Christensen's provides sound practical advice that is easily applicable and devoid of all traces of New Age philosophy. If you want to learn how to calm your mind especially in real-life combat situations, this book is for you. Aikido practioners would do well to also look into The Philosophy of Aikido.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Elegant and Educated Perspective on Cocktails, July 19, 2013
Conigliaro's passionate depiction of the cocktail elevates bartending to an art form explaining how classic combos came to be, how they evolved, and why their ingredients work together so well. Conigliaro aims for these concoctions not only to be tasty but also to have a delicate but delicious aroma. The sensory appeal doesn't stop there: this book is brimming with color photography that will inspire you to make (and consume) every one of these drinks. Cocktail Lab has a wonderfully comprehensive balance of classic drinks along with Conigliaro's innovative modern concoctions. This book is a real treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Hoped for More, but Worthwhile-ish, February 21, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'd been aware of the good roshi's book for years and finally got a copy. Truth is I haven't read the whole thing and only listened to part of the CD, but I wasn't feeling compelled. I someone was expecting more from the method. It may be one of those things you need to be there with him to truly make the necessary shift. One book I had that shift with was Buddhism Plain and Simple

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Storytelling, Could Use a Bit More Depth, February 21, 2013
Laura H is a master storyeteller, keeping you turning the pages. She has a warm style and is a great researcher. For all these reasons this is a compelling read. But it doesn't really plumb the depths of Louie's psychology--and perhaps that wasn't a real option. Still well recommended. IF you don't know, also ck out: Seabiscuit

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Method/s For Easing Pain, January 28, 2013
For starters, there are a few things you may find helpful to know about the MELT Method. First, MELT is an acronym for Myofascial Energetic Length Technique. In other words, the method works to bring our connective tissues back to health--a key to healing many tension based ailments. Developed from her own her intuitive gifts and an impressive dedication to healing sciences and bodywork, Sue Hittzman has created "exercises" to help hydrate and restore your connective tissues, which eases or eliminates your pain.

I put "exercises" in quotes because the MELT method isn't about exercises in the aerobic classes or Pilates sense, but think more along the lines of relaxation and self-massage techniques. Sue Hitzman's goal was to create a self-help method which had similar results to her hands-on sessions. You should also know it does require a relatively small investment in equipment to get started; namely you'll need a soft foam roller and a small ball.

Sue Hitzman to re-create the effectiveness of her hands-on work in a self-help format. MELT restores the supportiveness of the body's connective tissue to combat chronic pain, improve performance, and decrease the accumulation of stress caused by repetitive postures and movements of everyday living.

My physical therapist introduced me to the Melt method several months ago. I had suffered from severe anxiety and insomnia and it was beginning to morph into chronic muscle tension that was, at the very least, debilitating. At one point I was told by a practitioner that this could possibly be a precursor to Fibromyalgia. That's when I got really worried and took up the physical therapist suggestion to try the Melt method.

Almost immediately my insomnia began to improve and my muscle tension began to ease up. Through discipline and commitment to the Melt method I eventually lowered by anxiety medication. I am still committed to the practice and believe that soon I will be free of all of my symptoms. I cannot say for sure if my symptoms were a precursor to Fibromyalgia or another type of auto immune disease but it certainly felt like I was heading down that road. Back then I felt that my body was, in fact, attacking itself. I no longer feel that way. I would recommend Hittzman's book to anyone that has dealt with anxiety, insomnia, neurological disorders, muscle tension/pain, and/or any other type of related issue. Life is too short to live with pain when there are potential solutions. Through a combination of proper hydration and free our muscles from tension, we can heal ourselves--or get much further down that road.

In addition to the Melt Method, two other books that you may find helpful: Get Fit in Bed: Tone Your Body & Calm Your Mind from the Comfort of Your Bed and The Miracle Ball Method: Relieve Your Pain, Reshape Your Body, Reduce Your Stress [2 Miracle Balls Included]. I wish you best of health and hope you find this review helpful!
