5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of climate's effects on human culture, September 30, 2007
This slim volume by Brian Fagan provides an excellent overview of the changes in climate effecting human culture over hundreds and thousands of years. The climate changes are shown with their global and regional effects. Professor Fagan then relates the geological changes to gross changes in human culture such as the switch from a hunter-gatherer culture to a settled development of agriculture. He proposes that drought is one of the causes of the growth of cities from villages.

This book could be of benefit in World History, American History, and European History classes in addition to basic enviromental science classes.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a small quick book easy to use., May 14, 2007
I am just beginning to trace my ancestors to the French-German border area. I found the background history in this book to be helpful in giving me insight into why my ancestors may have left their homes to come to America. The contacts and sources suggested later in the book likewise provide me a good starting point for dealing with foreign leads.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a good overview of corporations for individuals, May 14, 2007
I found this to be a good overview of corporations usage for individuals. It has certain tilt to using Utah corporations that may be biased by the author's home state. But the insights offered are valid business considerations. The author's views should be discussed together jointly with your accountant and attorney.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good background history of the Scots coming to America., February 6, 2007
This book is an professional historian's view of the culture of the poor Scots exodus from their provety in Scotland through Ireland and onwards to America. The book replaces myths and folk tales with historical facts and a professional's interpretation of the meaning of this mass migration.

I found it enlightening background for why my ancestors from Scotland left to seek the good life in the wilderness of West Augusta County, Virginia.
