Ds9#27 A Stitch In Time: Star Trek Deep Space Nine (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)
Ds9#27 A Stitch In Time: Star Trek Deep Space Nine (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing., August 2, 2013

I cannot begin to express my amazement that Andrew Robinson wrote this, and when he wrote this he did so, it seems, as an autobiography of the character that he had brought to life so magnificently. He IS Garak, and this is his story. I am amazed that for someone that at one point mistook hasperat for Cardassian, he weaved the existing stories and characters so beautifully into the epic tale. The first part at Bamarren turned out to be a solid foundation for the stories and characters that followed, including those that appeared in the show and in later novels. I also think giving the characters code names is brilliant, as it kept making you go 'whoa', so that's that guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down, August 2, 2013

I just couldn't put this book down. The greatest disappointment was that the book ended before the story did. The book just came and went. Unfortunately the sequel isn't available on Kindle, and when I got it, I also went through it very quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reads like the Star Trek equivalent of a Kurosawa epic, August 2, 2013

This novel, which weaves different characters and events from the existing DS9 episodes, continues Rugal's story beyond the sad ending that we saw in 'Cardassians' and turns him into the central figure in an epic story that reads like a movie by Akira Kurosawa or one of the longer works of Steven Spielberg. I read this and then Andrew Robinson's A Stitch in Time and found myself fascinated by Cardassian society, bringing new appreciation for how the writers had crafted this fictional culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a walk inside a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, December 12, 2012

Like the Enterprise handbook, this book gives you a tour inside a vessel that only exists in fiction. But unlike that first book, it is more detailed as it covers only one type of ship instead of five.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another epic story from David Mack., December 12, 2012

Silent Weapons is not only well written but also an emotionally driven story at times. It drives forward the Typhon Pact saga and is an important development in that saga even without the Typhon Pact brand in its title. Even though it is designed to be able to be read as a separate story, you must read the first part first to be able to understand what is going on, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book, November 14, 2012

This is surprisingly an awesome entry in the TNG novels (although given the author I shouldn't have been surprised). Although not a Typhon Pact novel, it furthers the Pact story well too. I was skeptical when I came across part 2, but ended up being engrossed in the first person narrative spanning years. I agree with some other reviewers, though; the ending is a bit of an anticlimax. But there are two more of the miniseries to go.

This book is of great scholarly value. It is accessible to the uninitiated but has much depth and insight into the subject.
