5.0 out of 5 stars An emotional upheaval, April 28, 2015
This review is from: Carrie & Lowell (MP3 Music)
Carrie and Lowell. Is it Sufan Steven's rebirth or resurrection? Since Andrew Bird has decided to go country, I've been aching for a really heartfelt, rollercoaster of emotion. Carrie and Lowell, is an album for those middle aged and older and those who have grown old young. It echoes the thoughts which surround us as our definition of "family" shifts from those who raised us to those who we have helped raise or influenced. I've heard so many songs on this album resonate with others, for me "Drawn to blood" left me drained and reflected. I cannot decide if it represents hope or despair but either way, the song was able to pull emotions I'd thought I'd buried deeply to my consciousness. I've very grateful.

Carrie and Lowell leaves me in tears, of happiness and uncertainty. It's become a album, and definitely an album not a "hit single", that I know I'll be listening to a decade or two or three from now. It's as influential to me at this stage of life as the "White Album" and "The Modern Lovers" were in their own time. Carrie and Lowell needs no artist mentioned, it's seminal.

If you are in your 20s or maybe 30s Carrie and Lowell may not resonate as much as if you've passed that stage of life. For me it mixes regret with hope, passion with apathy, poetry and that which cannot be captured with words.

Please buy it, I really, really want Sufan Stevens to be have the means to carry on.

Again, another spamming vendor. Hey Aukey I DO NOT WANT TO BE PUT ON YOUR SPAM LISTS! So completely inconsiderate. So this thing kind of works but it's a real pain to get in and out of the socket.

4.0 out of 5 stars good sound, great picture, April 8, 2015

Works very well, good sound, great picture, easy mounting. Very light. It's not possible (that we have found) to rename the HDMI ports to reflect what's connected to them (they are just HDMI 1, 2, etc).

Very good unit- works without incident or configuration. Mic and camera are pretty good and the mount fits well over most monitors. Also, price is awesome for features. We have at about a 5% DOA rate.

Everyone loves the screen on this. It hooks up with Switch or google voice super easily and the sound is great- so clear you may not think you are connected at first. The wifi and bluetooth options also work exceptionally well. Overall- best phone I've used.

1.0 out of 5 stars This vendor will SPAM you., April 8, 2015

Firstly, the vendor (NEXCON) signs you up for a spam list. This is COMPLETELY jerk behaviour and I will never order from them again for anything. Secondly, the light on this thing is red and almost invisible until you hit the charge point, then it turns a blue which will drill holes through metal so don't have this thing anywhere you want to sleep or not be periodically blinded. Charging is OK but super slow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Went a year before self-destructing., September 29, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Well it lasted a year (almost to the day) before completely falling apart. Not ideal but better than most. The body just fell apart with the internal spring and bits and pieces flying all over the car and the driveway. Seriously, is a bit of hot glue or sonic welding too much to ask? Sigh....

5.0 out of 5 stars Miles better than any other tool I've used, June 8, 2014
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Just amazing- grease, dirt, bits and pieces of all the nonsense which accumulates under your nails are just gone. The small scoop on one end does this without digging into your nailbed or grabbing on along the edges of the nail. Haven't quite figured out what the other end is for but I assume it's just as well designed:)

If you work on cars or around the house on the weekends but don't want to go to work on Monday looking like a raggamuffin- get this. Just great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved their Last album and this is better- more voices, fantastic recording mix and quality,, April 3, 2014
This review is from: Dark Arc (Audio CD)
If you liked the Decemberists, there's a bit of them here. If you like the Avett brothers you'll find a bit of them as well. It you hate those groups don't worry, you will likely enjoy Dark Arc anyway.

Zac Little, the primary vocalist, seems to put down and axe before picking up a guitar on the way to the recording studio; they've got that look going on but they wear it well. The strings, mandolin, autoharp, and vocal combinations give their pop/folk a deep, distinctive but never onerous sound.

Their lyrics, this time, have taken a turn toward the psychedlic and the music is the better for it. The tracks are a wonderful mix of longer reflections, instrumental interludes, synth and bluegrass, progressive rock of varied texture, length, and complexity. Grace Chang's etherial voice (Check out "Fed up with Hunger"), fiddle plucking and bluegrass flavored bow work are a perfect complement to Zac's slightly nasal, perfectly controlled, and reflective sound.

They put the mandolin and guitar out front but make sure to mic it perfectly so the fingerings add feeling to the quiet passages (Check out "So Longer"). Don't worry though, even during the strident drum sections, the mix provides all the dynamics of a great live performance without your having to worry about getting beer on your new All Stars. They go from whisper quiet to thunderous without distoring or losing the individual musician's flourishes. It's a complex, layered, and wonderful cream stout.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but what's with all the bodies?, March 16, 2014
The camera does a great job in the early scenes of keeping the focus on the Dad's internal struggle. Meanwhile, the body of every female character is flaunted about without contributing anything to the plot along the way. If the camera had helped us see the Dad's perception of women and hinted as his motivation then the few scenes of him in therapy and the revelation at the end of the pilot would have made much better drama. If we identified with his desire, as personified by his inner perception of himself rather than just seeing his exterior manifestation, the ending would have been much more surprising and multi-layered and, on reflection, the reasons for his gathering the family together would have been more than obvious.

So, well done Mr. Tambor, hopefully you can drag the rest of the cast along (so we don't hate them so much) and please, put the focus on something other than tits and ass. I can't see people watching the show just for that. If you're going to insist on the objectification, have it mean something. There's a LOT, of POV from the Dad, to work with. It will be a service to the transgender community (male and female) as well as compelling drama.

Also, perhaps things will change, but there's NOTHING comedic here- other than an occasional awesome reflective line or sarky comment. It's a straight drama folks...
