Decided to try the WSJ Kindle edition. Signed up for the free preview. With the free preview. the pop up to subscribe is always in the way, and blocks the content after just one day. Who ever decided that was a good idea must think that annoying prospective customers (subscribers) is a good business practice.

As it were, I currently receive the WSJ in the paper format - which I love.

The Kindle version, for what little I saw of it, is harder to navigate, and doesn't support the discovery of surprise articles in the same manner as the paper version. Those gems may be there in the Kindle version, but they aren't as easy to find.

I think I will stick with the paper version. The WSJ continues to be my favorite publication - every Saturday I look forward to Peggy Noonan setting me straight.

I will reserve my Kindle for the occasional movie or TV show rental. Outside of being a great video playing platform, it doesn't have much utility in the business world.

If you are a Federal Gov't worker, and you need a CAC reader for your own notebook, this is the device for you. Light, compact, and functional.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wonder how it ends, March 6, 2012

Never got to the end. Kindle Fire froze up-never to return.

Was entertaining to that point, though....

Maybe I should rent it from Netflics....

2.0 out of 5 stars Spotty Performance, Poor Support, March 6, 2012
Received this as a gift for Christmas. Out of the box, had to be updated, since it kept freezing. After two months of rare use, froze up, and demanded that it be restarted so that it could reload the original system-with a loss of everything uploaded to that point. However, it would never complete this action-it would go about 80% and then just freeze. Asked for customer support from Amazon, which took the shape of a boiler plate email with the same of the original advice, which did nothing to mitigate the problem.

However, since it was a gift, and it came from BestBuy, with a BestBuy exchange guarantee, we swapped it out.

Lets see if this one lasts more than two months.

Summary, while it worked, it was OK. But, $200 is a lot to spend on something that is going to last two months. Especially with the poor support.

My advice, save your money till you have enough for an iPad.

Amazon remains a great place to buy stuff; just don't buy anything that requires Amazon support if it goes bad. They don't care, and you can't make them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Acceptable, February 5, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Product delivered ahead of estimated delivery date. Product fully functional upon delivery. A bit soiled, but easily cleaned up. Screen has several surface scratches not revealed by vendor. Also, case cracked in one corner. More importantly, has flaw that prevents upgrade to 4gb of RAM. One slot will not accept anything over 512gb. So, maxed out at 2.5. A search on the web revealed that this fault is not uncommon, so not the fault of this vendor.

Perfectly useable machine however....
