5.0 out of 5 stars Lean muscle, December 22, 2010
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is an intense workout that is good for building a lean muscular body with a flat stomach and gaining strength. However, if you are after building muscle mass to get big, then this DVD is not for you. But if you want a lean, ripped body, it will help you achieve your goals if you follow it through.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Evening of Magnetic Movie..., September 28, 2007
This review is from: Evening (DVD)
Evening: A star-studded film from the director Lajos Koltai; a poetic master piece with Vanessa Redgrave, Glenn Close and Meryl Streep in towering roles. It tells the story of friendships, doomed relationships and secret loves that end with broken hearts. The story is being told like a water color painting set in 1950s upper class East Coast America.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality weightlifting glove...., September 27, 2007
I bought these gloves after reading the reviews, but once I received them I was very disappointed with the quality. They are made of low quality synthetic materials and they do not assist one in lifting weights comfortably. This product should be avoided by those serious about fitness training. You can find better training gloves at discount sports stores that are made of real leather for the same price which give you better grip. My personal trainer bought me such a pair from a sports outlet for $18 and they are fantastic.

4.0 out of 5 stars The modern look of British upper-class men..., September 22, 2007
This review is from: Mr. Classic (Hardcover)
This is a book for men who knows and appreciates the finer things in the British way of life. It portrays the upper crust image of British men and their clothing sense. Those who know about Sloan-Rangers or upper middle class Brits will recognize the style immediately. The men from the upper crust of the British society have always twisted the classical style and managed to introduce to their wardrobes items like red socks, red pair of trousers or pink cashmere sweaters; floral pocket squares and lately flip-flops. So it should not come to you as a surprise, if you see a well healed British man wearing flip-flops with an evening jacket or a high powered financier wearing red socks with his pin stripped suit. Nowawadays, the young British men of agreeable background have also taken into wearing jewelry in a discrete way with their casual outfits. This movement is being spear headed by the young Royals. In short, Mr. Classic by Jeremy Hackett is a celebration of the new clothing style among the upper crust Brits. Those of us who have gone through the British boarding school system or studied at British universities will enjoy this book immensely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thumps up for this cool coffee device..., March 26, 2007
I purchased this gadget from [...] after reading the reviews on amazon.com and coffeegeek.com. At first I was skeptical because in the past I bought items based on reviews but I was not too satisfied with them. However, after putting my brand new Aeropress Coffee and Espresso Maker to use today I can vouch that it delivers the best coffee you can possibly make at home without a professional quality espresso machine. The coffee comes out very smooth and without any bitterness. I was truly amazed that such a simple and unassuming gadget will deliver such excellent results. I can tell you that there is a very strong coffee culture in my family and wherever we travel around the globe (and we do travel a lot), we search for a strong cup of coffee and try to experience new methods of making coffee. As a result I have many coffee gadgets, but Aeropress puts to shame all except my steel Piazza Stovetop Espresso Maker. Two points of caution: if you like a strong cup of coffee as I do, then you need to use two and a half scoops of coffee and not just one; secondly this product does not make an espresso, it simply makes a very flavorful, smooth drip style coffee.

This is a well made plastic product which is manufactured here in USA. However, I wish it was made of steel. I love sleek brushed steel kitchen gadgets

5.0 out of 5 stars World Cooking at your finger tips..., January 10, 2007
I received this wonderful cookbook from a friend as a New Year present. It is almost an encyclopedia of world culinary heritage. The book has more than 500 recipes from sixty top chefs from forty countries, with over 4000 color photographs. Each dish is accompanied by step-by-step instructions which make it easy for an average cook to follow the instructions and help improve the technique of novice cooks. It is a great resource for those food lovers who love experimenting on different culinary traditions and bring back home some of those dishes that you may have come across on your travels.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fish and Shellfish cooked to perfection..., May 25, 2006
The Big Book of Fish and Shellfish is written by a cooking school teacher and food writer. There are no pictures in this cookbook but lots of fish and shell fish recipes, that are fool proof and plenty of tips to guide you to perfect your cooking skills.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expensive Mistake!, May 5, 2006
The Venta-Airwasher may be good as a humidifier in countries like Germany where it is extremely cold in winter and the heating stays on 24 hours round the clock, thus there is a continuous need to replace the replenished humidity in the air. But here in San Francisco the weather is mild and we have plenty of humidity in the air due to fog and there is no need to keep heating on 24 hours. If one airs one's apartment on a regular basis, one would have sufficient humidity in doors. What we need here is a good solid air-purifier to clean the allergens, dust, etc from the air.

The problem with the Airwasher is that it has no separate button to turn off the humidifier section when the room gets saturated with humidity. Secondly, there is no thermostat built in to check and turn off the machine when the humidity reaches the optimum level in the room. Because both humidifier and air cleaner are one, you can't separate the two. Thus if you keep on running the machine after saturation point, you'll get mold all over the walls and clothes. Even my clothes in my wardrobe were wet. I had to stop using the machine. For the past two weeks I could hardly find clothes to wear that were dry. Thirdly, what they don't tell you on their web site and publicity brochures is that this machine requires an expensive chemical substance added to the water chamber on a regular basis otherwise it won't clean the air. But even then, this machine is more of a humidifier than an air cleaner. After two weeks of use I noticed almost no residue in the water chamber, i.e. it did not clean the air at all. I felt the change that air was getting cleaner once I operated the new Sharper Image Hybrid GP Germicidal Air Purifier. I am glad that I bought two different machines to try. Now I know.

By the way, the Venta-Airwasher has not been tested by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM)or the US Environmental Protection Agency or the [...] for Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). When I called the company in Illinois and asked why, I was told that their technology is different than the competition that's why. Well, if you believe in that excuse go and buy this machine and see it for yourself. The machine is made of plastic and is very basic.

French Tarts: 50 Savory and Sweet Recipes
French Tarts: 50 Savory and Sweet Recipes

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a good collection of recipes..., May 4, 2006
Mediocre cookbook; I lived in Paris and I can tell you that the recipes in Linda Dannenberg's French Tarts are not the best collection on the subject. I have been a fan of Linda Dannenberg's books ever since I took interest in collecting cookbooks five years ago and was very disappointed with her work on French Tarts. I think one would be better off to try to find a cookbook written by a French chef on this subject, because tarts to be perfect they need to be well balanced in taste and texture and must be very precisely prepared.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pure Turkish gastronomical journey through the pages of chef Ozan's book!, April 25, 2006
When I ordered The Sultan's Kitchen on Amazon.com, at first I was skeptical because most cookbooks on Turkish cuisine published in English are not very authentic. But I was wrong; this book is full of authentic Turkish recipes adapted for use in North American kitchens. It is a beautifully produced cookbook, full of color and glossy photographs of finished dishes. No detail is overlooked in the production of this book. It is such a beautiful cookbook that one could easily display on one's coffee table. However, the real strength of this book lies in the precision of its recipes. The author who is a celebrity chef in Boston, has gone in great length in producing a Turkish cookbook that will allow even a moderately skilled cook to produce sumptuous Turkish dishes at home. This book is all about flavor. This is a kind of book that not only home cooks but professional chefs alike will find very beneficial. The recipes in the book harmoniously blend together, so one could easily mix and match various dishes in creating menus when entertaining others. However, the author even compiled suggested menus for different seasons of the year to ease the task of the reader.

Chef Ozcan Ozan's book does a good job in presenting the reader with an insight into rustic classical cooking in Turkey, but does not address the new style Turkish cuisine one finds in big metropolitan cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara and Adana in modern day Turkey. I guess with ever changing life styles, Turkish cuisine is also evolving all the time just like French and Italian cuisines. Turkish cuisine undoubtedly is one of the greatest cuisines in the world together with French and Chinese cuisines. One could find its influence on other ethnic cuisines all over Balkan countries and the Middle East, due to long rule of Ottoman Empire in that region. In fact, the origin of so many Greek dishes that we come to know in America lies in Turkish cuisine. Unfortunately, unlike Europe, Turkish food remains a relative mystery in North America because of the small size of the Turkish American community. But as the globalization deepens, we can expect to hear more about this flavorful and healthy South-East European cuisine in future. Turkish cuisine is one of the last fronts that American culinary experts have yet to discover. It is a cuisine that is at par with French cuisine if not better in sophistication, texture, flavor and this book provides us with a glimpse of that rich culinary culture. So far this book is my favorite Turkish cookbook published by a Turkish American author. Just try few dishes from The Sultan's Kitchen and you'll see what I mean!

Here is a list of what you'll find in The Sultan's Kitchen:

Preface

Introduction - Suggested menus

Turkish ingredients

Sauces and condiments

Appetizers (called Mezes in Turkish)

Breads and boreks (savory pastries)

Soups

Lamb, beef and chicken

Seafood

Pilafs (rice dishes)

Salads

Desserts, fruit compotes, and drinks

Resources and acknowledgements

Index

As you can see the recipes in this concise book are varied and wonderful and when you purchase the book, you will be in for a truly Turkish flavor blast. Many of the treats will linger in your memory long after you finish dining. One savors the Mediterranean aromas of herbs and spices and others that are uniquely Turkish in the dishes of chef Ozcan Ozan.
