Hard to ever fault Preston & Child fare. Well written...a bit far fetched but within tolerances...with nice setup for sequel. Can't wait!

Fast paced action thriller. Characters you enjoy. Totally believable? Of course not. Our franchise players have to live to see another book! Great read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and worth the $$, but not unique..., November 3, 2013

A decent read, but Faye Kellerman has done better. Just thought that the character development and plot could have used a bit more 'meat on the bones'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back to the Future-a unique construct, November 3, 2013

This review is from: The October List (Kindle Edition)
While the book structure (starts in the present and works into the past) is unique, it is also a bit confusing/disjointed to read. Eventually the reader catches on, but you have to store what you have read in order to process what you are now reading. I love Deaver, but thought that this novel was weak up to the ending when the Deaver that we all know and love burst forth with the plot twists and turns that came cascading suddenly on us...and yes, after reading the end I had to go back to the beginning to finally close the loop. The plot is classic Deaver; the presentation is something new...but read it knowing full well that you will be well satisfied at the end.

Ridley Pearson has yet to fail to deliver. The Risk Agent series is off to a great start and John Knox and Grace Chu are characters that we can enjoy. The setting this time is Amsterdam and the cause is child slavery. Fast paced and action packed with great character development. If you like adventure and suspense, Choke Point is a great read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still working..., July 15, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I replaced the whole power panel for my pool last year after it serving me well for over 20 years. Never a problem. Just to be on the safe side, I took out the timing mechanism over the winter and kept it inside the house. I also covered the power unit outside for the first time ever. Put the timing unit back in this year (easy in and out) and it lasted all of 4 weeks before breaking down. Ordered this new 'clock motor' and it is running fine...easy install with a fine point screwdriver. No idea why the other one went south on me. I did read online about ants getting into the electronics which is of course a major problem (ants that is) with outdoor panels...or outdoor anything else. Put two ant traps in the power panel and it seems to be ant free and still working fine. Gave it four stars due to easy install. You can find it cheaper locally, but you will run into an 'out of stock' problem 9 times out of 10. If it is still working next year, I'll bump it up another star!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Clear Road to Profits, May 11, 2013
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Although selected chapters are useful for beginners, the bulk of this book is best suited for intermediate level traders. If you invest the time to learn and make an effort to implement the strategies in this book in your actual trades, you will reap big profits in the short as well as the long run as I did.

To help make it easier for readers to implement the strategies, the author provides several examples on each setup with clear entry and exit signals. I found this to be useful in clarifying the concepts, where I was able to confirm the existence of a specific setup by comparing the stock I identify to one of the examples in the book.

I have this book to thank, specifically Chapter 12, for delivering a significant profit into my retirement account in the last year. In this chapter, the author introduces the RESHE system to identify stocks that are likely to produce monstrous moves over several months. Using this system, I found Eqix, Celg, Cog, Now, Armh, Fnp, and Cree among others while they are still in a basing pattern unrecognized by big money.

By programming ideas in the chapter on reverse price swings into an Excel Marco, I was able to easily use these strategies to exit stocks within five percent of the top. This is remarkable since only price bars with no technical indicators are used. The author does compare the results to using technical indicators showing amazing accuracy.

When swing trading, I often struggled with emotions and subjectivity affecting my trades. In Chapter 6 on signal price bars, the author provides a mechanical system with clear entry and exit signals as well as reverse signals (long to short and vice versa) that makes trades free of emotions and delivers continuous profits. My experience when swing trading stocks meeting the criteria in the book has been profits of no less than 25% from the time of starting to swing trade a stock until moving to another one. Knowing when to stop swing trading a stock and move on to the next is another excellent feature of this system.

This book is well written in a straight to the point style. Each concept is very clearly described with the reasons for using the specific indicators explained. This allows the trader to understand 'the why' as well as 'the how' behind each technique. Every idea is also supported with real market examples that demonstrate its effectiveness with very clear entry and exit signals.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overcome the premise; enjoy the book., May 2, 2013

Definitely a fast paced action novel. Enjoyable characters with the usual invincibility for the protagonists. The "Merge" is touted as the ultimate techno-tool for civilization...which of course proves false. The Merge is a tool that utilizes a Cloud based software called LayerCake which allows the user to improve hearing, vision, et cetera along with being able to 'see' if someone is evil or good, lying or telling the truth...you get the picture. Here's my primary problem with this novel: this requires the user to not only wear the device strapped to the body, but also to implant two electrodes in the skull so the brain is connnected to the Merge...and people do this in droves! I guess in these days of piercings and such this may well be not that far fetched; however...and that is a big HOWEVER, doesn't anyone think about the lack of a firewall to your own brain? The very first thought I had when they introduced the Merge in the story was that this gave (based on the techno storyline) possible external access to the users brain. This blatant weakness in the premise ruined the otherwise decent novel for me because I kept waiting for that proverbial shoe to drop...which it did and I doubt it surprised anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Firm believer in Elliott Waves, April 13, 2013
The author believes that the markets are fluid and constantly changing because they are centered on human emotions. For this reason, the use of a single technical indicator in trading is often subject to a more than fifty percent failure rate. The author postulates that human emotion alternates between fear and greed resulting in market prices alternating between an impulsive or buying phase where greed prevails and a corrective phase where fear dominates. These impulses manifest themselves in waves due to a herd mentality and are best described using the Elliott wave model.

In an uptrend, waves 1, 3 and 5 are impulse waves interrupted by corrective waves 2 and 4 which are smaller retraces of waves 1 and 3. In addition the corrective waves are subdivided into three smaller degree waves beginning with a five wave countertrend impulse (buy)followed by a retrace (sell) and another impulse (buy). This description shows how challenging counting waves accurately is likely to be for a beginner.

This book distinguishes itself by using a combination of technical indicators to show Elliott wave patterns more clearly. The use of oscillators in combination with Elliott waves can more clearly show the beginning and end of each wave. While this is still challenging, it makes the application of Elliott waves much easier as I've experienced in my own trading.

The book also touches on other topics including, Composite Index, Gann Studies, price projections, trend lines, and trading cycles in addition to Elliott waves and oscillators discussed above.

The usefulness of this book lies in its ability to help the trader navigate the complexity of the markets. As an example, trends are revealed by using multiple indicators allowing the trader to see where a trend continues and ends.

In summary, this is a book for the more advanced trader, and a beginner is likely to struggle to understand the content. It's required that a reader has a basic understanding of most indicators used. Aside from that consideration, the book does give new trading ideas, but it's up to the reader to make the effort to apply them.
