2.0 out of 5 stars Works, but not for hifi use., February 4, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
It works. It requires no drivers. It was really easy to get up and running, absolutely no headaches. The problem is, it's just too noisy. I want to stream music from my laptop into my stereo. The internal sound card was too noisy, so I bought this. Unfortunately this picks up the same hard drive and display noise through the usb that the internal sound card picks up. I'm going to have to get a usb sound card with spdif (optical) output, and a stand-alone DAC to make it work with a suitable noise floor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful album, but not 5.1 in any way., December 15, 2014
This review is from: In Concert (DVD)
I love Caro Emerald, and this is a great performance. It sounds lovely, and the video is great too. A couple of nitpicks though. It's a video DVD, not a DVDA, so you'll need to use the on-screen menu to navigate to audio options, and then play the disc. A little annoying if you just want to pop it in and play. The 5.1 mix is... pretty worthless. The rear channels are low volume and just muddy. There is no discrete audio, it's just a quad-stereo effect in the rear channels. Which is a shame, because they could have put instruments where they're supposed to be, or at the very least put the audience clapping in the rear channels.

That being said, the selection and quality of the DVD is exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect match for big Cerwin Vegas. Brings the music to life!, October 22, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So, I gave these a brief test today, on my main system. My main system isn't vintage, but it's rocking a pair of Cerwin Vega VS-150s, which are actually the perfect speaker for this test.

My amp in this setup is a Yaqin MC-100B tube amplifier, running Tung Sol KT-120 power tubes for a punchier bottom end. No tone controls. Source is a Phase Linear PL8000 linear tracking turntable (same as Pioneer L1000, but in silver), connected to a Yaqin MS-12B tube phono stage (mullard repro tubes). Hooked to that are my VS-150 Vegas, and I paralleled the new tweeters with the Vegas.

These tweeters are a VERY good match for these big Vegas. The tweeters are very efficient, which means they're very loud. They're almost a perfect match for the Vegas as-is, however. I might try a resistor or an L-pad to turn them down just a tad. Maybe 2db at most, but if you have less efficient speakers (Vegas are 102db) you'll definitely want an L-pad to adjust them down.

Now the sound... Vegas are not known for their clarity. The VS series had the best tweeters, but they're still not detailed. These tweeters fix that completely. Cymbals sound amazing, and the music was bouncing all over my room. I tested with one of my favorite recordings (the new Daft Punk album), and my ears were perking up with all the new stuff I was hearing -- or old stuff heard in a new way. The sound stage expanded enormously (again not a strong point of the Vegas).

The big difference is after i listened to one whole side of the album, I listened to it again, but this time without the tweeters. It sounded flat and lifeless in comparison, like I was missing half the music. THAT sold me on these tweeters. After one listen, I can't stand not having them paralleled to my Vegas. Even if they do need a bit of tweaking, it's really not much, and they're very livable as-is.

Only downside is I can hear a LOT more surface noise. Grumble. Time to buy a record cleaner.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor sound, doesn't work with nano 3g, avoid, July 9, 2014
Sounds okay for a cheap speaker dock. Does not charge the iPod off of the internal batteries. But the biggest slight is that it doesn't work with an iPod Nano 3G. Works fine with the iPod touch and iPhone 4S, but not with my trusty nano. The unit cannot be closed with an audio in cable connected, but it does close alright with the power cable plugged in. There's another problem: The audio input level can be too high from some devices, which causes the little woofers to go into over-extension. This means the woofers are physically hitting the end of their travel, and stopping due to physical limits of the speaker design. Which means every time the bass "thumps", you get a pop/thud that will eventually damage the speakers. (and sounds terrible)

As has been said, this unit isn't very loud either. Mine is the lovely (sarcasm) brown color too. But, being brown and ugly it doesn't exactly scream "steal me" either, so there aren't any worries leaving it out at the beach.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very, very long, connection not always solid, December 24, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are more than twice the length of the apple cable. They work okay, but my phone seems to charge slower, and frequently i have to unplug and plug it back in to get iTunes to recognize the phone. (iTunes will give me an error saying the phone needs to be formatted or something. Unplug and plug back in and it works)

Not sure what that's all about, but since it works most of the time I will continue to use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect in every way!, December 24, 2013

These straps are long enough to put the camera at your hip, even if you're over 6' tall. Fabric is nice, nothing special, but the length is perfect. Attachment is pretty standard. Highly recommended, especially for the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not great, December 24, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
They're very "farmer" styled, and unfortunately instead of being a nice fabric, they're stretchy elastic that will wear out. The clasps are great, but these would be a lot nicer if the suspenders were much thinner, and made out of a fabric that doesn't stretch. (I'm used to wearing silk braces). The clasps are amazing, they hold solid and work very well, but the rest of the suspenders are just cheap walmart quality -- and walmart style. Definitely not something you want to wear to your local swing dance.
