5.0 out of 5 stars Great Halo Vehicle Kit, August 2, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
This is my first Mega Bloks kit, but I have assembled a lot of Lego and K'Nex kits. What a cool vehicle this is! Certainly any serious Halo fan, or kids (or adults) that enjoy brick building will like this. The spring suspension in particular is a nice touch. I would say this kit is harder than a normal Lego kit for the same age group, due to the large numbers of different piece types. The figures in particular took me awhile to figure out as they didn't include step-by-step directions, so even though they are first in the directions, for inexperienced builders you may want to leave them for last. Otherwise, it's a great kit and an awesome 'Hog model.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Ideal Companion for Keeping my Drinks Cool Away from Home, July 30, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Many of us remember these Thermos bottles from childhood, as other reviewers have mentioned, this is not quite the same quality, but I find it only to be slightly less well made. The handle in particular is kind of clunky and tends to get stuck on one end when I try to pull it out or push it in. I use similar stainless steel sports bottles to keep my drinks in the car cool, particularly this time of year when it is so hot, but those are much smaller and don't even have enough room for a bottle of my favorite Sobe water with ice. This is ideal to bring along a whole day's worth of drinks to keep cool and refill my smaller sports bottle with. It doesn't quite make it 24 hours in a hot car, but definitely did the job for a 12 hour full day away from home test.

1.0 out of 5 stars Skip It, July 30, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
There is absolutely NO useful training information in this book at all. At best, it covers some different training methods and the importance of finding a good trainer, but that is information you can easily glean for yourself from many sources. In fact, go to the Wiki page on Dog Training and you will find almost the exact same run-down of types of training methods. It includes the Koeler method as a "potential" training method, which is very old-school punishment-based training and much of the text is written in a way that the average reader would have trouble understanding it. It also shows a photo of a collar that is a type that I would not use on 99% of puppies, and many other photos have little to do with the associated text. I could go on, but what it comes down to is that there's actually nothing that gives you information on HOW to actually train your dog to do anything. You can read this entire book in 5 minutes, and come out with pretty much nothing you wouldn't have known already and many things that would be best forgotten.

Take a look at all those 5-star reviews on this e-book. Every one of them is the ONLY review that the person has posted, and many of them are so poorly written as to be incomprehensible (they read like something written in another language and put through Google Translate). This is typical for someone that pays for 5-star reviews to be posted on their book to try and get people to buy it (just look how many of them refer to 'puppy preparing', a term I've never heard used before for training). Please please don't waste your money on this. If you want some good information on how to train your dog, go grab yourself a copy of Pat Miller's Power of Positive Dog Training instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Designed Quality File Folder, July 27, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I've been consistently impressed with the products I've gotten from Five Star to review for Amazon Vine. This is no exception. It's a fairly straightforward expanding file, but well designed to stand up to the abuse of being carried everywhere, and includes soft edges so you don't hurt yourself putting papers in and out, as well as tags with slide-in labels, so you can easily change the labels on the tabs. The design is colorful and fun. Really not much to improve on here.

3.0 out of 5 stars Little Girls will Certainly Love It, but Be Wary of the Messages Being Given, July 26, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I wasn't as impressed with this book as other reviewers. Now, as a young girl, I read ANYTHING that had to do with horses, particularly the entire Black Stallion series, Misty of Chincoteague, and other such classics. While this is written for an even earlier reader than those, it still came off as very stilted and simplistic in its writing. It has some nice information on what kinds of things you might have to do at a horse ranch to care for the animals, and certainly young girls will love it regardless because of the ponies and dogs that the story is about as well as the lavish illustrations, but the story just really lacked much creativity and charm, IMO. I compare it for instance with another book I reviewed recently for the same age group, Battle Bugs, which even an adult could read and be charmed with the imagination and inventiveness of the story, while still managing to educate along the way. While that book was more geared towards boys, it was the kind of story I particularly loved as a young reader myself, why is it that books for girls are so often far less interesting, domestic even, while boys are off having grand adventures? Perhaps it was because I reviewed these two books so close together that I could not help but feel let down as a girl that this story had so little of that. Ultimately the story seemed to be mostly about the girls misbehaving and fighting a lot and then in the end getting their way. The protagonist is repeatedly not following instructions and putting herself in very real danger (not to mention the animals which keep getting loose, which in the real world often leads to severe consequences), and then the adults actually just give in and let her have her way at the end. We see a pony that is actually rearing up when being brushed (something that could cause a child very serious harm) and just a short time later in the story, she is actually being allowed to ride the pony. Not only is it unbelievably unrealistic, I think it sends a very bad message to young readers about the importance of following the rules, particularly around animals like horses and ponies that can seriously injure them, and that if they just keep nagging about what they want, the adults will just give in. Not the kind of lesson I would want for a young girl. I hope that future books in the series will take a bit of a different approach and teach some better lessons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Starter Laptop at a Bargain Price, July 24, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
There's not a whole lot of difference with Chromebooks in terms of the programs you get installed, it's kind of a relief in fact to not book up a computer and find it full of crap I need to remove! Chromebooks are particularly good for kids as a first laptop and will serve them well even through college. It does rely on having internet, don't expect to be able to do much with one of these away from a wifi signal. But that does mean as well being able to work on the cloud a lot which is how it gets away with a fairly minimal amount of onboard storage. It includes a 100gig Google Cloud account (free for the first 2 years), so you will have plenty of online storage for photos and documents. Don't expect to be able to do really serious MS Office work on it, unless you plan to subscribe to the MS Office Cloud as well though, Google's versions are fine for very basic docs but definitely will not work with more complicated Office needs.

I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the laptop, it's very fast, since it's running off Flash storage only. Display is decent, if not excellent, for the price. Instead of a row of F-function keys the keyboard has action keys for back, forward, mute, full screen, etc. The keyboard was reasonably spacious and the touchpad worked well. Really the only thing I noticed that I would have changed is some kind of small cutout on the front edge to make opening it a bit easier. Overall, an excellent device for the price, as long as you keep in mind its limitations.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Notebook but NOT 8.5x11, July 20, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I really like the design of this notebook but as other reviewers have mentioned it is NOT 8.5x11 letter sized paper, but the smaller 9.5x 6 size. Ironically though the price is less on what is supposed to be the larger size that the listings I found for the smaller size (almost the same but has a corner tab feature this one does not include): http://www.amazon.com/Five-Star-2-Subject-College-Ruled-72851/dp/B005QAV6YI

Size issues aside though, I really like this notebook. Very ingenious covering up the spine which also allows you to label it easily as well. It includes tabs with pockets that are designed so you can move them and the pages are all perforated for easy removal. A really nicely designed notebook although not sure I'd pay the price with shipping if you can't get it directly from Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does the Job but Seems Very Overpriced, July 18, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I have a different Hoover carpet cleaner that is no longer working after a couple years of light use, so I will be curious to see if this works better. But first impressions, I'm not thrilled. First, the "clip" to hold the power cord is so thin, I could not get the cord into it no matter how hard I tried. I don't think even a hammer would get that cord in there. As for the "commercial" designation, it doesn't seem any more heavy-duty than my other cleaner, and the cleaning compartments in particular lightweight plastic with seams that look prone to easily break apart with use. Even though it costs quite a bit compared to similar cleaners, it is missing a lot of features my other Hoover had including a hose attachment for doing stairs and upholstery. And more annoying, this is one of those cleaners that doesn't mix the cleaning fluid itself, so you have to do a rinse by throwing out any remaining cleaning fluid so you can refill it with clean water. Although, that seems to be where my last machine broke down, so perhaps I should be glad it doesn't do that! But that was just so much more convenient and less wasteful... when it did work. Given all that, it did clean my floors pretty well, I just am not sure the price is worth what you get.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hassle Free Parchment Sheets, July 18, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I really like the convenience of these baking sheets, they are great for cookie baking to prevent sticking without using grease, and works with cookies that do not bake well on silpats. They are folded so I use a little Crisco on the pan to hold them down, but they still work better with less hassle for me than rolled parchment.

Love these treats, they are soft and easy to tear into smaller pieces, I like to use them in various toys designed to hold treats like Everlasting Ball or the new Kong toys. The dogs seem to really enjoy the taste!
