4.0 out of 5 stars great travel book, May 22, 2014

While searching for a book to read during a vacation to Rome and Venice, I came across this book. Years earlier, I heard Bill Clinton speak and among the authors he reads, he recommended Silva. The book brought to life many of the places we visited on our trip, among them the Vatican and Jewish ghettos. It was fast-paced and good escapist reading.

If you love Roddy Doyle, his fractured characters, and Irish dialog to spare, this book is a must-read work. You will laugh out loud and not stop turning the pages. Almost a screenplay, let's hope to see it in theaters before too long.

Joshua Redman continues to expand his range with this recording. Using the best sideman and a full string accompaniment, Mr. Redman pushes into a group of tunes that are listenable, interesting, and musical explorations of classics and new standards. In a way, this album widens the turf explored by Charlie Parker and others, but Redman's lyricism stretches the genre even further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big band music is alive and well in Brooklyn, June 25, 2013

A concept album that the listener will find more interesting with each listen. I only wish there were a movie or video game to go with it. Argue has gathered a group of fine musicians and challenged them with difficult music that gathers threads from Eastern Europe to '60s pyschedelia. This is not your dad's Basie, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, or Toshiko Akiyoshi big band but it respects the past and extrapolates it extravagantly. Thank to Studio 360 for putting this on my radar screen.

All fine but the usual spelling is "dreidel." If you're going to offer it, you should get the details right.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works., May 11, 2012

The OEM power cord on our Kindle disintegrated after a plane ride. The white wire-shielding literally broke off in pieces, exposing bare wire. We called for a replacement and it was delivered at no charge. The question is why the original unit failed. The replacement works just fine but we will keep an eye out for wear and tear.

Herbie and company lay it down and leave it there. Always tight and edgy but groovy as ever. When played on the car stereo you will turn heads and find yourself cool on the hottest summer day. As if I have to tell you, buying the few cuts individually is a whole lot cheaper than downloading the album as a whole.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, August 17, 2011

This dehumidifier does a creditable job of removing moisture from the air and pumping the water where you need it to go. The unit is easy to install and adjust. It is not-too-unattractive in white ABS. We now have two of these units and both work well. The trade-off is that the units generate a small amount of heat and noise. The heat is welcome in a winter basement but less-so in the summer. Fan-noise is never welcomed by me, though some may like the "white noise" effect. Regardless, these two negatives are much less objectionable than dehumidifiers of yesteryear and trumped by the lower energy consumption of this unit.

One caveat is that the pump must be re-started manually (by simply pushing a button) whenever the unit is restarted after a shutdown. If the pump is not reactivated, the unit will fill up with water and then must be emptied manually when full.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied, November 2, 2010

We bought this unit to replace a 25-year-old unit that seemed to have stopped working effectively. The DeLonghi is much more efficient than our old unit at controlling humidity precisely, since the desired humidity level can be specified numerically. The pump feature allows one to leave the unit on the floor, where it is most needed, and conveniently move condensate from the reservoir to a drainage point (in our case a utility sink a few feet higher). This feature eliminates the need to empty the tank ever. In addition, this unit is lighter, quieter, and more attractive than our old unit. Our basement has never smelled better and we are much less concerned about mold and mildew. Since it is relatively new we are not sure how it will stand up over time, though it seems sturdy enough. In addition, we wish it had been made in USA. Our first impression, however, is overwhelmingly positive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every American should read this book, August 28, 2009

I was given "Three Cups" by a good friend. Taken with the story and not content simply to return the book, I bought two more copies to give to friends in the hopes that they too would pass the books along. This is a true story of an admittedly flawed person trying--and often succeeding--in making the world a slightly better place. Most Americans have a very limited understanding of other cultures, regions, religions, and political situations. Greg Mortensen's story shows that any of us can play a part in correcting this--and by doing so, promoting peace, tolerance, education, and harmony.
