4.0 out of 5 stars Pioneers Of The Funk- Rock -Hip Hop Crossover, March 18, 2004
This review is from: She Wants to Move (Audio CD)
N*E*R*D are back, and in a big way. The first single to be taken off their highly anticipated 'Fly Or Die' album, if this song is anything to go by, they still achieve the rare feat of sounding like nothing else in the charts. The first listen may put people off but its definately a grower, getting better with each spin - a sign of appreciating the music. The DFA remix of 'She Wants To Move' included nearly makes it even better than it already is, giving it a more catchy electro backdrop. Also included on this single is a Jason Nevins remix of 'Rock Star'- a dancehall anthem and absolutely brilliant. Just to own the remix is worth the purchase alone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Debut Single From ''Guy'Dol'' Sebastian, January 7, 2004
This review is from: Angels Brought Me Here (Audio CD)
Debut single from Guy Sebastian is basically a ballad by numbers. It is Guy's unique voice that saves this sappy number. Most would be ashamed to call this song their own but Guy keeps it together without losing grip and (un)suprisingly pulls it off. One of the more weaker tracks off 'Just As I Am' - a wiser decision would be to buy his fantastic debut album. ***

4.0 out of 5 stars A flawed yet amazing DVD showcasing the King Of Pop's videos, January 7, 2004
This review is from: Michael Jackson: Number Ones (DVD)
Yes, the classics are back - from Billie Jean to You Rock My World but unfortunately so is the filler - from Earth Song to Blood On The Dancefloor. Songs such as 'Scream' or 'Who Is It' should of made the cut.
This collection would have been given a sure-fire 5 stars but unfortunately the quality of this DVD does not reach the standard. There are no special features and the video version of 'Smooth Criminal' is a disgrace. Its a reminder that Michael Jackson's videos were definately ground breaking at the time and spectacular in every sense of the word. A must have purcase, buy it with 'Dangerous - The Short Films'.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Step In The Right Direction, January 7, 2004
This review is from: One More Chance (Audio CD)
After dissapointing sales of 'Invincible' (One More Chance was a track recorded for that album) Jackson's attempt to show everyone how good his songs are, 'Number Ones' may be, allegations aside hopefully is a stepping stone to a new Michael Jackson with fresh material set to put the embarrassment that was 'Invincible' an 'album between albums' and nothing more.
The new single from the eccentric super star may not break new ground like alot of his past efforts but it is a good, not great song with a pleasant, catchy chorus. It won't be a huge seller but will tell his fans that the King Of Pop still has a lot left in him.

4.0 out of 5 stars Australian Idol Guy Sebastian Delivers, January 7, 2004
This review is from: Just As I Am (Audio CD)
Who would of thought? Over the past few years the credibility of pop music had come to an all time low as music related reality programs such as 'Popstars' focused more on the persons appearance than their vocal ability. In all honesty Guy would not have made past the first round.
Then along came the spectacle that was 'Australian Idol' - although it seemed slow in the beginning, once down to the final 12 it was must-watch television that put 'Popstars' to shame. The final 12 without a doubt could all sing but it was the most talented of them all; a very deserving Guy Sebastian that took the crown in front of millions of viewers. A truly gifted, credible artist discovered by a reality program? Believe it.
But that is now history and Guy's debut album has been unleashed. Although recorded in only 6 days to make sure its out before christmas rush, it definately does not sound rushed in any way, sounding like his been doing it for years. The first single 'Angels Brought Me Here' may be a ballad high on the cheese-o-meter but his vocal ability saves it from falling flat.
Highlights include the poptastic 'All I Need Is You' the surprisingly lush cover of the Prince classic 'When Doves Cry' funky 'I 4 u' '3 Words' 'Something Dont Feel Right' and a lyrically touching 'My Beautiful Friend'. The only tracks that fall short of being truly excellent and settle for average are the experimental cover 'What A Wonderful World'(why he sang this song on World Idol is no fault but he's own) and the title track.
Overall though, after a few spins you'll be hooked. Suprisingly textured yet never tarnished, Guy proudly showcases he is Australia's rough diamond, a true Australian Idol and in many peoples eyes; World Idol.
The followup to this album I expect will be far beyond everyones expectation.
