5.0 out of 5 stars Counter culture!, October 26, 2006
I really like this magazine because it presents the twist on a lot of the images that surround our everyday life. It is definitly an "ad buster" in that it dissects the media, advertising, and the political issues in our contemporary society. Its not a "conspiracy theory" sort of magazine either, in that it flaunts ideas that are just ridiculous.

As far as the price goes, I'll defend it. A lot of these magazines are expensive because their expenses aren't being compensated for by other companies. If you don't want to spend the whole $45, just pick up 2-3 issues and read those over.

I also recommend that one who reads it not take it literally to heart and, well become obsessed with it. There are definitly a lot of strong, thought provoking ideas in here that will get the reader a bit emotional. A lot of politics can get emotional, and its imperative that one is able to seperate reality and their emotions, not let them mesh together.

Overall, the magazine is a great way to understand our society and culture, and I recommend it to anyone who questions the modern world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Le Sigh, July 1, 2005
This review is from: Fishermans Woman (Audio CD)
I love this album because Emiliana's music takes a more Nick Drakesque turn. It's very deep, and its quite sweet, I listen to it every night before I go to bed because it's so comforting. The music is an acoustic guitar, sometimes accompanied by a piano or bass. The lyrics are the real draw to her music, My favorite song thus far is "fisherman's woman" because of the description in the lyrics. My caution in regards to this album is that if your used to her more electronic music,or your used to music with a bit more of a beat, then this album IS NOT for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Crap, April 16, 2005
I think the number one thing that struck me about this book was how quick the author was to put Lennon's life under such a negative light. In just the prologue he lists various sexual encounters Lennon experianced. It seems like the author is more interested in schocking the reader, then giving a good biography. Many of the experiances listed are ones the witnesses claimed to have seen or been involved in. Anybody can make something up about John Lennon. I mean its quite easy for any individual who lived in New York around Lennons time to say " I had sex with John Lennon". Pure crap. I don not recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brush daily for white teeth, May 15, 2004
This review is from: White Teeth: A Novel (Paperback)
This book is must read for any desi, african american, muslim, arab etc. minority. it's funny, insightful and tackles the awkwardness minorities encounter while trying to assimilate themselves into the English or American culture. I love the humorous situations that the characters find themselves in. and the worst part is knowing that i'm all too familiar with them!
I didn't understand the ending, but after a bit of thinking, i may have grasped it.

2.0 out of 5 stars There are better movies, May 15, 2004
This review is from: Devdas (DVD)
Devdas is a lot like any other indian movie. A farfetched love story, weak plot, and stupid acting. The characters can be clearly defined under a catagory of good or bad. Sharukh Kahn's acting is predictable and sappy. Aishwariya Rai's acting seems to lack in depth. As for Madhuri, she sticks to her usual routine of smiling and acting innocent. The jewelry, clothing and decor is lovely. However if you notice, in the song DOLA RE DOLA, the curtains are off center. On the plus side, the songs are absolutly magnificent, with great choreography (esp. in DOLA RE DOLA). If u really want to watch a good indian movie, I suggest Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. It's beginning may be cheesy, but the ending is magnificent.
