I was pleased to be able to submit a chapter on "50 Shades of Leadership" (a spoof) to this wonderful book. But my favorite chapter is on Option A or B by Dafna Michaelson Jenet. Great story; great advice. I know every reader will find nuggets of wisdom in this rich compendium of useful insights and advice from leading experts. Just imagine who you can become. Then make that dream a reality.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem on Two Levels, November 12, 2015
JHK's book is terrific on two levels. First, it is a rich history of the creation and building of one of the most unique communities in the world: Vail. Not just a ski town, although that story of the founders from the 10th mountain division of the U.S. Army is fascinating, this is a wonderful set of insights into the commitment many leaders made over many years to create something special. Replete with funny stories and many photos, "The Vail Way" recounts the heroes and heroines engaged in this successful endeavor to build something remarkable and exceptional.
But going deeper, there is a universal message here that shows any town or community how to come together to create something unique that differentiates them from other communities. It takes vision, passion, commitment, collaboration, innovation, a spirit of service, and above all leadership. JHK develops a roadmap that others can successfully use.
He ends each chapter with dialogue questions and action steps that the reader can take to build their own unique community.
A gem on two levels.

5.0 out of 5 stars It Will Touch Your Heart, October 28, 2015

Great book. "The Heart Led Leader" lays out a compelling case for a force gathering great momentum: heart-led, values-based, principle-centered, souls-driven, servant leadership. The heart trumps the head. Spaulding writes clearly with common sense. He tells poignant, persuasive stories from his extensive speaking and leadership experience. I have read most all of the great leadership books over the decades, and "The Heart Led Leader" is one of the very best. It will touch your heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light Your Fire, October 19, 2015
Eric Chester’s fifth leadership book is his best yet. To set the world on fire with your business, you have to, not only put your employees first, even ahead of customers and those greedy shareholders, you have to have your employees light themselves on fire.
Eric’s research talking to front-line employees and CEO’s in the best-of-the-best companies, reveals the secret lighter fuel: 7 pillars for building an on-fire culture.
It goes beyond transactional compensation and a foosball game in the lobby with free popcorn. Way beyond:
• How to turn core values from jokes to jet fuel.
• How to create that electric atmosphere.
• How to help your employees grow lightning fast.
• How to get beyond stale old recognition to oxygen-rich acknowledgement.
• How to unleash internal rocket launchers.
• How to build long-burning trust.
Replete with revealing stories and anecdotes from the real world, Eric takes you beyond employee engagement. Regardless of your employee’s age group, gender, or even cultural background, Eric’s roadmap will ignite you, your leadership team, and even your entire company. I just wish I had this rocket fuel when I was a serial CEO.

A study by KRW International surveyed employees and CEOs in 84 companies about the character of their leadership teams and compared the results to their financial performance. High character CEOs and leadership teams, as judged by their employees, had an average return on assets (ROA) of 9.35%, while the mid-group ratings on character had an ROA of 4.83%, and the lowest character group averaged 1.93% ROA. The average ROA for the S&P 500 ranges from 2 – 3.25%.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner, October 14, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Bill George takes us even further than he has before in what it takes to be a good leader in the 21st century. Building off his previously successful books, "Authentic Leadership" and "True North," Bill goes deeper and farther leveraging insights from dozens of global leaders, each with a compelling story.
Bill redefines one's True North, showing the critical differences between leaders in the last century and now. Everyone has a life story, but successful leaders reflect on their stories and reframe them to learn and grow, especially from their crucible experiences. Bill provides a graphic compass for your True North journey composed of one's values and principles (north), sweet spot (east), support team (south), and integrated life (west) to arrive at one's center of self-awareness. It's a simple and powerful graphic.
One's self awareness derives from one's story, including sometimes losing your way and the crucibles encountered, and progressing through introspection and honest feedback to self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-actualization. Another powerful graphic.
Healing through vulnerability is a critical concept. If one is open and vulnerable to others, then how can others do something to you that you haven't already revealed? In such vulnerability, there is power. Power, not to dominate, but power to build relationships. Beautifully described.
All this is not soft, sappy stuff because organizations led this way are mission driven and values-centered. They engage people unleashing innovation and superior service which delights customers, grows revenue and profits, and enhances the shareholder value. It's not only the right thing to do, but it pays off financially. Again beautifully described.
Another winner from a master leader and thinker.

5.0 out of 5 stars Character Matters and Why, August 26, 2015
Children in poverty suffer adverse events that flood their emotions and traumatize them. But we can't easily fix the home environments of children in poverty. Even schools not in poverty zones suffer from local and national programs attempting to "fix" them through well-intentioned testing and core curricula. But a key element is missing from all these reforms: character. Character matters. Character is a complex blend of qualities like persistence, self-control, grit, will, work habits, study skills, resilience, integrity, and more. Good character qualities manifest in higher GPAs, which are a better predictor of college graduation rates than SAT scores. Both intelligence and character are malleable, they can be shaped and influenced. This important book shows why and how.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reinventing Schools, August 26, 2015
If you have ever despaired of the sorry state of American schools, then this inspiring book will give you a lift. Using the timeless principles that Stephen Covey researched and wrote about in "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People," the authors outline a step-by step process for engaging students, inspiring teachers, and enlisting families and communities to create great schools with students well prepared for the future. Combining academics, life skills, and school culture, "The Leader in Me" defines nine learnable practices FranklinCovey teaches to school administrators and leaders. Rich with anecdotal stories of their successes, this is a book every school administrator should read and put into practice. It gives me hope for the future of our children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing, July 22, 2015
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
For all of us “enlightened leaders” in today’s world, thinking about values-based-leadership, servant leadership, and empowering our teams, this book is a mind-blower. It cites chapter and verse from the real world of a few brave organizations that are doing the unthinkable: doing away with bosses, titles, job descriptions, budgets, performance reviews, and more. Impossible, you say. I thought so too, but now I see what might happen. Not everywhere, not quickly, not easily, but certainly possibly. There will be organizations that resist: religious institutions, governments, the military, Wall Street, and more. And certainly there will be blends of what we now have, Achievement-Orange, as the author calls them, with what he terms Evolutionary-Teal. Zappos is struggling with holacracy now (one form of what Laloux discusses), but I hope Tony Hsieh and his colleagues can pull it off. It will be a great lesson in truly moving from controlling, fear-based leadership to a more wholesome model. Good work here.
