Mishka Shubaly' s life is never easy. His wayward journey's on the high seas, through the dim and dank bars and back rooms of New York and over and through rocky paths and babbling brooks of some gentle woods has allowed many to discover the next great young writer. Now we are front and center with his latest masterful read through the ups and downs of a beautiful/cataclysmic relationship as it veers out of control as only Mishka can describe. His dark and melodic prose captures the rising angst and submission to the most powerful drug of all-Love. Mishka has loved well. He loves adventure, the thrill of the high, the calmness of his recovery and the satisfaction of pushing his body to its extreme. However Mishka is ill prepared as we all are when this drug takes hold and starts messing with his mind. Are you Lonesome Tonight? continues the adventures of Mishka Shubaly and in many ways is his most disturbing and perilous adventure of them all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Did they go too far?, February 12, 2007
A very well written book as are all Michael Lewis books. However, I felt like taking a shower after reading the end. The book did not have a "happily ever after" feel to it. The Tuohys(especially Leigh Ann) were not going to see Michael fail and would not let anything get in their way including an injured 3 year old boy. The correspondance school with BYU and the "tutor" made me question how much Michael actually learned. There was so much ego involved and I was left wondering if Michael was so keen on starting a Center for children like him (with his money) to keep Leigh Ann busy and supported her threats of him tranferring. I wish Michael well but I note he was second string All SEC and I hope he is prepared for life and not just running a Taco Bell.

This review is from: The Road (Hardcover)
In The Road Cormac Mccarthy takes us to a desolate world where man has lost all bearings and only the strong will survive. Mr. McCarthy in succinct and telling prose examines the most complex of all relationships, the one between father and son, in a setting which will make your skin crawl. Man and son have only each other and their willingness to believe they are the good guys. As they strive for decency their morals are challenged and some outlooks becomes tilted. Their challenge is to keep a fire burning daily to not only survive each day but also to save their souls.
