5.0 out of 5 stars Extending the Business Model Framework into Innovation, January 22, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Fans of Osterwalder's Business Model work will love this book. it follows the same style with Stylized graphics, pithy and pointed chapters and a focus on illustration rather than argument. This is a tool-kit book that is best skimmed and then used as a reference rather and read and absorbed. One way to look at this book is its really an "app" in disguise pointing to tools, situations etc.

The nature of the material and its graphic orientation works better as an actual book rather than as an ebook. Not to knock the Kindle, but the format and content just works better this way as you will want to share and pass it around on a project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well constructed, clear installation instructions, January 5, 2016
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Solid performer that works well with our luggage rack. There has been no snow lately so not a lot of opportunity to use my x country skis and therefore this rack. Will provide a more detailed review when the snow is there to get my ski's on the go.

3.0 out of 5 stars Taste the most like real crackers, December 23, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I gave these to a family member who need to eat gluten free to sample. She is a big fan of Ritz crackers but she had tried Lance crackers in the past. The verdict is that these taste a lot like Lance Cracker's Gluten counterparts. These are the most realistic gluten free product that she had tasted so recommended there. She sampled the full box. Good not great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, will update when we get enough snow, December 22, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I have been waiting to review these snowshoes as when I ordered them we had about a foot of snow. Now the snow is all gone so my review for now is focused on the nature of the shoes than their actual performance. I promise to update them once we get enough snow to test them out.

Three words describe these shoes: Light, flexible and different. Light in terms of their weight largely through the use of heavy guage plastic and light weight wire for the closure. I can see where I could put these onto a pack and then use as needed. Flexible as these shoes will fit just about any size boot. I ahve size 13/14 feet and they fit well and were readily adjustable. Different as these shoes support your weight front to back -- more like a telemark ski than the traditional tennis racket snowshoe. I am not sure how well the work -- no snow to test. The bottom of the shoe has multiple metal studs that help grip the snow and provide traction.

Overall a solid value, great for an entry person like me, but also great for casual use -- for example when you are done xcountry skiing and want to go off the beaten track.

4.0 out of 5 stars A high tech version of The Goal, provides a description of the future from policy pros rather than thriller authors., December 9, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
A CEO of a big company recommended that I read Ghost Fleet, not as a thriller per se but as a description of the types and ways in which technologies could be used in the near future. The first two thirds of the book do this job nicely, describing the various technologies in situations rather than artificial use cases of prototype stories. The authors are two policy people who advise the government on these issues.

This is a disruptive policy briefing book in the form of a Tom Clancy style novel, just like Goldratt's The Goal is a business novel around the Theory of Constraints. The technologies described are interesting and presented in an engaging style.. The book is a three star = pulp = if you were judging it just based on its narrative quality.

It you are reading this as a Tom Clancy replacement, then you will be disappointed as the ending and last third of the book is just not good.

If you are reading this book, as I was, being asked to see the future across computers, the web, biomedical devices, etc., then you will be in for a good, light and enlightening read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Alternative to a full sized drill, December 9, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Lightweight, easy to fit in the hand and easy to apply -- all exist in this B+D Tool. I tested the electric screwdriver and it works great on medium and light weight tasks. Hanging curtains or blinds, putting together furniture and other limited tasks are great. The pistol style design is much easier to use than the prior types of electric screwdrivers that looked like screwdrivers but here heavier and had an awkward weight distribution.

If you are looking to do heavy duty work, then you sill still need your regular drill with a screw driver attachment. I do not think this product was intended to replace a full sized or corded drill, so don't expect it to fill that task. Other than that, its good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five star if you like alternative histories, intellectual tension and complex stories, December 3, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Man in the High Castle (TMiHC) is a complex and easily misunderstood series as it takes more than an average amount of attention to get and keep everything straight. This is not easy watching as the story is just different enough that you have remind yourself of the premise -- this is common to other adaptations of Phillip K. Dick's works.

The series tries hard to make it a psychological thriller where the tension is more in the mind than in character actions. However, the need to show stuff on TV leads to some rather cheesy action scenes that are not up to par with more action oriented series. So if you like action - ala Chicago PD, you will not like this. This is not history, although it If deals with many historical issues, so if you are stickler for accuracy you will not like this series.

If you are interested in story that you need to think about, considering people's emotions and wondering what could happen next, then TMiHC is good for you. If you are interested in thinking about what if and how it might be plausable, then this is a story for you. If you are interested in the unspoken motivations and tensions with in characters, then this is for you.

The acting is solid, while there is no one single famous actor to anchor the production, the ensemble and the main driving characters are solid performances. Others may downgrade the quality of acting, particularly given that this is more internal, emotional acting than action acting. That sets a high bar, that the cast occasionally misses, but overall very solid

Overall recommended for people who are ok with stories that give you a lot to think about even if there is not a lot to see.

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive looking, thick, quality watch at an affordable price, December 2, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
A high style watch that is easy to mistake for one that is much much more expensive. This watch has many of the qualities associated with high style wristwatches. With an expressive multi-movement face, a high polished silver case and a thickness, it has all the qualities of the leading watches. It is hefty without requiring a counterweight to lift your wrist.

This watch looks to make a statement. It is designed to attract attention. The numerals and movements fit an expressive sense of style while retaining hints of classic appearances from the 1930's and 40's. I used to have a watch from my great uncle that looked rather similar.

The band is thick and long, something I was concerned about as I have thick wrists. Those who are used to smaller bands will need to consider the potential of getting a band replacement.

Overall recommended as an addition to a watch collection, particularly at this price point.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, well referenced and complete book, November 28, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The business of choice is a late in the publishing cycle of Marketing and Neuroscience. Books such as Think Fast, Think Slow, Why we Decide and the Dan Ariely books have covered much of this ground before. The Business of Choice does a good job bringing these and other more academic papers into focus, lending it well to a student of the subject rather than someone who wants a quick read in order to sound smart. This may not be the first book I would recommend, Arielly's work is much more accessible, but The Business of Choice provides depth and a marketing perspective that these other books lack.

Strengths

The Marketing perspective is one of the strengths of the book. Willcox discusses brain science from this perspective in a clear and almost clinical way. The results is a series of short chapters that help the non-marketing oriented person understand both marketing and the brain.

Completeness is another strength of this book. Willcox has researched and cross referenced the book well highlighting studies and providing paper references that few offer.

The chapters are short, clear and provide useful recaps at the end. This is a book that is easy to read, particularly if you focus on the first sentance of each paragraph and then read particular paragraphs of interest.

Challenges

The book is rather dry in its tone. It is more of an explanation than telling a story or advancing an argument. You will have to work at it in some parts to get the value of particular chapters, but its well worth it.

Overall, a solid addition to anyone who has been studying or interested in the connections between brain science, consumerism and marketing

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes a thin phone thicker and better protected, November 27, 2015
Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The best case if you are hard on your iPhone. The Atmos case is the best protection I have seen for an iPhone yet. Better than an otter case, the Atmos offers almost military level protection. The Atmos not only provides a cover around the phone, but additional screen protection that is second to none that I have found. Highly recommended if you are tough on your phone.

All of this protection comes at a cost. The Atmos case makes your phone more than a handful if you have smaller hands. In the case the phone is both thicker by almost a half an inch. The phone is a little bigger as well. The case does not add a lot of weight. The size and the weight do not lend themselves well to putting the phone in your pocket. Best if you keep your phone in a case, in the car or a jacket rather than a pants pocket.
