4.0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its publicity, March 20, 2015

As advertised, this is a cute and humorous story, in which an amateur "Nancy Drew" solves a murder in her own bumbling way. It was entertaining light reading.

This review is from: The Man (Kindle Edition)
This book, about "the first Negro president," is well-written and researched, and held my interest throughout. It's fascinating to look back on those times, when the Negro president took office through a series of accidents, from today's perspective of the administration of the first black president, popularly elected for two terms. Unfortunately, some of the racial hatred described in the book still exists today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sci-Fi Classic, March 10, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I read this years ago after seeing a TV production of it, so when it came up on Book Bub, I decided to read it again on my Kindle. The story of a man whose dreams change reality is just as good now as it was back then. (As an aside, I have been puzzled by the meaning of the title and found out that it's a mis-translation of the Chinese, since there were no lathes in China in the time of Lao-Tse, who is quoted in the book.)

5.0 out of 5 stars First-rate Detective Story, March 4, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I found the beginning a little slow and hard to get into, but once past the first few pages, I found the story of a man framed for two murders to be fascinating. The characters are all well-drawn, and as the reason for the framing was slowly revealed, I found it hard to put down. A little history revealed as part of the story makes the book even more star-worthy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a good whodunit, February 28, 2015

This whodunit kept me guessing, but I found the ending to be unsatisfactory, and found the graphic sex scenes to be gratuitous.

I like these simple acrylic frames for small photos, and wanted to get one this size for a small school photo, but couldn't find a frame this size in any local shops. I was delighted to find the one I wanted on Amazon, and it fits the photo just right.

4.0 out of 5 stars Britain in World War II, told well., February 22, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Evocative story of Britain during World War II--children evacuated from London, rationing, air raids and the like, told authentically. I believe that the title is from the WWII song, "There'll be blue skies over the white cliffs of Dover." I enjoyed reading it.

MODERN WOMEN (Park Avenue Series, Book #4)
MODERN WOMEN (Park Avenue Series, Book #4)
Price: $3.49

4.0 out of 5 stars Tongue-in-cheek history of the fifties through the eighties seen through the eyes of three women, February 18, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There is subtle humor in this tale of the adventures and affairs of three ambitious women growing up in an era when the only career a woman could have in the business world was as a secretary. It was more plot than character study, but entertaining to read.

THE ANGEL OF ZIN -- A Holocaust Mystery
THE ANGEL OF ZIN -- A Holocaust Mystery
Price: $2.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling holocaust story, February 18, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A German detective is sent to the (fictional but representative) Zin concentration camp to solve a pair of murders and the mysterious messages that accompanied them from the "Angel of Death." At the camp, we meet a raft of characters, both Jews and Nazis, each well-drawn and individualized. The detective is appalled by the cruelty of the Nazi overseers, while the Jews are plotting an uprising. The story is compelling and realistic.
