3.0 out of 5 stars How does it work?, November 7, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I just got this (used, from Amazon) and it paired with my iPad right away (my iPhone is still searching.) But I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the sound to come out through the headset. It's still coming through the iPad speakers. I can't find any useful instructions online. Nor can I find Audio controls on my iPad that would let me select what device to use for sound. The headset is paired and on with a green light, but no sound other than the beep telling me it's paired. Help?

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love DTWOF!!!, September 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This compilation tells the entire story of Dykes To Watch Out For! It is truly awesome. I used to only have a couple of the original DTWOF books, which I would periodically reread over & over. Now they're almost all of them collected into this single volume! Best, the paper glows under a blacklight!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Cute and Sweet and Original!, September 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chance (Amazon Instant Video)
This is a very sweet and quirky low-budget movie written & directed by (and starring) Amber Benson, fom Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A couple other Buffy alums show up in this movie as well. Although this is billed as a quirky story about a young woman trying to find Mr. Right, that makes it sound a lot more stupid and boring than it actually is. The characters in this movie are very cool and interesting. James Marsters is adorable. I'd say this is defnitely a chick fluck (a guy I watched it with found it boring) but it goes beyond the genre. I'd like to watch this again.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love my Otterbox case, September 5, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love my Otterbox case! This is the real thing at the best price. The purple/teal looks wonderful even though I hate teal! It really brings out the purple. This case is rugged and comfy in the hand. My only (teeny) complaint is that the back-facing camera is left unprotected (the front camera gets a sheet of plastic ove it.) It's protected in the sense that it's set-in, so the camera itself doesn't touch the floor if it's dropped. But it could get scratches. Still, overall this is the best protection for my iPhone 5. I'd buy this item again in a heartbeat. Accept no forgeries or substitutes!

5.0 out of 5 stars invaluable tool, March 12, 2014

This review is from: Bass Fretboard Addict (App)
this app may be a bit overpriced, but there is nothing else like it for learning the notes on the fretboard. i already had guitar FBA & loved that, so when i started playing bass i knew i had to get bass FBA. it has been incredibly helpful in teaching me the notes as well as ear training. i would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn the notes on the bass.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing for the price!, December 24, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
it should be noted that the first one of these i got did not work. but when i contacted the company they were really nice about sending me a replacement that does in fact work. so i have this great little recorder that does what it's supposed to! here's what i love about it:

1) stereo microphones.
2) mic jack
3) built-in speaker!
4) connects to computer to charge it and transfer recordings (.wav files)
5) it's tiny.
6) recording quality is pretty good!

i have not yet figured out how long the battery lasts or how long i can record in one sitting. but this was the only affordable recorder i could find that does .wav files & connects to a computer. i don't know how long this will continue to work for, but if it stops working i'll post an update. otherwise you can assume it's still working and doing what it's supposed to do.

----------

Update: I took it to a party and used it as a miniature boom box! The sound was great and I kept dancing to it. Everyone was intrigued. Then I pressed "record" and tucked it into my bra, to test the sound through several layers of clothing. It was amazingly clear. It picked up a room full of conversation. It also did a nice job of recording music!

On the down-side, something is off with the firmware. While the first device I got didn't work at all, this one worked fine when I first got it. But a few hours later it changed, and now it does work but it gives an error message and its function is slightly limited. After recording, pressing "stop" should make it say "saving..." and then the file should show up in a list. But instead, pressing "stop" makes it say "EMPTY DISK!" and no recordings show up in the list. So they cannot be played back. But they are actually there, and once connected to a computer they show up where they should be. So you can transfer them to your computer listen to them.

This app was a total waste of a dollar. You can only play four notes, and you can't change them or strum them or anything. It is nothing like "Real Guitar" which actually simulates an instrument. This app does nothing but disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars i love it!, October 17, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i have never been into superheroes, but i love everything by joss whedon. i LOVED the avengers, and i was so excited when i found out about this show. especially upon learning that jed whedon & maurissa tancharoen are the showrunners (they worked on dr. horrible and dollhouse)! i loved the pilot episode - it was exciting to see ron glass, cobie smulders, and j. august richards again. episode 2 was pretty weak and i feared for the show, but i thought episode 3 redeemed it.

this show is classic whedon - it's a mix of genres which will satisfy just about any mood i'm in. and because the dialogue is so good, i can watch the episodes over and over without getting bored, even though i know the plot. that's something i can only do with whedon shows and movies. also, like other whedon shows, it isn't perfect starting out and there's much room for improvement, which only makes me more excited about it because i know it will improve. all of whedon's shows (except for firefly, which was awesome from the beginning) get much better as they go along and find their footing. i am very happy that ABC has picked this up for an entire season, and i really hope we get at least a second season, because joss plans to become much more involved as soon as he's done with the next avengers movie. with his increased involvement, we are sure to get something amazing, so long as the show stays on the air.

i think it's too bad that some people give the show 1 star because of something that has nothing to do with the show, such as not being able to view it on amazon right away, or some other problem with delivery. i also think it's ridiculous to rate the show poorly because it doesn't have enough superheroes. "not all heroes are super"! other critiques i find more valid. we need some back story on fitzsimmons, because it's hard to relate to them in their insular geek world. i can see them becoming adored though. and the cast, overall, is very young and that strains believability. yes, and they're all unnaturally goegeous. but that's tv. i am willing to suspend disbelief regarding these young, gorgeous agents, because this is whedon! i am so happy that he's doing tv again (he had sworn off it) because anything he touches turns to gold.

if i were to add up all my criticisms of this show, i still wouldn't have enough to remove a single star. this is good tv! and most tv is pathetic. i think that j.j. abrams cannot hold a candle to joss whedon, and people will see that as time goes on.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesomely addictive, August 24, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Simpsons: Tapped Out (App)
i am loving this game. it's extremely addictive, but it doesn't suck hours out of your life because there's only so much you can do in one sitting. i tend to check in on this game many times per day, for about five minutes each time. [UPDATE: the more you play and the more your springfield grows, the more there is to do in the game, and the more time it consumes. if you're not playing at any given time, you're missing your chance to collect taxes and set jobs, so the more time you spend in the game, the faster it goes and the more fun it is. i am at the point now where i can't pull myself away except for necessities like feeding my cats.]

the bad thing about spending so much time in the game is that there are only 34 levels. after that, what am i supposed to do with my life??? i ask you. i planted "corn, actual corn" in cletus' farm and it takes 90 days to grow. i obviously wasn't thinking clearly because i'm going through about a level per day, and at this rate i'll finish the game long before my corn is ready. i hope that the developers will create more levels so i can keep playing.

besides consuming your entire life if you let it, the only problem with the game is that it's really, really expensive. you can get by without buying donuts, but the game itself doesn't ever give you enough to do anything with. you could save up for six levels and buy a "mystery box" which might give you a large hedge. so it is very hard not to spend real money. i have found that the most economical way of getting donuts is to buy a "golden scratch-r" for a dollar. you can win anywhere from 6 to 100 donuts that way, with the average being around 9. which is better than the donut store, where you get 6 donuts for a dollar.

i think it's awesome that so much creativity and work has gone into a game that doesn't involve shooting!!! and this game lets you be as creative as you want to be, though it can be hard to fully express your creativity without donuts (sigh.) it is an unapologetic expression of capitalism inside and out. EA is making HUGE profits on this and even in the game, it's all about profit and expansion. but it doesn't pretend not to be and it's all consistent with the show.

it's really fun to have your own springfield to design however you want (you can keep moving things around to your satisfaction as much as you want to) but it's also fun to make "friends" (i found all mine here in the reviews) and visit their springfields. you get to see in advance what buildings etc. you can get in the higher levels, and you get game $$ and XP for helping your friends collect taxes & so on. if you want to friend me, i am jennathepest and i visit all my friends daily.

if you don't have "friends", you can just visit the "other springfield", which is a springfield that stays a couple levels ahead of you and is an example of what you could build if you literally had all the money in the world. if you had unlimited real-world money (actually i'm not sure how much it would cost to buy absolutely everything in the game but it would be a LOT) you could buy all the donuts you wanted, and use donuts to buy game money as well as premium items. the "other springfield" has done this and has every single premium and non-premium item available, plus all the land. it makes me wish i had unlimited donuts, too.

the one weird & possibly annoying thing about this game is that when i'm not playing it, homer frequently calls out "better them than me!" and not only do i not know what that means, but also it sometimes wakes me in the night or startles my (real life) friends. [EDIT: the game developers must have heard our cries because they removed this annoyance! i can sleep again.]

overall i love this game for its creativity, its addictiveness and its amazing details (and top-notch graphics!!!) and how true to the show it is. all the characters have their real voices. i haven't enjoyed any other town-building games before this - i haven't found them interesting or compelling. i also have never spent so much money on a single game. i never thought i would, either. but i do get a lot of enjoyment out of it so... well i wish i didn't have to spend real money, but i don't really regret spending it because it's so much fun. i just wish i had more to spend or could resist spending what i have, one or the other. and now back to the game!
